I was in Lush and was repurchasing some items that I never go without and was looking at the hair section. One of the lovely ladies working there asked if needed help. I told her that I had just gotten my hair colored (literally just came from the salon in the mall) and said that I was looking for something to keep my red from fading so fast. She asked if I had tried the newest one called Blousey. I admitted I hadn't and she let me smell the sample tub and touted its wonders. I was a little skeptical because of the price. She sensed my hesitation, but believed in it and offered me a sample to take home. I agreed and purchased the rest of my items.

About two weeks went by and I was using a shampoo for color-treated hair and my red color was again fading. I then remembered the sample and went to my Lush bag, which I had tucked in the closet while hurriedly trying to clean. I pulled out the sample and gave it a try. Wow! My hair was so soft when I got out of the shower. I didn't even need a conditioner. The smell is strong, but I happen to like it. I can say that it doesn't smell like bananas, which I'm glad, because I don't like that smell. It is kind of an herbal earthy scent. Throughout the day I felt my hair and saw how shiny it was. I was hooked. I went back in the next time I had my hair done and picked up a tub of Blousey and raved about it to the ladies there.

When I first started using it, I would notice that it would lather sometimes but not others and I couldn't figure out why. Then I got it. Here is how to get Blousey to lather. First I wet my hair (it works with both cool and warm water) and get out a small amount (maybe a little bit more than a teaspoon). I have greasy roots and dry ends, so I put a little bit on the fingertips of both hands and use one to apply to the top of my bangs (fringe) and the other at the crown. I then massage it in for about 15-20 seconds. I add a little bit more water by tipping my head in and out of the shower quickly and massage again. Then repeat with a little bit more water. It is then that I start to get the lather. It also seems to bring out the smell more, which I love. Once I get the lather, I spread it down into the rest of my hair. Sometimes I let it sit while I finish up the rest of my shower or sometimes I rinse. Voila! That's how you get Blousey to lather.

My one minor complaint is the tub. It is messy to use at times, but so well worth it. So just remember to keep adding a little bit of water while massaging and you'll get lather. Thank you Lush for making this fabulous shampoo!

The salesperson pointed out that this creamy shampoo can be difficult to distribute evenly on thick hair, and she was right! Even following her tips and adding extra water halfway through, I had to use too much product to get all of my hair clean. I love how shiny and soft my color-treated hair is afterward, but I couldn't stand the smell. More so, the water rinsing from my hair gets in my mouth and it tastes horrible and makes my lips and tongue a bit numb! Very weird and unpleasant. I think I'll switch to the henna for my hair color, and then go back to the Big shampoo, which is phenomenal.

Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

I'm not sure why they would put the word louse into any shampoo's name...it puts a bad picture into my head every time I go to use it. Regardless of this minor problem I agreed to try this instead of my normal cynthia sylvia stout that I love at the suggestion of the Lush employee who is always very nice to me. It smells way too strong for me so I'll probably switch back to cynthia or my other favorite curly wurly. I do have to say that it works though! It makes my curls pretty and controls dandruff. It is a little hard to lather up but if you work at it, it is manageable.

I like this shampoo, if it didn't smell so strongly flowery I'd love it! Still a good buy!

Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

I bought a small pot of Blousey and went through it like crazy, I realize that A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY!! I bought the large pot again and after 2 weeks I'm only 1/4 through it! I just take my pointer & middle finger to get a small scoop out, apply at hairline and roots, the rest everywhere else, work through my hair (it doesn't lather much), add a little water, and work through more, then rinse. Afterwards my hair feels amazing and smells great, it's so shiny and soft! I'm cheap and use box dye so my hair usually fades fast, but after using Blousey my hair color has stayed so much better!!! This shampoo is amazing for any hair type in my opinion, I am in LOVE!

Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

So, I'm a die-hard Curly Whirly fan. Love the stuff. I have really thick hair that I refuse to actually brush, so I benefit most from really hydrating shampoos that let my waves do their thing. Hense why I love Curly Whirly, even with its little coconut bits. Sometimes it leaves my hair feeling a little course, but that's the price I pay for having an otherwise decent head of hair.

So I go into Lush and I express my love for Curly Whirly, and the girl asks if I had tried Blousey. She offered to let me try a sample, which hey, I never turn down free samples. Considering my hair is neither dyed nor fragile, I figured this shampoo couldn't do much for me. BUT I WAS WRONG.

