Body-building shampoo for BIG hair and loads of shine
Over half the base of Big shampoo is made with sea salt, giving massive volume to hair in need of a boost. Sea salt is also full of minerals and de-greases hair, removing dead skin cells and dirt without stripping natural oils for a fresh, squeaky clean feeling. We balance the sea salt with seaweed infusion, extra virgin coconut oil and avocado butter for soft, nourished locks. Finally, fresh citrus juices are squeezed in for incredible shine. It's no wonder this one is a best-seller!
- Size matters: Suitable for all hair types, but especially for limp locks. Once you go BIG you never go back.
- Shine on: Fresh lime juice delivers instant shine and leaves your hair feeling extra clean.
- One of your five a day: Full of vitamins, minerals and trace elements, Tooth Wracked Seaweed strengthens damaged hair.

Q:Is this product safe to use on coloured hair? I just dyed my hair a few days ago and I'm curious to know if the ingredients in this will fade my colour quickly?Asked on 12/19/2014 by Jacllynn from Toronto, Ontario
A:I would recommending our "Blousey' shampoo instead-it was purposely created to be a gentle, non-stripping shampoo specifically for bleached and processed hair!Answered on 12/30/2014 by Elizabeth from LUSH Direct
A:I have used this product for a couple of years and have permed and frosted
hair. I use the product when I need a little extra "fluff" to my
otherwise, baby fine hair. Since I do not use this product daily, I can
not honestly know the daily effects of using this produce on colored hair.
Having used the product for a couple of days, I use a moisturizing shampoo
for a couple of days. I notice my hair is "bright and shiny" when I use
BIG, with no ill effect to my frosted sections. Hope this information is
helpful.Answered on 12/19/2014 by Anonymous
Q:I tried a sample of BIG Shampoo and loved it however I see that it is not recommended for color treated hair. Is it ok to use as a clarifying shampoo (once a month) on color treated hair? What other LUSH Shampoo would give similar results but safe for color treated hair?Asked on 11/4/2014 by CATLADY from Wisconsin
A:Generally, you'd want to avoid products that contain salt and citrus after you colour your hair. A clarifying shampoo will most likely strip the colour. The only shampoo that we tested on coloured hair is Blousey. It is our most gentle shampoo that will nourish your hair.Answered on 11/6/2014 by Jeanine from LUSH Direct
A:I wouldn't use the BIG shampoo on color treated hair because of the sea
salt in it. If you have lighter hair, I think it'd be fine. But if your
hair is dyed darker or red, I'd use a different volumizing shampooAnswered on 11/4/2014 by Anonymous
A:BIG is great to use once or twice a month on color treated hair as a clarifier - I've never had a problem and it takes out all the hair spray etc. Because my hair color is blonde I also use Daddy-O as my regular shampoo.Answered on 11/4/2014 by Anonymous
Q:Is this safe for color treated hair?Asked on 10/21/2014 by krissy from Buffalo, ny
A:I wouldn't recommend using this one in particular, because of the sea salt that's in it because sea salt tends to over-clarify and strip hair of it's dye.Answered on 11/14/2014 by Anonymous
A:It is absolutely safe.......AND your going to LOVE it!
The smell is absolutely amazing and you only need to use a very little to create a head full of healthy "suds!"
This is a newer producer for me but is now on my definitely "MUST HAVE" list!Answered on 10/22/2014 by Anonymous
A:I have frosted hair and use Big and Marilyn without issue!Answered on 10/21/2014 by Anonymous
Q:I have used this shampoo twice, but have not gotten *any* extra volume. My hair, in fact, is more limp than usual. The first time I used Big, I did not use conditioner & I had a little more oomph (but not much, and what little I did have deflated by noon). The second time, I followed up with Big Conditioner and my hair is more limp than it is when I use other products.
Am I doing something wrong? Have others had this experience?
I love the scent of Big - but want the volume & texture others rave about!!Asked on 10/12/2014 by Heather from United States
A:You might be using it too often and your hair just needs to get used to it. And every person's hair is different so it might clash with your natural oils in your hair and the products you're using!Answered on 10/14/2014 by Anonymous
Q:I am using Big shampoo. & I was thinking if i can use both big shampoo and dr. peppermint solid shampoo bar?Asked on 7/15/2014 by Francini
A:Absolutely! There is no harm in alternating between the two.Answered on 9/25/2014 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
Q:i have really bad damaged hair and im starting to use treatments but i was just wondering if i could still use BIG shampoo even tho it contains alot of sea salt because my hair is very dryAsked on 7/5/2014 by Sara from Dubai
A:No, you shouldn't continue to use Big due to it's high salt content and citrus. It will more than likely strip your hair and make it drier.Answered on 9/25/2014 by Anonymous
A:I don't think I would use this if you are repairing your hair. It is somewhat drying. It was fine for me because my hair is very fine with an oily scalp.Answered on 7/5/2014 by Anonymous
A:I have fine, thick, oily hair that tangles very easily.
