After shampooing, squeeze a small amount into your palm. Smooth through your hair, concentrating on the ends. Rinse out and voila, youre done!
Fresh strawberry conditioning cocktail
American Cream is our dreamy, medium-strength conditioner for soft, shiny, fragrant locks. Softening honey, scalp clarifying lavender and fresh oranges make a conditioner suitable for all hair types to soften rough ends and keep hair calm. Not to mention the absolutely delectable strawberry vanilla cream scent. Mark was inspired by a vision of 1950s US milk bars, where teenagers would meet and drink frothy, creamy milkshakes. He concocted our best-selling conditioner to soften and control, and evoke memories of poodle skirts and jukeboxes. No wonder it remains such a customer favorite year after year!
- Smells like teen spirit: Suitable for all hair types, just about anyone can enjoy soft hair scented with gorgeous strawberries and vanilla.
- Double your pleasure: Our medium-strength conditioner leaves your hair calmed, softer and transformed.
- Fresh is best: Strawberries are rich in vitamin C and have cleansing properties.

Q:Can I use this as an everyday conditioner? Even if I don't shampoo my hair every day.Asked on 1/24/2015 by Jake from Charleston, SC
A:Hi there! Thanks for your question!
Yes! You totally can!Answered on 1/26/2015 by Anonymous
A:I've used it as an everyday kind of conditioner. It wasn't heavy at all and
didn't seem to cause any kind of build-up.Answered on 1/24/2015 by Kitteh from Southeastern NC, US
A:I'm sure you could it's a light enough conditioner.Answered on 1/24/2015 by Anonymous
Q:Does this conditioner still use SLS, I saw that Lush was in the process of replacing SLS.Asked on 1/24/2015 by kitty
A:American Cream does have SLS in it. We list all of our ingredients for every product on the website so if there is a specific product you are wondering about you can definitely check out the ingredients list.Answered on 2/13/2015 by Anonymous
Q:My hair can get weighed if I don't blow-dry my hair. Would this product weigh it down if I shouldn't blow my hair dry? If it would, what would be a good, light alternative?Asked on 1/18/2015 by Alex from New York City, New York
A:It's possible it might weigh it down if you air dry your hair. I would suggest BIG solid conditioner! It's light weight and great for adding extra body to the hair.Answered on 3/21/2015 by Kels from LUSH Direct
A:I just used this conditioner for the first time a couple days ago, and I
loved it! It gave my hair a lot of body (I almost never blow dry my hair),
and it made it really shiny. It smells sooooo good too! I would recommend
I've also used Lush's veganese conditioner, and loved that one too. It
might be even lighter than American cream if you really want something
light. But I would say you could use either and be OK!Answered on 1/18/2015 by Anonymous
Q:How is lanolin vegetarian?Asked on 8/9/2014 by Anonymous
A:Lanolin is an animal byproduct, rather than an a product of the animal itself, therefore it is vegetarian, not vegan.Answered on 9/25/2014 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
A:Lanolin is a substance obtained from the wool of a sheep, which can be done without harming the animal. It is an animal byproduct like milk or honey, but is not killed for like gelatin or animal fats. In other words, it is vegetarian, but not vegan.Answered on 9/8/2014 by Melon from Dallas, TX
A:Lanolin is extracted from wool, which is considered an animal product, not part of the animal itself. It can (arguably) be "harvested" from an animal without hurting or killing the animal, like milk, eggs or honey (and unlike gelatin, meat, or rennet). In other words, it is vegetarian, but not vegan.Answered on 9/2/2014 by Melon from Dallas, TX
Q:Does anyone know if this product is safe to use on henna-dyed hair? I plan to use one of Lush's henna bars soon and would love to try this conditioner, but I have no idea if it strips color.Asked on 5/28/2014 by Adelaide
A:American Cream is a medium-strength conditioner, so it shouldn't be stripping your hair. Also, henna works as a varnish so it coats your hair and is pretty strong!Answered on 9/12/2014 by Anonymous
A:Ok, I don't know about henna but I have color treated hair that usually fades very easily but I have never had a problem with American Cream stripping my color. Hope this helps :)Answered on 6/10/2014 by BEE from Eugene, OR
Q:I currently have the squeaky green solid shampoo and I tried the rehab shampoo with the american cream but find I cant get the "amazing" smell everyone talks about. I dont want to give up american cream since I love it but does anyone recommend a certain shampoo to go with this conditioner to achieve that smell?Asked on 1/6/2014 by The Beginner from Houston, TX
