Calming calamine wash

Do you remember putting calamine lotion on bug bites as a child? Aqua Marina was made with the same principle in mind; using the soothing pink extract to reduce redness and inflammation in sensitive skin. Those who have a tendency to react to citrus or strong herbal oils will find salvation in Aqua Marina’s gentle aloe vera and moisturizing nori seaweed. Especially cooling on sun burnt faces, Aqua Marina is perfect for normal to dry skin types. Your cleanser will remain fresh for up to three months. Always check the expiration date on your product.

Features

  • Find relief from dry, itchy skin: Aqua Marina is cooling and soothing on irritated or sensitive faces.
  • A giant ‘sushi’ roll! It may look like it was pulled from the ocean, but that's only because it's wrapped in Nori seaweed!
  • Under the sea: Nori seaweed is packed with vitamins and nutrients for soft skin.

It took some trial and error to find the best a.m. cleanser for me, but this is the one. After trying Herbalism (a little too rough for me), I decided it would either be Angels or this one -- the sales associate at my local store sampled both on my hand and I was wowed by how clean yet velvety soft the Aqua Marina hand was (in fact, the Angels hand was a little chafed looking!). I told her if it could do the same for my face, I'd be satisfied -- it did and I am! I've been using it for a week now and my skin is clearing nicely, with no irritation. I follow it with Eau Roma toner and then apply a thin layer of Grease Lightning on my problem areas. After that has absorbed, I apply just a small amount of Imperialis moisturizer and marvel at my improving complexion. The thing I notice most is how SMOOTH my face feels when I rinse my cleanser off. The three-dimensional lumps and bumps of cystic and inflammatory acne are history. Try it; there IS hope!

I just really love the look of it being like raw fish! It's entirely why I bought it. I still have it, and it's been about a month, I spent like what, Maybe 15 bucks? It smells like the sea, and it reminds me of my all-time favorite movie, The Little Mermaid... in like a morbid, sushi kinda way. It left my skin SUPER clean, but dry. Definitely use a moisturizer. I can't say enough how the look of it is so novel and imaginative, I must admit, it was an impulse buy. I'd use this once in a while for a deep clean. The incredibly friendly, (and spunky) assciate showed me how to use it, which is to rip of a pea or two sized chunk, (there really is no measuring science involved) get it a little wet with warm water, it instantly turns it milky pink. (Idk why, but it looked appetizing. It doesn't taste like strawberry milk at all of course though, I've thoroughly tested this as it got into my mouth.) rub it into your pores and all over your face, especially around the nose, really work it in, it's like the most oily area. Then rinse very well with warm to cold water, pat dry, your done. My biggest complaint is I hate sink washing my face. It feels like water-boarding, and I am against it. and with the clay based soft soaps, you don't really have too much choice but to wash in the sink. I WISH *cough* hint *cough* they made Aqua Marina in a more of a solid bar soap, but still clay, of course with seaweed shreads around it making it still resemble a fish. If it was in a bar soap, It'd be shower accessible. And that'd be SO much easier. Btw, this is the first product that started my LUSH obssession, so obviously, it made a great impression on me. This one wasn't for me, but It easily could be for someone with a bit more oily skin.

I love this product that I just purchased. I am fairly new to Lush but I am so excited to start investing in some great natural products. I love how clean my face feels after. I would definately pare with a toner and moistuizer to get the full benefits of the product and to really replenish your skin. I am hoping for good things with this one!

    Workaround for the Learning Curve

    Comments about Aqua Marina Cleanser:

My skin is sensitive to the point that I've stopped wearing makeup except for VERY special occasions (maximum of twice a year), and I don't generally wash my face except for in the shower, because EVERYTHING upsets it. Enter Aqua Marina, and I'm actually able to WASH MY FACE, twice a day like I've always been told I should. My acne is clearing up (I'm allergic to both benzoyl peroxide AND salicylic acid, and prescription creams just make the rosacea worse), my rosacea is starting to be under control, and my skin looks and feels better than it has since before I started puberty (in the early 1990s).

The only "downside" is that I had a tough time getting it to turn into a paste, as per the directions. I was almost ready to take the rest of it back to the store and ask for something else, but it had worked so well when I'd tried it in the store that I kept trying. Finally, in desperation, I dumped the slice into a small glass bowl, added about a tablespoon of filtered water, and commenced mashing with a fork. It took a bit of mashing and stirring, but I got it to about the consistency of Dreamwash, and I haven't had trouble since. I'm keeping a close eye on it for spoilage, but so far, it's been an amazing workaround.