In my opinion, Big is not very good for very dry hair unless you make sure to use a LOT of conditioner -- however, using a lot of conditioner can tend to counteract the volume and texture that Big provides.
I love Big although it definitely seems to dry out and tangle my hair which I usually don't mind too much (as I am in love with the texture it gives regardless) but if your hair is already really damaged I would seek out an alternative as it could result in breakage.
I would recommend using a shampoo like Blousey which will repair your hair, and if you want the added affects of volume and texture, use Lush's Sea Spray on your damp hair. The Sea Spray pretty much achieves the same results (maybe a little less dramatic than Big) but will definitely be less damaging to your hair than Big.
Hope this helped!Answered on 7/5/2014 by Anonymous
Q:My hair is fine, oily, and curly / wavy. I have noticed that Big Shampoo has volumized my curls, and helps with oily scalp. Because of that I love the product, but I have been hesitant in using it since every time there is a bit of humidity it has made my hair really poofy. It never used to poof out, but now it does only when I use this shampoo--so i get the big volume, but not as I'd prefer. I have straightened and hair sprayed to help with a bit of gloss to tame it, but doesn't do the trick.
Suggestions????Asked on 9/18/2013 by Want volume not poof from New York
A:It sounds like Big is working out well for your scalp, but not quite as well for the rest of your hair. In this case, it's probably best to just use big at the scalp level, and if you're not using a conditioner, it's a good idea to add one into the mix!Answered on 9/20/2013 by Brandy from LUSH
A:When I hear frizz I instantly think about conditioner! While changing shampoo has helped in clearing the oils you may want to change to a stronger conditioner. I also have fine hair and I use American cream conditioner. If a conditioner change doesn't help I would also recommend using R&B leave in conditioner. It smells amazing, provides beautiful shine, and tames those frizzies! My only suggestion with R&B is to use it sparingly, too much on fine hair can make it look oily... I find it best used when worked into damp hair after showering. Regular shower conditioner should still be used even when using this product, never remove a regular conditioner from your hairs diet.

A:I have the same type of hair and live in New Orleans, where humidity lives. I use big shampoo for the reasons you mentioned. I use Happy Happy Joy Joy conditioner with it. I think the key is to make sure you add the moisture back in after you shampoo and then apply a good serum on cleaned conditioned hair.

Q:Does the product's smell change from batch to batch?Asked on 8/22/2013 by Angela from Canada
A:All of LUSH's products are handmade in small batches. Due to this uniqueness, there can be small variances in things like colour or texture depending on the ingredients from our suppliers, but overall, the recipes and formulas are the same! If you have concerns about a product, you are always welcome to take it back to the shop, or to give our Customer Care team a call!Answered on 9/25/2013 by Anonymous
A:Nope, Big is very consistent.Answered on 8/23/2013 by Anonymous
Q:my hair got extremely tangled in the first use, is that normal ?Asked on 7/17/2013 by first timer from san diego ca
A:You may want to follow up with a light conditioner after using BIG, which should help with any tangles. Veganese is a great choice, as it won't add weight or oil to the hair, but will help keep it tangle-free!Answered on 10/4/2013 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
A:Mine did as well, but it untangled itself as I slept (I shower at night). Big makes hair so soft that untangling wasn't a problem for me! Obviously, different people, different hair, different results, but I'd recommend you just be patient! Give your hair some time to dry and sort itself out a little before trying to untangle it. Hope this helps!Answered on 7/29/2013 by Ingrid from Boston, MA
Q:Can i use Big everyday?Asked on 6/15/2013 by lina
A:Big is a great deep cleansing shampoo made with the sea salt to create volume and give your hair shine with removing any buildup from the hair. I would recommend to use the big 2-3 times a week and in between chose one of our other shampoos for example the Karma Komba solid shampoo or the Fair trade Honey shampoo!Answered on 10/2/2013 by Anonymous
Q:When is the expiration date, how long is its shelf life?Asked on 5/31/2013 by Maybella
A:Each product has an expiration date sticker on the package to let you know when you should use it by! Since we make frequent batches, the expiry dates will vary from jar to jar. Big shampoo has a shelf life of 14 months and is best used by the date on the expiry sticker!Answered on 9/24/2013 by Anonymous
