It took some trial and error to find the best a.m. cleanser for me, but this is the one. After trying Herbalism (a little too rough for me), I decided it would either be Angels or this one -- the sales associate at my local store sampled both on my hand and I was wowed by how clean yet velvety soft the Aqua Marina hand was (in fact, the Angels hand was a little chafed looking!). I told her if it could do the same for my face, I'd be satisfied -- it did and I am! I've been using it for a week now and my skin is clearing nicely, with no irritation. I follow it with Eau Roma toner and then apply a thin layer of Grease Lightning on my problem areas. After that has absorbed, I apply just a small amount of Imperialis moisturizer and marvel at my improving complexion. The thing I notice most is how SMOOTH my face feels when I rinse my cleanser off. The three-dimensional lumps and bumps of cystic and inflammatory acne are history. Try it; there IS hope!

I just really love the look of it being like raw fish! It's entirely why I bought it. I still have it, and it's been about a month, I spent like what, Maybe 15 bucks? It smells like the sea, and it reminds me of my all-time favorite movie, The Little Mermaid... in like a morbid, sushi kinda way. It left my skin SUPER clean, but dry. Definitely use a moisturizer. I can't say enough how the look of it is so novel and imaginative, I must admit, it was an impulse buy. I'd use this once in a while for a deep clean. The incredibly friendly, (and spunky) assciate showed me how to use it, which is to rip of a pea or two sized chunk, (there really is no measuring science involved) get it a little wet with warm water, it instantly turns it milky pink. (Idk why, but it looked appetizing. It doesn't taste like strawberry milk at all of course though, I've thoroughly tested this as it got into my mouth.) rub it into your pores and all over your face, especially around the nose, really work it in, it's like the most oily area. Then rinse very well with warm to cold water, pat dry, your done. My biggest complaint is I hate sink washing my face. It feels like water-boarding, and I am against it. and with the clay based soft soaps, you don't really have too much choice but to wash in the sink. I WISH *cough* hint *cough* they made Aqua Marina in a more of a solid bar soap, but still clay, of course with seaweed shreads around it making it still resemble a fish. If it was in a bar soap, It'd be shower accessible. And that'd be SO much easier. Btw, this is the first product that started my LUSH obssession, so obviously, it made a great impression on me. This one wasn't for me, but It easily could be for someone with a bit more oily skin.

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I was recommended Aqua Marina in the Seattle LUSH store by a really helpful SA. I explained that moving from humid southeast Texas to the much dryer climate of eastern Washington has made my hair fabulous and my skin horrible. I was looking for something gentle enough to use twice a day, that would feel clean, and would keep me from drying out so my moisturizer could actually work. Aqua Marina is wonderfully soothing (even though it DOES smell a little funky, but I don't hate the smell) and simply feels good after I wash and rinse. I use it in the morning and night (at nighttime, I use my Clarisonic Mia to really get my face clean, and I also picked Aqua Marina because it doesn't have any exfoliation bits, since the Clarisonic is an exfoliator), along with the Breath of Fresh Air Toner and the Skin Drink moisturizer. Used all together, I am one happy camper. I wouldn't say it's changed my life, and I do find that I need the combination of all three products to really get the clean, fresh, soft skin, so using Aqua Marina on its own doesn't feel as good as with other products (which is to be expected in the climate I live in). Overall, I would certainly purchase it again, even though I find it difficult to find the right consistency when I'm applying it, and sometimes it can take me a good five minutes to get it on my face!

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I use this every night before I go to bed. I find that I need a little more than the "pea-sized" recommendation, or else it doesn't cover my whole face. I was expecting it to smell like fish because of the seaweed, but it doesn't, the smell is very unique and smells quite badly while still in the pot. However, when you start mixing it, the smell almost completely goes away. I was also confused on how to mix it. The description says to work it into a paste, but it already is a paste in the pot, and after you put the water on it, it starts to become like a wet clay, I've been mixing it until it's almost a liquid because that's how I feel I get the best results. It doesn't dry out my skin, and only makes it a little bit oily about 16-20 hours after using it. When I wake up in the morning, I'm pleased to find that my skin is EXTREMELY soft and smooth. I have eczema between my chin and my lower lip that acts up every fall when it starts to get dry, it would even get to the point where it was inflamed and was cracked and disgusting, and since it was blatantly on my face, it was extremely noticeable. Nothing would work except expensive cream that expired in May. I bought this hoping that it would work, and it did. It is even softer than when I was using the ointment, and I haven't had a eczema outbreak yet this year because of this amazing product. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone of any skin type.

