I am not one to post comments on anything i purchase or try, but this i just had to. I was skeptical in trying Henna based on some of the reviews I had read. I couldn't be happier that i just jumped in and did it.
One thing that caused me to pause was if you hair is chemically treated to wait 6 to 8 weeks (or longer) before using a Henna Product. i waited 6 weeks post chemical coloring. I have naturally dark brown hair, not ash brown, dark brown with red hints in the sun. I love my hair stylist but she is very hard to get an appointment with. The color she used never really dried out my hair (which is thin yet coarse .. yes.. its a possible combination). In an "emergency" situation, i went to someone different. The color she used not only dried my hair within weeks of getting it colored, but the base color in the brown she used was yellow so I had these funky yellow-ish streaks where my grey was starting to grown in. I was a bit scared because i didnt know what color they would turn. Keep in mind, i color my hair all one color. I do not highlight or low light my hair.
this is what i did.
i crushed the whole henna block in a double-zip lock bag and mashed it with a meat tenderizer (good thing i double bagged as the inside bag tore due to me using the wrong side of the tenderizer.
I made a pot on good strong Italian blend BOLD flavored coffee. I added 2 cups of the hot coffee to the Henna along with 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and about 4 tablespoons of Cinnamon. I read the vinegar helps the bonding of the henna to the grey and the coffee gives it a warmer shade. Not sure if any of these items worked. (this was my maiden voyage) The cinnamon is supposed to help with the "smell" some people complain about, but i really liked it.. It reminded me of fresh cut grass on an early spring morning. Very plant-herbal smell. So i mixed all these ingredients together to about the consistency of brownie batter.
My Fiancee' brought home a hot plate that he uses in his lab. I placed the glass bowl with what looked like swamp sludge in it on the hot plate set to low. I redecorated the bathroom with newspapers on the floor, grabbed a chair and went to work.
My hair is below bra strap length and fairly one length. so i divided my hair into 6 sections.
I started with the back sections first. I purchased a hair color brush (for like 99 cents and a color applicator bottle for the same price with a thin spout at the end). So i mixed the henna with a plastic spoon, tested it for warmth, dipped my color applicator brush and started to "paint my hair". I think this was my first mistake. Before i even got to the ends of my hair, the henna was starting to dry and flake off.. so i had dried chunks starting to fall on the floor. So i moved from the brush to the applicator bottle. It was nice at first, then realized that i should have gotten one with a bigger spout. As the Henna started to cool, it became harder and harder to squeeze out.
So after fighting with the brush bottle combination, i just started scooping up the henna using my hands. Trying to get the dry henna soaked hair around my head was a chore, but as the henna got hotter and more liquified it became easier and easier to work with and massage thru my hair.
Phew that was done. I then wrapped my head in saran wrap, placed a shower cap on and went in the living room. I have a heating cap that i use when I deep condition my hair so I put that on as well. (I read Henna loves heat) and kept this on for about an hour and then id take a break and put it back on. I had a dark towel handy to catch the runny drips (which never really happened, or didn't realize it because i had my shower cap on.
I finished applying the Henna at 3:30 in the afternoon and started the rinsing process at 9:30 that evening.
I thought the rinsing was going to be bad but it really wasn't. i wet my hair, pumped a whole hand full of conditioner in my hands and worked it into the Henna. The conditioner really seemed to help break it up. So i conditioned twice (with some cheap conditioner i had), then shampooed twice and conditioned two more times (with my more expensive products).
I was amazed at the results. absolutely the shiniest and most gorgeous brown i have ever seen on my head. so this is the first 24 hours post Henna and I can already see where it has changed colors. My hair became shinier than yesterday, softer than yesterday and even more red than yesterday. it turned out to be an absolutely gorgeous color
i love this product. I will never go back to chemical dyes again.. my hair loves it and its amazing.
My only suggestions is to make sure the henna is on the warm-hot side. its easier to apply and try and get someone to help you (it just makes it that much easier) work fast and dont worry about the mess.
It wipes right off with water with out a stain or a streak. The shower was a bit trickier due to the non slip flooring and the cocoa butter cause a little issue, but nothing that soap didn't take off and bleach after i was done.
I can't wait to do another henna application. This time I might mix the Henna brun with the henna maroon or rouge (in a 2:1 ratio) four blocks of the brun and two blocks of either the maroon or rouge.
