This soap smells lovely and is quite simple in regards to other intense smelling Lush soaps. It is not my favorite as I prefer intense smells. The jasmine smells pretty though it does not linger on skin after a bath. It smells like a 17th century garden party and that is great when your in a mild mood. After the last sliver melted away last night in the shower I was bummed though my skin itched: seems to be a bit drying for me. Might buy again if the mild mood strikes;)

The first time I went to a Lush store I smelled this soap and fell in love, but I didn't buy it. I bought Sultana instead because it looked prettier lol. While I love Sultana, I regretted not buying Alkmaar, so the next time I went I bought it and I LOVE the scent. My only complaint is that the scent doesn't last on the skin. I'll be buying the silky underwear powder on my next purchase though since it smells the same. Please don't ever get rid of Alkmaar!

I simply love Alkmaar. While it may look plain on the outside, it is certainly not a boring effect once you begin to use it. It is a beautifully light scented and moisurizing soap which can be used all year round as the scent is quite seasonally neutral. I always like to have some of this around as it cleans well without being harsh on my sensitive skin. Not just for girls (with the jasmine and all) but the guys in my family grab for it every so often as well, therefore it is a staple soap in my books. Dear Lush, this is an amazing soap and I will be devastated if it is ever discontinued.

A lot of reviews mention how this soap looks so boring, and that's precisely one of the reasons I purchased it. I didn't want a lot of extra stuff added to my soap. It's so smooth and creamy, it leaves my skin silky after a shower. The other reason I bought it was because it's a floral scented soap. The scent is sooo gorgeous and sexy. I love honeysuckle and jasmine and this just captures them so nicely. I can also smell coconut, so to me it's got a little tropical feel. I love this for a shower or bath just before bed, it really soothes my skin and I feel very relaxed afterwards. My only complaint is that it does melt very fast. It's just so soft! I wish they would sell bigger slices. I'm not sure if they sell bigger ones in store? Anyway, if you love sweet white florals, give this a try. It's just lovely.

I received this as a sample with a recent perfume order. I noticed the bar itself felt a bit slimy and smelled bland, a bit funny. But I gave it a try anyway. My skin is wonderfully moisturized and I would definitely use it again. I don't think my soap needs to smell very strongly. I want it to work well. And this does.

There are a lot of more interesting looking soaps in bright colors, with stuff in them, and so on my first trip to Lush I almost didn't pick this one up. I'm so glad I did, though, because it's absolutely the most perfect scent I've ever smelled in my life. That's clearly subjective and not everyone will feel the same way, but for me, the smoky floral scent of this soap -- and the Silky Underwear powder and perfume -- are my absolute favorite scents ever, as it happens. I can't be without this soap. Please, never stop making it!

This soap may look very ordinary, but it is quite extraordinary! Silky, creamy lather, gorgeous scent, and leaves skin very soft. The first time I tried it, I was a bit turned off by the smoky vetiver scent, but it grew on me, and this is now one of my favorite LUSH soaps. This pairs nicely with Sympathy for the Skin body cream, with a light dusting of Silky Underwear powder on top. This soap really makes for a soothing shower experience at the end of a hectic day, and I will always have a bar of Alkmaar in my shower.

I received this soap as a sample and am I glad I did! It's not something I ever would have tried otherwise.

First off, the scent is mild and warm, with a bit of smokiness. I'm typically not drawn to smoky smells at all but this fragrance is never overwhelming and is wonderfully therapeutic and sensual.

The soap itself is possibly the gentlest, creamiest product I have ever used. It feels like satin, and leaves your skin feeling soft without leaving that residue-y feeling that softening products often do.

I have used this in the shower, but I've found an alternative use for it: after those long days at work, I'll cut off a piece (about 1/5 of a bar) and throw it in the tub and just let it dissolve while I soak away my worries. With just regular use, though, a bar doesn't last very long because of its consistency. Keep away from running water!

My only complaint? The scent doesn't stay on your skin at all. I second what another Lushie said in the comments below...Lush needs to release an Alkmaar scented perfume.

This is never the soap I would have thought to pick up at Lush, so I'm very happy my parents bought it for me as a Christmas gift because the smell is just GORGEOUS! Don't be fooled by how it looks like cheese! It has a really amazing floral-jasmine scent that is unlike pretty much any other soap I have used. I always find that I can't wait to use this one when I get in the shower, because of the lovely smell! It's very soft, too, and it lathers well - sometimes a little too well! The only problem is how slippery it is - it's often hard to get it to stay in place during a shower, it wants to slide all over the place!

One of the first Lush soaps I ever tried about 10 years ago, I always find myself with a slice every time I leave my local Lush store.

It dosn't look like much, but has a creamy, gentle lather and the smell is divine - jasmine can kind of smell crazy loud to me but here it is beautifully blended with the honeysuckle and vetivert, easily the prettiest, girliest scent Lush has! Only con is it seems to melt away too quickly

This was my very first purchase and I absolutely LOVED this soap. Smells wonderful, lathers well and lasts a long time. Leaves me feeling smooth and clean while smelling great. Will buy more for sure!

This soap has the most wonderful sensual smell in the entire world. It lathers perfectly, has a gentle effect, and leaves your skin smooth as silk. For good measure I keep a bar in my shower and next to my sink so that when I'm having a bad day, I just lather my troubles away!

I use this soap every time I shower. The lather is so rich and the fragrance is beautiful. Femine but not girly, floral yet clean, it's the most artful fragrance I own. It really does make me think of Grace Kelly! LUSH, please make a purfume inspired by this soap!

This is a lovely, creamy soap with a gorgeous lather. I thought it would smell stronger than it did. I picked it up at the shop. But what there is of fragrance is pleasant. However, I can smell the coconut oil and soap smell. So it was mild for me. Disappointed in the lack of fragrance at first, I still find this soap appealing.

Out of all the Lush soaps I've tried, I think that Alkmaar is my top favorite. I love Rock Star too but this one's sort of "all grown up", the scent isn't as overpowering but I sort of wish it could be because it's a sexy and mysterious scent that goes on so smooth and lathers beautifully. I had a sample then just had to get a full-size bar because I loved it so much! I also like that it's named after a city of cheeses! It may look a bit like a fancy white cheese, but it sure don't smell like it :)