Aqua Marina is my new favorite thing ever! It actually calmed my skin and brought the redness way down. It didn't irritate me, either.

It can be slightly difficult to use at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. It's not really moisturizing, so you'll probably want to follow up with a moisturizer.

      Comments about Aqua Marina Cleanser:

I use this product every night as a facial cleanser. I love this product because it keeps me acne free and keeps my face soft and moisturized. I have been using this product for about 6 months and it has worked great!!! My only reservation about this product is the white residue that can be left behind after rinsing my face with water. Other than that, this is the best acne fighter/facial cleanser I've ever had!!!

        SOS for my Evil Skin!

        Comments about Aqua Marina Cleanser:

My skin is, simply put, Evil. Like many of the others who have adored this product, I have combination skin that is also very breakout-prone and sensitive. I don't use this product daily, rather I use it when my skin is spiraling out of control and I need to stop the madness!

I do have some clay residue even after I rinse (maybe a toner would help if you don't like that?) but since I use it at night to soothe my broken out skin that's been hassled by makeup and stress all day, the clay residue is more of a plus than a minus for me. Like someone else had mentioned, it's kind of like a cleaner and a mask in one, because I can feel it working long after I wash. When I use my regular cleanser in the morning, my skin is soft and much, much calmer.

Suffice to say, today was the first time I ever made an "emergency" run to Lush, because I couldn't let my skin persist in its evil tantrum another day, and I knew that a dose of aqua marina would fix me right up!

        Comments about Aqua Marina Cleanser:

I got this product because I needed a cleanser that wouldn't dry my skin or make it break out. My skin is really sensitive and is oily around my nose and forehead and yet it still manages to be dry and flakey! One of the wonderful girls in the store showed me this product. It is really squishy and soft. When you wet it, it turns into a pretty milky pink soft paste and the seaweed kind of dissolves. It leaves my face feeling soft and it leaves it with a nice sort of tight feeling, like my pores got smaller! After that I use my Eau Roma Water toner and I'm good to go!

The only problem is the horrendous smell. It smells like bleach, salt, and fish. It made me tear up and my throat hurt by smelling it. I just washed my face with it and as I am writing this review I can STILL smell it on my face. Maybe it was just the batch I got but it's really rank! Otherwise, it's the best face wash I have ever used.

          Comments about Aqua Marina Cleanser:

This is the only face cleanser I have EVER used that hasn't dried my skin out completely! I have mild seborrheic dermatitis which makes the area around my nose & near my mouth dry, flaky, scaly, and very red, and overall my skin is dry and sensitive (and I'm prone to batches of cystic acne).

I've been using Aqua Marina for the past month or so, and it's calmed down my seborrheic dermatitis (no more scaling or flaking!), evened out my skin tone, and even helped with the cystic acne I get from time to time. I've even used cleansers specifically designed for seborrheic dermatitis and nothing comes close to Aqua Marina! It's an absolute pleasure to use and has worked wonders with my skin.

The smell is slightly odd--not bad, but not your typical perfumey cleanser smell. I use it with the Breath of Fresh Air toner and together they are a dream!

Oh, wow. This feels amazing on sore tender skin that is easily irritated and subsequently breaks out. It cleanses well and manages to exfoliate any flaky skin without being drying. The scent is soft and clean and soothing. I was worried the seaweed wrap would be unusable, but it softens and dissolves in when you rub it in water. This has become a must-have staple for me, because my skin can't handle even most "sensitive skin" products. A lot of cleansers boast a special ingredient (which is usually way down in the list of actual ingredients), but this is actually made out of them completely. Love love love love love.

So I don't usually leave reviews for things, but this stuff is too amazing to not review. When I first bought it, I was worried that I would hate it because it smells like FISH when it's still in the container. But I had tried angels on bare skin and dark angels, which were recommended by friends, and they didnt really work, so I went for aqua marina. THIS STUFF IS SO FREAKIN AMAZING. Once you put it on your face it only has a mild smell, which isnt bad. Actually now I love the smell because it reminds me of how good it feels to wash my face with this stuff. It's super soft on the skin and just feels really great. I have really sensitive skin, prone to dryness(I use skin drink moisturizer), and I am also acne prone. The skin on my face also gets red sometimes and itchy. But my skin isn't oily whatsoever. I recently broke out like crazy and have been trying to fight it for months. After two days of aqua marina, I have cleared up SO much. I am even getting comments on how clear my skin is getting. AFTER 2 DAYS! If you have skin on the dry side, sensitive skin, or acne, get this. My favorite thing to do now is wash my face, I used to dread it.