(thanks Amy at the St. Louis, West County store for some great advice)

I've been researching henna and indigo dyeing for a few years. I decided to jump in using Lush's caca for my first time.
My bar of Caca Brun is 45 days old, 17 days before the Best Before date. It didn't dye practically at all. I applied with bare hands and got no staining on them. I left the caca on my head 5 hours and saw very very little color (it did turn my grey hair a very light blonde).
I believe the lack of color had to do with the age of the bar. If you buy some, buy the freshest you can find in order to get good results.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I bought this at the grand opening of the Easton store in Columbus, Ohio. I have long hair, mid back length. I bought the Brun and have been able to get three uses out of it. I believe I finally have figured out the best way to use it. I boil strong coffee. I have also found out that shaving the two blocks works very well and allows it to dissolve easily in the hot coffee. If you make the consistency like cake batter, you will not have any mess. I section my hair and apply at the roots and work down. I pile my hair on top of my head and cover with a large plastic cap. Any mess cleans up easily with a wet wash cloth. If you stain your hands, just use a bit of bleach on your hands and you will be fine. The longest I have left it on my hair is four and a half hours. The least was two hours. You definitely see better results the longer you leave it on. I use natural solid shampoo and wash twice to remove it from my hair. I condition with my solid conditioner and my hair looks wonderfully Shiny and healthy. I Love this product. I will never go back to chemically processing my hair !! Thank you Lush !!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I've been a faithful "henna head" for over a year. I am African American with armpit length natural hair. This henna has amazing strengthening and moisturizing properties! I just completed my second Lush Caca Brun Mama application. I add black and green tea, apple cider vinegar, honey and olive oil to the henna. While it's warm, I apply it to semi damp hair. I wrap it in plastic and cover that with two scarves and a beanie hat. Leave it in for at least 4 hours. It's a breeze to wash out. Like most hennas, I use cheap conditioner in the shower to wash it out. Then I deep condition and style as usual. The color is amazing, makes the grays look like highlights, and my hair has a healthy sheen to it. I've read other reviews about the smell and the mess, but practice makes perfect. The smell is natural, no artificial nonsense so it doesn't bother me. I recommend leaving it in for at least 4 hours for best color results. Good luck!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
A little background: i'm a early 30's woman with bra-strap length, naturally curly VERY dark brown/black hair. I've been looking for a non-chemical color solution for some time now. My last salon dye job (to cover grays only) left the edges of my hair rather brittle and in some cases broken. Normally I have relatively healthy hair but am getting along in years so I thought now might be a good time to switch.
In preparation for my caca brun purchase, I read every review and did some additional research on henna/lush henna and the application process. I did not find it too time consuming or messy but I believe that's partly because if preparation.
I chose to grate the block (3cubes) until it was a fine powder and used coffee as the liquidizing agent. Although I wore gloves, I used a dye brush (purchased from a local beauty supply store) to assist with application. After portioning my hair, I applied the product and when done covered my hair first with wrap then a shower cap. I've now waited 2.5 hours with my hair covered and I'm currently sitting with it uncovered (as recommended by many reviews).
As stated previously, the application wasn't too messy and it took me maybe 15 minutes to clean up after. I'm including pics from before and during the application process and will write an additional review in a few days once the color sets. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
First time using henna dye, and I am very impressed with the results!! Although, i was a little skeptical when i first mixed the paste, as it turned into a dark green.
I had bleached my hair twice and dyed red 5 times in a 5 month time period, and the last try was to dye it back to brown, which then turned into a copper color.
This did enough damage to my hair as is, so i decided to try CaCa Brun Mama, and i am so glad that i've talked myself into it, because i am so much more happier with it than using normal hair dye.
My hair feels so soft, and it's such a deep brown. My goal was to dye it as close to my natural hair color (so i can atlast grow my hair out before redying it any other color) and i think i have finally found my match!
I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a deep natural warm brown.
The cleanup was very easy, i just cleaned up the newspaper where the paste would drop, and wiped down anywhere else it got to. And it didn't stain the bathtub.
I had left it in for about 4 hours, since it was starting to feel very heavy on my head.
It washed off very easily from the bowl and pot that i used.