A:There isn't really one shampoo that will create an "amazing" smell, because I think they all will! It's a matter of personal preference! I, personally love using our Seanik shampoo bar and then following with American Cream! The scent of the conditioner will always be more dominant however.Answered on 3/21/2014 by Kayla from LUSH DIRECT
I use BIG & LOVE the smell :)Answered on 1/7/2014 by Anonymous
A:I always get extremely puzzled when anyone mentions a shampoo or conditioner’s smell lasting for any length of time. I’ve never had that effect (at least that I’m aware, I’m not in the habit of sniffing my hair after a shower) so sadly I can’t offer a solution – I simply never expect a conditioner’s scent to stay. For reference I use Jumping Juniper solid shampoo, so that one may not work for you either. Incidentally, usually it’s best to use shampoos and conditioners based on your hair and scalp’s needs, so if your hair has particular needs keep them in mind when you decide to look into one product or another. I think keeping one’s hair in good condition is more important than keeping a scent in.Answered on 1/12/2014 by Anonymous
A:I’ve gotten great results when I use it with fair trade honey shampoo.
If I use heat after (I use a flat iron to style my hair) it brings out the smell even more.
Remember, you also become less sensitive to smells after your nose gets used to them, so its possible you don’t smell it as much as everyone around you.
Overall, this is a great conditioner. Don’t give up on it!Answered on 1/6/2014 by Anonymous
Q:I have very tangled hair....it's pretty bad! I really need a good conditioner and my friend recommended this to me. I thought I'd ask before trying. In your opinion, do you think this product will help my hair untangle easier?Asked on 11/25/2013 by Me
A:Hi there. I know that American Cream conditioner certainly helps me with my own hair. I wouldn’t say that mine gets “very” tangled, but when it’s at its longest I often get one or two very stubborn knots after coming out of the shower. This conditioner really cuts back on how often it happens, and helps my comb go through it more easily in general. So I’d say it would probably help you with your own hair. Hope this helped!Answered on 11/29/2013 by Anonymous
A:American Cream is a medium strengthen conditioner, suitable for every day use and great solution for tangled hair.It is made with softening honey water, moisturizing and protective lanolin and vanilla for its moisture retaining properties as well as the lovely scent. These superb ingredients will help untangle the most unruly hair and keep in a good shape.Answered on 11/27/2013 by Anonymous
A:YES! It's actually amazing. My hair is very fine and tangles like crazy.
American Cream has helped so much. You don't have to use as much as you
would with drugstore conditioners, which is a nice bonus.
Also, the scent is wonderful and stays with you all day. I recommend it
highly.Answered on 11/25/2013 by Anonymous
Q:I have fine and oily roots. I have recently (about 4 months ago) did an ombre hair and my ends are a bit dry (very different from my oily roots). Is this effective for my dry roots?Asked on 10/18/2013 by Luz from Arecibo, PR
A:This product is great for those with ombre hair or just dry ends. American Cream gives plenty of moisture without weighing your hair down. My suggestion if you have oily roots but dry ends is to use BIG shampoo and apply American Cream ONLY TO YOUR ENDS. do not distribute through all of your hair! The salt in BIG will help with the oil and also volumize your fine hair. The American ccream will keep ends hydrated but wont weigh down your volume.Answered on 1/16/2015 by Shebe from St. Louis, Mo
A:This might be effective for your dry roots. This product contains honey which might help soften your hair and the scalp clarifying lavender and fresh oranges make a conditioner suitable for all hair types to soften rough ends and keep hair calm.Answered on 11/21/2013 by Anonymous
A:Try a balancing shampoo/conditioner combo. This product could fix your dry ends but it wouldn't solve the oily roots. Find something with lavender, the Juniper Shampoo Bar would be a god choice. Don't over attack your hair with deep conditioning, your hair needs time and a little help to regulate it's sebum production.Answered on 10/23/2013 by Emileaf from Portland, ME
Q:Can I use the conditioner after the date written on the bottle " Use by"?
