Against Animal Testing Petition

We believe that animals should not suffer and die to test cosmetics or their ingredients. At LUSH, we have a strict no animal testing policy that has been the driving force behind our thirty year battle to end animal testing. On March 11th, the European Union officially became the world’s biggest cruelty-free beauty market by banning the sale of newly animal-tested cosmetic products and ingredients.

Unfortunately, we're falling far behind in the United States. Unlike in Europe, companies producing and selling cosmetics in the United States are still allowed to perform cruel and unnecessary tests on animals. At this very moment, there are thousands of animals trapped in laboratories across the country. They're being subjected to painful toxicity tests; substances forced down their throats, smeared on their skin or dripped into their eyes.

Did you know that all animal testing for cosmetics could stop tomorrow without affecting the safety of these products? At LUSH, we've invented hundreds of products without testing on animals for decades. Establishing the safety of new cosmetics can be done without any new animal testing by relying on the roughly 20,000 established cosmetic ingredients that have already been evaluated for their safety, and through the use of a growing number of proven, non-animal test methods.

The Food and Drug Administration does not require animal testing to demonstrate safety of cosmetics, so there’s no reason why the United Stated can’t follow the lead of Europe and Israel by becoming a fully cruelty-free cosmetics marketplace.