Rinsing it wasn't too bad. It took about 20 minutes to rinse it all out, and another 5-10 to shampoo/condition.
The only downside was that it was a rather long process, but overall it is all completely worth it! I don't think i'll ever go back to box hair dye. :) Thankyou, Lush !

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I loved this product. Exactly as the description says, the color is very subtle. My hair was dyed dark brown from a lighter brown a couple of months ago. My hair was turning orange from being in the sun a lot and this perfectly mellowed it out. My hair was dark brown, and in the sun has some nice reddish tones. I left it in my hair over night uncovered (I was afraid my hair would turn super red).
The process is A LOT easier than most of these reviews make it seem. It wasn't even messy at all during the prep and application. I grated four blocks for my hair (Past my shoulder but above my chest). I added hot water, and a few tablespoons of coffee until it was the consistency of a thin yogurt. I lined my kitchen floor with trash bags and had my friend apply the henna in my hair from front to back (I parted my hair in sections).
That part was really easy. The smell is also no where near as bad as I expected. It was quite nice actually!
It started getting messy when I kept touching my hair while the henna was drying. That was my fault though- not the product.
In the morning I rinsed my hair in the sink for a good 10-15 minutes until I felt my hair was clean enough. It wasn't difficult at all- just time consuming. Then I washed my hair with shampoo and conditioned it.
The only con I have is that after my hair was SUPER greasy. My hair has never been this greasy before. I'm sure it will go away when I wash my hair a few more times however.
Overall I loved this product and look forward to dying my hair with henna again :)

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I was excited to try out this out, as I have never used henna before. Let me just start out by saying that I am a black woman, with natural, shoulder-length curly hair, that is dry. I bought this henna because of the cocoa butter content and the description says that it is moisturizing. I saw one reviewer said that wile her hair was moisturized, the henna left it dry. That did not make sense to me until I used this product. Mixing the henna was very easy, I used one block and poured enough boiling water to make a paste. It was not too hot as I applied it to my hair, and it only took me 25 minutes! I'm not sure why everyone said this was very messy as I did not have any type of mess during the process. I left the henna on for 5 hours and rinsed, shampooed twice, and then conditioned my hair. Everything looked fine until the weeks after. It has been about three weeks since I applied the henna and I have never had breakage like this before. I did not change anything in my hair care routine; I still moisturize daily, especially at night before bed, yet my hair is coming out in clumps. The color did come out nice I must say. My hair is normally dark brown, but in the light the henna makes it a nice warm brown. Needless to say, I will not be purchasing this product again.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I used the Caca Brun hair dye yesterday and I am loving it today!
I did follow the directions on the package, but I left the product in my hair for 6 hours instead of 2 (as suggested). When I looked at other reviews I liked the look when people left it in longer. Naturally, I have very light brown hair that turns blond in the sun. It was pretty mousy looking and I wanted to go darker.
The reason why I love this product is mostly because it's natural and costs a lot less than going to the salon. I avoid all harmful chemicals in food/products I use. It was guilt free to darken my hair. If I wanted organic all natural coloring from a salon it would cost WAY more than this product.
I actually put my crock pot ceramic in a pot of water and boiled the blocks, then I put my crock pot on warm for when the henna was melted. This kept it very warm as I applied it as suggested.
If I could go back and change anything about the application, it would be covering my bathroom in drop cloths. It was very messy and will stain paint. I was also nervous about applying it to my hair, but I followed the directions and only used my hands. I went back to front making sure to section my hair. The henna dries really fast so be sure to section your hair before applying.
If the henna gets on your skin (got some on my arms) it will wash off quickly. Do use Vaseline or something on your hair line! I put it all over my neck because I have very long hair.
After the henna started to dry, I wrapped a towel loosely around my head so the dried henna did not sprinkle all over my house.
When I went to rinse out the henna, I used a large tooth comb to loosen some of the large chunks. I used an olive oil shampoo in my hair 3 times to get all the henna out. Then I conditioned with a rosemary conditioner. It took some time to get the henna out, but it wasn't as bad as I believed.