I feel like a mermaid!
Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I have tried everything from drugstore brands to expensive cosmetic counter facial cleansers, and nothing seemed worth buying again. I tried this on my hand at a Lush store, and I just kept saying, "WOW!" to the salesclerk.
My skin looks plump, fresh, and hydrated. It feels so soft and taut (not tight like with some harsher products). I don't even need to use a moisturizer. And it smells so, so good! (Some Lush products smell a little too "hippie" for me.) The seaweed lets me know I'm doing something really good for my skin.

Not right for my current needs

Cons
- Difficult to rinse off

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
This is the cleanser I should have been using in high school.
I used this twice. The first time I had too much seaweed and over-exfoliated a bit. the second time was much better, and the initial results were great. My skin was very calm and soothed. It felt soft and smooth to the touch as well. The problem began about an hour or so after I washed my face. What started out as a nice powdery finish started feeling too dry. When I tried adding my moisturizer something bizarre happened. It wouldn't allow the moisturizer to spread or soak in and felt like it was forming a paste or coating on my face. I ended up having to rewash my face with my old cleanser.
I think this would work better for someone with sensitive skin that's also oily or combination. I would have really appreciated the mattifying affect about 10 years ago.

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I bought this cleanser for the calming properties after having a fractional laser procedure on my face. It was not only gentle, but it didn't dry out my fragile skin and helped the healing and collagen regeneration process that procedure provides. I like the smell, it's unique, and it is fun to use in the shower. I end up slathering some on my face, getting it wet and then massaging it around. This may require more but it cleans deeper, is easier and more fun.
The "off-label" use for this product is to put it on your face, dry or with some spritz of Eau Roma or other toner, and then leave it on for 5-15 minutes as a deep cleaning mask. I like to do this when I have sunblock or other products on deeply and want them removed. I like to do this before I get in the tub and then use tub water to rinse it off afterwards.
The pricing is odd, it is cheaper per ounce to buy the smaller one but either way, it's a pretty good deal. I can get about 2 months out of the small one and I'm very liberal with the usage.

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
First, let me say that I have combination skin: very oily in the T-zone and very prone to dry- and redness, especially around the corners of my mouth/chin area. I have tried Neutrogena, Proactive, Noxema, Garnier...everything that one can find under the sun, and NOTHING helped improve my skin as much as Aqua Marina!! My skin is smooth, the irritation and redness from the dryness has been going down, pimples/blackheads/whiteheads have been MUCH easier to control, and the oil is calming down! Everyone has noticed a difference in my skin and I cannot be happier with the Lush products, and the employees who helped me figure out what would be best to use!

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I have very sensitive combination skin. I breakout from either too much oil or over dried skin. I have never known what to use on my skin, as something would cause a breakout. Not until I found Aqua Marina! I use it twice a day as a cleanser. It keeps my face in perfect balance. (I finish with Breath of Fresh Air and Gorgeous) It seems counter-intuitive, but if you have sensitive but acne prone skin, give it a try.
At night I use Greased Lightening after my toner. I apply it as a serum all over my face. It gives my blemish fighting an extra kick.
A few times a week I exfoliate with Angel's on Bare skin, though Aqua Marina keeps the skin clean, my acne seems more under control when I make sure dead skin cells don't pile up. It's very gentle, maybe even more gentle than Aqua Marina!

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I picked this product up at the recommendation of a SA because I have sensitive and combination skin and I tend to get red and irritated skin. This works amazing! It is a little hard to get used to using but just take a pea sized amount and add some water to make a paste and rub it into your damp face. I use a hot wash cloth to take it off. I use it in the morning with my Tea Tree Toner and vanishing cream and it feels amazing! At night I use Fresh Farmacy. I am a total Lush addict!