One: yes, it smells strong. I actually really enjoy the smell, as it reminds me of a sandstone scrub I was given at a spa and something something it's great. Two: I was a little bummed that I had to use more than I'm used to - it just doesn't spread that well. Three: Once my hair dried, OH GOD THE SOFTNESS. Seriously I'm running my hands through it right now and uuuunnnnngh. Plus the smell lingers in my hair and it's super pleasant.

I never thought I'd be persuaded away from my dear Curly Whirly, but once I'm out of my current batch, I'm buying a pot of Blousey, just to switch things up a bit. Well recommended, shop lady!

Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

This shampoo is amazing. Just make sure to get used to how to disperse it effectively -- it DOES lather, you just have to apply small amounts at a time throughout your scalp and lather it from there. OH and also, the stimulating ingredients REALLY work so make sure you take extra care to not get it into your eyes.. it stings a lot otherwise.

These words of caution being considered, I LOVE this shampoo. It's gentle, rinses out well, smells good, and most importantly... MY VIBRANT RED HAIR IS HAPPY. And I get shrill about my hair's color, sooo.

Moral of the story, this is amazing. Work with the lathering technique and reap the benefits.

Blousey has a very nice, strong, earthy, incense-like smell that lasts the entire day, which I love. I can't believe how well it cleans my hair without stripping it. Yet it's moisterizing without weighing my hair down or leaving yucky buildup on my scalp -- My hair is really nice, soft and healthy looking. I'm absolutely in love with this shampoo.

For years I have been TERRIFIED of shampoo, basically for the mere fact that it dries out my hair leaving it to look like a hay stack.. none the less feel like it too. I've been doing the whole co-wash for a few years now and thats helped but I sometimes really have the need to use shampoo when I want to get a clean scalp from product build up. So I ventured off into looking for a good shampoo. Thats when I was introduced to Blousey. Its AMAZING. Its perfect for dry hair and it will keep your locks smooth and shiney looking while still feeling clean and light. I have super curly hair and I also live in one of the most drying states ever so it is critical that my hair is full with moisture. I know a lot of people complain about the smell but to be honest with you I love it. I can't quite put my figure on what it smells like but I just love the smell lol.

For anyone who has dry hair and needs a good healthy clean then I would suggest you try this shampoo. Your hair will thank you for it!

I love this shampoo! I love lush but I've been using shampoo bars (not their's) for years, I found I had less dandruff, and my hair was easier to deal with (thick, straight and plentiful hair). HOWEVER lush never has had a SLS free shampoo, and I was so happy to go to a local store and launch the same complaint about lack of SLS free shampoos - only to find my dreams had come true! I love this shampoo, I find I take a little bit, then scrub the top of my head then add more to my hand, and scrub sides/bottom/middle of my head. This is mostly because of my thick hair. I can go 2-3 days without washing my hair with this shampoo!!!!

        Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

I bought Blousey at the recommendation of a Lush associate, after I told her that I wanted something to make my overprocessed, dry hair more manageable. She recommended Blousey, and despite my skepticism after seeing what the product looks like (brown, mushed up bananas...which makes sense, as that's a large part of what it actually is), I trusted her and bought it. I'm so glad I did, because it smells awesome, and more importantly, makes my hair feel much softer than it did when I was using other shampoos. The tub that it comes in makes it a little awkward to use in the shower (unscrewing the lid, trying to keep water from getting inside, etc..), and it doesn't have as much lather as many other shampoos, but don't let that discourage you! I'm "bananas" over Blousey! And terrible puns!

Was looking for a shampoo that is gentle on my fragile, split-end-prone hair. Curly Wurly and Big both dried out my hair, Godiva was moisturizing but my hair was still splitting. So far, Blousey looks like the shampoo I've been waiting for! It does have a strong smell, and might be too strong for some, but I love it, esp. in combination with Happy Happy Joy Joy. My split ends also benefit from Shine So Bright.

            Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

I have very fine, straight hair. I dye it regularly, and thanks to the very hot ovens and heat lamps in the kitchen I work at, my hair's been more dry and brittle. I used to use Rehab, but it seemed to dull my vibrant red. So, while at my local LUSH restocking my supplies, I asked one of the ladies what they would recommend. She asked if I'd seen or tried their new shampoo. I said no, and she proceeded to show me Blousey. She explained how it worked ("No lather" caused me to raise an interested eyebrow) and gave me a sample to take home. I popped in the shower immediately when I got back and gave it a shot.
I am ADDICTED. I will admit, it DOES have a very strong smell in the shower, but that fades once you rinse, condition, and let your hair dry. And it is definitely worth it for the results. Since I started using Blousey, my hair has been softer and lighter. It feels cleaner, and my red has been so bright, as it should! I normally have to wash my hair every day, otherwise it gets greasy, but now I can wash every other day, which is nice as it makes the shampoo last longer. As someone on a budget, I would normally cringe at how much more expensive this is than some of their other shampoos, but I consider it worth the price. I did learn that it CAN lather up in the shower when you use it, but either way, it cleans my hair nicely. I definitely recommend it, especially to readheads who feel their strands are looking a little lackluster in color.

This shampoo did not strip the colour as quickly. Sadly though, the shampoo is super drying and I experienced having dandruff for the first time in my life.
The product is also very difficult to distribute through thick hair. Be warned, you'll rip through it very quickly.

My hair has had it up to HERE with the winter weather in Pittsburgh. I have short, thin/fine, chestnut brown dyed, dry hair. I've really had a hard time finding a shampoo that moisturizes without weighing my hair down until I used Blousey. Just as other reviewers mentioned, this shampoo does not lather, but it cleans my hair REALLY well. Don't be turned off by the initial smell.. your hair will smell amazing as soon as you wash it out and let it dry. This will be my staple shampoo for many more winters to come. Thanks again, LUSH!!

              Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

I am not one for strong spice odors but after initial use the scent fades; however, it is a wonderful repairing product for dry hair. I suffer from dry ends and frizz and this has definitely improved. I would prefer something that lathered a bit more, but for the result I can over look that. I don't put this directly on my scalp because my I feel that it overworks in that area.

Blousey does lather - Here's how...

              Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

When I first used this shampoo I was kind of surprised at how much it dried out my hair (though, my hair is dry to begin with), but it also left my hair with a whole lot of volume that I don't usually have and it, of course, did not strip my color. I am definitely glad I gave this shampoo a shot because it definitely does get your hair squeaky clean and I'm loving all of this volume I now have!

                Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

I have very heavily processed hair (I dye it bright colours so it goes thru a lot of bleaching and redying, plus daily straightening) and I go to great effort to keep it soft and healthy looking. A friend recommended this to me based on this, so I gave it a shot despite being neutral on the scent. This product works. I am exceptionally picky about what I use on my hair, and Lush products consistently make the cut. This has become my default shampoo now! The lack of lather takes some getting used to, and the scent is fine but not as delightful to me as some Lush products, but the effectiveness of the product is definitely worth these minor quibbles.

                Comments about Blousey Shampoo:

This was my first time using a lush product because I've heard so much hype on YouTube. I had just gotten my hair re-dyed and cut and I needed a shampoo that was going to keep my hair healthy and maintain the color. Originally I was using Biolage shampoo but I wanted to try a lush shampoo that was going to maintain my hair. This shampoo is pretty amazing. It left my hair so soft and shiny after I blow dried it and left my hair looking healthy. The one thing that was a little bit of a problem for me was the smell. It wasn't a very pleasant smell to put in my hair and my first time using it, I tried putting a styling product in my hair just to get rid of the lush shampoo smell. After a while the smell fades so it wasn't too bad. Other than the smell of the product this shampoo does the job perfectly and I will definitely continue to repurchase and maybe try some other lush products.

Hi! I have a question about Blousey and the other shampoos. I've noticed that all your shampoos contain some sulfate lathering agent. I have heard that sulfates are pretty harmful, but I love your products! Does Blousey contain the least amount of lathering agent of all your shampoos? What percentage of the product is the sulfate? How about your other shampoos, which of the shampoos have the least amount of sulfates? Thank you!

Blousy is a very gentle shampoo, and id say it lathers up least in all lush shampoos. Use this shampoo for EXTREM damaged hair but don't use if you want a deep cleaning shampoo.

Hi! My hair is not damaged, over-processed, colored, bleached or fragile. My hair is thick, and curly, and therefore needs lots of moisture! I am attracted to Blousey because of the bananas. I am wondering if I can use this product for its moisturizing properties, or is it only for problematic hair? If it is, what shampoo would you reccomend?

I would say as many times as you want. This shampoo is not very harsh on the hair at all. It won't strip any of your color. I use color and mine is still vibrant as when I first colored it. I only shampoo my hair once a week but I condition or "co-wash" about 3-4 times a week. Just make sure after using this shampoo you still follow up with a good conditioner.