Q:Hi, I've been using Big Shampoo and Conditioner for a few weeks now and I love it. But, I have been told by a few people that my hair is slowly changing color from a natural dark brown to lightly blonde starting from the end tips of my hair and moving up. Its been almost a year since I colored my hair with no touch ups so that shouldn't have any affect right? I just really need to know if this is because of the shampoo/conditioner and if the change is permanent. What other combo can I try?Asked on 4/18/2013 by TexasLushLover from San Antonio, Tx
A:My stylist told me when we had hard water that the build up on my hair was making the dye take differently. It may just be that the product is stripping off the build up on your hair.Answered on 8/9/2014 by Lynds from PA
A:Because of the citrus and salt content in the Big Shampoo and conditioner, we do not usually recommend it for color treated hair simply because it does tend to be a little bit stripping on color over time. We do have a number of shampoos and conditioners that are gentler on color treated hair such as Blousey, and Jungle.Answered on 8/21/2013 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
A:Citrus, specifically lemon or lime, has been used for naturally lightening hair for a really long time. If you get quite a bit of sun it's likely that the citrus is acting as a catalyst to slowly bleach your hair colour. It won't ever completely bleach your hair out and it's perfectly natural.Answered on 7/13/2013 by Brnn from Brandon, FL
Q:what does it smell like?Asked on 3/30/2013 by Maybelle
A:Big can be a little hard to describe, because it has a lot to it! I find that it has a really crisp and clean scent, (as some of the other reviews have mentioned) definitely with elements of lemon and seawater. It is a one-of-a-kind scent that pairs very well with most conditioners so hopefully you get a chance to try it out!Answered on 9/21/2013 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
A:I know this sounds weird, but everytime I use it, my husband says my hair smells like apples....
But when I use it, I smell a clean beachy smell!Answered on 9/20/2013 by SusHilliard from Pittsburgh, PA
A:A clean, crisp scent. In my opinion, it smells like those "fresh laundary" or "crisp cotton" (in a GREAT way) smells in air fresheners & etc. with a hint of the sea, saltyness, beach, and a wee-bit fishy. I only smell fish in the jar but not in my hair! The scent lingers A LOT, so If you like it YAY! I paired this with American Cream today, and May I say my hair smells AMAZING! Try a sample(:Answered on 6/27/2013 by Carley from CA
Q:Can this be used as a daily shampoo? The sea salt in it leads me to believe it'd be too harsh to use daily.Asked on 1/1/2013 by Anonymous
A:I wouldn't, I think it would be too harsh everyday, I would use it about 1-2 times per week. I found it to be a little too abrasive on my hair personally.Answered on 11/12/2014 by Rachel from Minnesota
A:The frequency in which you use this shampoo entirely depends on your hair type. Those with thinner hair that is quite oily could definitely use Big daily, but if you find that you dont need the extra oil-absorbing ingredients you may benefit from only using it every other time you shampoo. It is definitely best to experiment to see what works best for you!Answered on 3/7/2013 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
Q:if i use BIG what conditioner could i use my hair is curlyAsked on 9/27/2012 by gigi07 from virginia
A:Generally speaking, Coolaulin is a great choice for curly hair due to all of the nourishing fresh organic coconut decoction it contains! That said, everyone's hair is different, and your specific needs may call for something else. Q:I tried this shampoo and so far I think I really like it.What kind of conditioner should i use? I can't use none because this makes it hard to brush my hair after using itAsked on 2/7/2012 by Jade from South Windsor, CT
A:Definitely try Happy Happy Joy Joy. It left my hair very silky, more than I've ever experienced with any other conditioner. I was surprised at the silky condition it left my hair in because right after the shower and during the process of brushing my hair, my thought was that it was terrible because my hair was tangled completely but once it was brushed out my hair was shiny, silky, and soft the entire day. It's really great with this shampoo.Answered on 1/26/2013 by Newly Initiated LUSHie from CA

A:I have found American Cream to work well in conjunction with Big.Answered on 2/16/2012 by missie megs from Oregon
A:I would suggest using Veganese to follow up, as it is our lightest conditioner that will compliment Big very nicely. It will condition the hair without adding weight, and contains the scalp soothing effects of lavender and rosemary.Answered on 8/30/2012 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