And what does it mean "best used fresh?"Asked on 7/27/2013 by Dentista
A:We don't recommend using any of our products after their "use by" dates, simply because they contain little or no preservatives, and are only preserved for the amount of time that we state. "Best used fresh" really just means exactly what it says- the products are best at their freshest. Because we use loads of fresh, natural ingredients, they perform at their best when they are fresh so we recommend purchasing new products rather than hanging on to older stock.Answered on 8/21/2013 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
Q:is it good for a dry hair and scalp ?Asked on 7/8/2013 by amy
A:American Cream is a great nourishing conditioner loaded with fresh strawberries and vanilla to keep hair soft and smooth! For a scalp product, I'd recommend checking out the Roots scalp treatment or Hair Doctor at your local LUSH store.Answered on 9/20/2013 by Megan from LUSH Direct
A:It is probably too light for dry hair. You'd have to pair it with a very moisturizing shampoo - try Blousey, Curly Wurly, or Trichomania. Retread is a more moisturizing conditioner, and Superbalm is good for a dry scalp.Answered on 7/8/2013 by Lex from Bellflower, CA
Q:Is there a conditioner that works the same but smells different than this??Asked on 2/10/2013 by Newby Lushie
A:In consistency, Coolaulin (online only) is very similar; however if you are only able to make it into a LUSH location, I would recommend using the Happy Happy Joy Joy, it is a bit lighter, but offers very similar results.Answered on 8/14/2013 by Anonymous
A:LUSH does not have one basic formula for their products and follow it except for different fragrance. They use essential oils, butters, and extracts that actually work for themselves as well as scenting the product. If you want a conditioner that is not too light or rich,I recommend Happy Happy Joy Joy.Answered on 5/4/2013 by Glitterella from The Great Northwest
Q:Is American cream color safe (synthetic color)?Asked on 12/2/2012 by melabration
A:I have used American Cream for several months and I dye my hair a vibrant red. I have never had an issue with American Cream stripping my color...and it smells awesome to boot!Answered on 8/21/2013 by Eternal from Chicago, IL
A:We test our haircare products on natural, untreated hair, so this is difficult for us to answer as we don't have first-hand results. This conditioner does contain citrus and honey, which are known to be naturally very clarifying, so American Cream might not be the best choice if you are concerned about color loss.Answered on 6/26/2013 by Anonymous
Q:Is it possible to leave lush conditioners in your hair all day? As a styling product maybe?Asked on 8/13/2012 by H c
A:We do not recommend leaving our conditioners on the hair for the full day, as we have styling products, as well as the leave in conditioner, R&B, that are formulated for full day use.Answered on 9/19/2012 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
Q:Is the lanolin in this coming from sheep fat? If not, where exactly?Asked on 7/13/2012 by Anonymiss
A:Lanolin is a soft, yellow, waxy substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of sheep. Its purpose is to waterproof and protect the wool. So, essentially, it's like sheep's skin oil (kind of like human's sebum- that mixture of oil and sweat that sits on the surface of our skin.) In the case of sheep, this sebum sits in their hair/wool. When the sheep needs a haircut, the wool is sheared, and the lanolin is taken from the wool.Answered on 8/28/2012 by Megan from LUSH Direct