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
My skin is, in a word, moody. I have very sensitive combination skin. I'm 25, and I got tired of breaking out like I was 15.
I have never had a commercial acne face wash actually work. They all make my skin simultaneously dry and oily (yes, my skin is just that moody) and break out. Moisturizers of any kind simply made me oilier and break out more. I also do not have much luck with sensitive skin cleansers, as these often aren't strong enough to actually clean properly and do something about my acne.
So when I inherited some of this from a friend, I was a little skeptical, especially given the weird standing-at-the-shoreline smell. I mean, I tried pretty much everything, what's some seaweed gonna do, right?
Wrong. Even on first use, I could feel that my skin was soft and smooth and moisturized (even without a lotion!). The acne spots I had were decidedly less red. So I kept using it.
I've had this product for months now, and I still haven't run out of what my friend gave me. (A little goes a long way--I love it!) Now, the only time I break out is if I stop using Aquamarina for several days (in other words, I'm traveling and forgot to pack it). My skin is even in tone and I almost never need moisturizer (except in the winter--no cleanser is going to be able to stand up to Chicago winters without backup!).
It doesn't smell flowery or girly, which is a nice change of pace since I generally don't like these kinds of smells. Also, it's great for actual skin conditions. My husband has eczema and sometimes he likes to use it when his skin acts up--it calms down the red patches and moisturizes, making his face awesomely smooth.
So, to summarize, if you have moody acne-prone sensitive combination skin like I do, and you're tired of breaking out like a teenager, try this stuff.

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I have dermatitis on my face and suffer from itchy, red flair ups and this is the only facial cleanser that gently cleans and sooths my skin. This is an absolute must product for me and I've tried it all, from all natural to chemical and nothing has worked as good as this stuff. A little also goes a long way so I feel this item is economical as well. I've been using my product for almost a year now (crazy, right?) and it still kicks! And, despite what others say, I think this stuff smells lovely. You do get a whiff of sea but the cleanser itself smells like a light powder rose to me. This product does tend to leave a slight powdery film on my face but I like that. It's like a clay/calamine powder residue (?) but it's slight and it actually acts as a soothing barrier on my skin. If. You've got problem skin, give this a shot.

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I have normal combination skin, a bit of sensitivity along with a few minor break outs here and there and this face cleanser is perfect for me. I love the creamy texture of this and the seaweed is so easy to break up. I have noticed a great difference in my skin since using this. My redness has gone down, the overall tone is even, barely any pimples, and keeps my oily spots matte aswell! The only thing I do not like about this product is the packaging when you order it online. In the store it is pretty much just smushed about into a clear plastic container while when you order it, the cleanser is shaped for the black jar which means you have a small like cylinder of this face wash and since it's so small you get more seaweed than you would in store. A bit too much seaweed to be honest, I feel like there isn't enough of the cleanser itself. Also, it's kind of hard to get the cleanser since the seaweed is all around the whole thing. The only reason why I buy it online is because I prefer to have it in the black jar since it's much more easier to place with the rest of my face products as I can stack my moisturizer on top of it. I recently bought a jar from the UK and I love it so much more than the one from the Canada factory because it is sorta just cut off and smushed into the container making more facewash in the container and easier to pick out. Please LUSH, make Aqua Marina the way the Brits do!

I got this sample at a local Lush, and I had to order the product next day. I have used this product for a few days by now, and each time I feel excited to see how clean my skin looks and how it brightened my skin. When I first used it, I literally stood in front of the mirror and kept looking at my beautiful skin.
I have a very sensitive skin. Many of the commercial products make my skin turn red or itchy. Aqua Marina was not one of those!
I like to follow this cleanser with BB Seaweed to add extra moisture on my skin. It is clean, bright, and well hydrated.

I ordered some shampoo and conditioner from lush last week and got a little free sample of this cleanser and I was so happy because I had been wanting to try it for a long time. The smell isn't the best but it certainly isn't horrible. It's like a clean almost windex and seaweed kind of scent. I know that sounds weird but that's the only way that I can think to describe it. I have very dry and extremely sensitive skin and every cleanser I use makes my face extremely red and dry and I end up having to put a LOT of moisturizer on. I used this once and after my face felt completely clean and relaxed and there was NO redness and no need for a moisturizer!! I was amazed :) If you have dry sensitive skin then you have to try this out!

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I have always been complemented on how clear my skin is, but the only issue ive ever had with my skin is redness/splotchyness around my cheeks. I bought this to tone down the redness, which it did do an okay job of. But the main reason I use this product still today is because it is such a deep clean. I was expecting a milky, moisturizing product. But its pretty much the opposite. While applying it is milky and feels AMAZING but it is very drying. However, to done down the redness AND combat my dryness, I have been storing my moisturizer in the fridge and applying it cold after I use this facial cleanser. Its a perfect routine. If you wash your face in the bath though, beware of the residue this product leaves behind :)