I can literally see an immediate difference if I DONT use it everyday. I'm not saying that after buying this you'll never get another zit as long as you live, but boy does it make a huge difference. I use it twice a day: right when I wake up and last thing as night to get all that makeup and icky stuff off. It really is life changing.

It smells fishy because of the seaweed and I was afraid my face would smell fishy from this after using it, but it doesn't! So don't be afraid. You don't need much of it to cleanse your face and it works so well. I feel like my face has gotten so much brighter and clearer since I began using this.

                            Comments about Aqua Marina Cleanser:

I have psoriasis and eczema on my face, which I've had since I was 15 (I'm now 25) and I have tried EVERYTHING to help control it. It's an annoying, embarrassing skin disorder that is incredibly hard to control if you do not have health insurance, like me.

After trying tons of creams, ointments, facial scrubs, etc., I decided to visit the Lush store in a mall by me to see if they had anything for my psoriasis/eczema. I was told by a super friendly girl working there to try the "Aqua Marina" facial cleanser. I was hesitant at first, because I have never put seaweed on my face in my life, but I decided to buy it.

I can not tell you enough how impressed I am with this product. It immediately stops the itching and tones down the redness associated with my skin disorders. I am able to use it on my face and not break out, and FINALLY control my psoriasis/eczema without having to get a prescription.

Using this has not only improved my skin, it also has improved my confidence which was lost when I was diagnosed with these skin disorders. I definitely recommend this cleanser to anyone who suffers from psoriasis/eczema. You'll be as happy as I am.

                            Comments about Aqua Marina Cleanser:

I just bought this recently, so we'll see if things change in a few weeks, but I certaintly hope not! This product was just what I needed, especially for these cold, dry winter months. I'm in my 20s and my skin is dry, sensitive, but still breaks out around my chin. I first tried herbalism. It was good, but too harsh for my dry skin. Aqua Marina is JUST what I needed. After the first night that I used it, my skin was so smooth and looked more even! No kidding, after the first use! Now, I use a separate makeup remover to take off my eye make-up, simply because I'm not sure how good this product would be with removing make up (especially eye make up). I suggest picking up Ultrabland--my other FAV product (I ran out and could only afford one purchase, so I skipped on UB to trie AM instead). After removing make up, use this product as normal. My skin is so pretty, less red, as so soft. Thanks, Lush!

I love this cleanser! Its great for sensitive skin so you can use it every day oh and did I say I love how it smells? I seriously just open it sometimes to smell it because the aroma is very calming and smells the your at the shore. It is a little messy and hard to work with but wetting it when its in your palms really helps. Oh and it makes your face extremely soft after you wash it off, honestly nothing else I ever used made my face feel like this.. and trust me I used A LOT of facial products!

Yup, just take a piece of the pink and some of the green seaweed together, add a little bit of water to it in your hands to create a paste, and apply it to your dampened face. The seaweed has great exfoliating properties as well as other benefits so make sure to include it in the process! Apply in a circular motion to your face. Rinse it all off and pat your face dry. Then follow up with a suitable toner and moisturizer for the best results!

You can include a pinch of the seaweed when making your paste, but it won't mash up as easily as the inner parts of the cleansing roll. It helps infuse the roll with nutrients and moisture, though, which is why we include it (and, it gives the cleanser a bit of style!).

This product keeps for approximately 3 months. There will be a sticker on the black pot that has the exact expiry date.

There should be a date on the package indicating when it expires. If there is not, ask the associates at your shop when it expires. Usually they last about three months. I've heard of people keeping it cold, but if you buy just enough to use in a month or two, there is really no need. One of the best parts about LUSH is the freshness, I love knowing that just a few weeks ago that seaweed was in the ocean.

You don't have to keep it cold, though you can if you want too. Just don't leave it in the heat and keep the container closed, it should be fine in your room.

I don't keep this in the fridge, and in the LUSH store they always display it out in the open, so I think as long as you keep it in the sealed plastic container it comes in it should be fine.

No, this product doesn't need to be kept cold, only the face masks do! On the jar that this cleanser comes in will have a little sticker on it which has the person who made it, when it was made, and when you should use it by. Usually, this cleanser will expire in about 3-4 months.