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
Wow, I am in love with this cleanser! I was given a sample of this a few days ago when I popped into Lush to pick up a few staples and try some new things. I was a little skeptical if not surprised when the sales associate said that this would be a good fit for me- I have combination/oily skin and am blemish prone and Aqua Marina seemed more suited for someone with dry skin. I was told though that this cleanser is excellent for refining pores and balancing out the skin, so I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did and took her suggestion! I noticed a difference in my skin right after washing it and it's appearance throughout the day: my pores and texture definitely looked more refined and smooth, any blemishes I had were calmed/reduced, and oiliness was non-existent, an absolute miracle for someone like me that has to touch up my t-zone constantly. Needless to say, I went right back and purchased half-a-pound of this pink beauty. This is for sure going to be my morning cleansing staple, but I would totally use it at night too (I like to use Coalface in the evening), followed by a few spritzes of Eau Roma Water, a quick spray of Tea Tree Toner and Enzymion. Not ONCE since using this cleanser have I had to worry about oil or irritation, my acne is practically gone after 4 days of use, and my skin feels comfortable, normal and balanced. Thank you Lush!

Comments about LUSH Aqua Marina:
I started using perscription strength acne medication that dried my skin out terribly and made it painfully sensitive. I was washing with a dermatologist recommended fragrance free sensitive skin soap bar and even that made my face burn. I went to Lush just to try SOMETHING. I was desperate. The associate suggested the Aqua Marina and I'll admit, I was skeptical. When I got home I used it immediately and I was thrilled. For the first time, my face didn't burn and wasn't dried out. I was still worried that it would react to the meds and cause breakouts. But I've been using it twice a day for two weeks and my skin has never felt better! I absolutely love this product. It doesn't cause more breakouts and my skin looks good even before moisturizer.

Q:
How should this product be used on the skin? Should you take a bit of the pink stuff and a bit of the green algae to mix together?Asked on 10/5/2012 by Mrs. Yaz from Newark, New JerseyKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Yup, just take a piece of the pink and some of the green seaweed together, add a little bit of water to it in your hands to create a paste, and apply it to your dampened face. The seaweed has great exfoliating properties as well as other benefits so make sure to include it in the process! Apply in a circular motion to your face. Rinse it all off and pat your face dry. Then follow up with a suitable toner and moisturizer for the best results!Answered on 10/31/2012 by Anonymous
Q:
Do you use the seaweed when you create the paste? Or is it just, there?Asked on 6/28/2012 by Eliza loves LUSHKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
You can include a pinch of the seaweed when making your paste, but it won't mash up as easily as the inner parts of the cleansing roll. It helps infuse the roll with nutrients and moisture, though, which is why we include it (and, it gives the cleanser a bit of style!).Answered on 7/13/2012 by Laura from LUSH
Q:
Does this product need to be kept cold? How long does it keep?Asked on 12/27/2011 by ec from Philadelphia PAKnow the answer? Answer this question
9 answers
A:
No, this product doesn't need to be kept cold, only the face masks do! On the jar that this cleanser comes in will have a little sticker on it which has the person who made it, when it was made, and when you should use it by. Usually, this cleanser will expire in about 3-4 months.Answered on 6/5/2012 by michelle from new yorkA:
I don't keep this in the fridge, and in the LUSH store they always display it out in the open, so I think as long as you keep it in the sealed plastic container it comes in it should be fine.Answered on 6/3/2012 by dameliac from Easton, CTA:
I have never had to keep mine cold but I have heard of people that like too. It normally lasts for about three months.Answered on 6/2/2012 by April B from Bland,VAA:
No need to keep this cold! And it keeps for...awhile! (I had to go check my pot) but you will use it all up before you have to worry about it expiring.Answered on 5/30/2012 by fakexpearls from ColoradoA:
You don't have to keep it cold, though you can if you want too. Just don't leave it in the heat and keep the container closed, it should be fine in your room.Answered on 5/29/2012 by TigerLily613 from Small town, IllinoisA:
It does not need to be kept cold. Each product will have a best by date on it, for this product the shelf life of it is about 3 months.Answered on 3/21/2012 by TropicalPrincess from FloridaA:
There should be a date on the package indicating when it expires. If there is not, ask the associates at your shop when it expires. Usually they last about three months. I've heard of people keeping it cold, but if you buy just enough to use in a month or two, there is really no need. One of the best parts about LUSH is the freshness, I love knowing that just a few weeks ago that seaweed was in the ocean.Answered on 2/15/2012 by Ally Lush Lover from Austin, TXA:
it does not have to be kept cold. I don't know exactly how long it will keep but they usually put an expiration date on it when you get it.Answered on 2/25/2012 by hockeygirl from chicago