My hair today looks darker than after I initially did the treatment. Since my hair was light brown with highlights, my hair is now a dark brown with some highlight and it looks very natural. I love the way it left the highlights in. My hair is also incredibly soft and a lot less frizzy than usual (I have naturally curly hair). I will definitely be using this product in the future.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I'm a 43-year-old Asian, looking for something that would cover my gray (about 20%). I'd been using chemical dyes and wanted to switch to something natural, so I tried Lush henna.
MAJOR TIP #1: I cannot stress this enough...if you want to get gray out of dark brown hair, you must use the Caca Rouge first. I tried without it because I really didn't want to add any red, but the brown henna doesn't take to gray hair, but it does on the red-hennaed hair. It's only been day 3 since I've done it, but my gray roots now look like highlights and will, suppossedly, only get darker over the next few days. My hair doesn't look any redder than what I have naturally. I'm really excited to see the results and will post another review after a couple of weeks.
MAJOR TIP #2: GRATE the henna. Don't bash it with a hammer. I did and grating is SO much better. The powdery, grated henna is MUCH easier to work with than the hammered henna.
MAJOR TIP #3: Use really, really warm henna when applying. Not hot, but not cooled off. With a super warm henna, you can literally massage the henna into your hair, like shampoo, and that gets every, itty, bitty strand covered better than you would with a cooler, thicker henna. This makes all the difference in the world when it comes to coverage.
MAJOR TIP #4: Be prepared for a very long rinse. I put 10 minutes on my timer and was still rinsing out the grainy henna bits. Be patient, it's worth it.
Yes, it takes 10x as long to do henna vs. chemical coloring, but at the end of the day, it's worth every second. No more burning chemicals, no more hair falling out due to burning chemicals, and no damage to my hair! Yes, the smell is funky, but if you add an essential oil that you like to your conditioner or even just straight onto your hair, the smell of the henna masks pretty well.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I have been putting off using henna hair color for years for 3 reasons: 1, afraid of that faux red look that is just not for me; 2, salons told me it would ruin my hair; 3, the mess and time commitment. As it turns out all 3 were mostly unfounded. First, the color turned out great. I had low-chemical dye in my hair, and had no problems with funny hues. Second, apparently you can put henna on dyed hair but not dye on hennaed hair. Note to self: we're done with chemical dyes. Third, yes, it's messy and time consuming. Even though this was my first application of henna, it was by no means disastrous, and I have a few ideas for how to make this easier next time. No more chemicals for me!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I have been using henna for several years as a henna tattoo artist, but I have never dyed my hair with henna. I was always worried about mixing the correct amount of each ingredient and having my hair come out some cartoonish color. When I found the henna bricks at Lush I decided to give it a try, especially seeing how I already had medium brown hair, and Caca Brun is just supposed to add subtle color, which is all I was looking for.
My husband helped me apply the henna (prep was very easy and straight forward), and although the application was quite messy we got all my hair covered in about 30 minutes. I decided I wouldn't mind a little reddish tint, so I wrapped with saran wrap afterwards and waited 3 hours.
Today my hair is super shiny, still has the yummy henna & essential oils smell (I love it, but then again I'm used to it), and I LOVE the color! It's just a tad darker than my normal medium brown, but enough that it is noticable. The shine is AMAZING, and I did wind up getting just a hint of red!
This may be intimidating for some--I had the henna brick for about 6 months before I decided to use it--but there are LOTS of YouTube videos on the subject, which helped me out a lot. It's not as hard as it sounds, and the results are wonderful! Give it a try!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I wrote about my experience with the caca brun here- [@](there are some pictures and stuff)but to sum up: I loved the color it gave me, and it just about covered the weird green cast I had left in my hair from some blue dye, but it had completely faded out two weeks later. I probably should have left it in longer, but I found the perfumes in the dye totally overwhelming (not the natural henna smell, I've smelled pure henna and that's fine, but please please please, you don't need the extra perfumes!!) so could only handle a couple of hours. It was messy, but not difficult, and it cleans up easily. Had to wash my hair a few times to get all the cocoa butter out (it's very conditioning!) The perfumey smell lingered for several days (giving me a headache the whole time.) I'll probably use it again since I have several hunks of the bar left, but then I'll probably switch to buying and mixing pure henna. I love that this is premixed and ready to go, but I just can't handle the reek. I would recommend this to a friend who didn't mind smells as much as I do, and who wasn't trying to cover up a previous color but just wanted to enhance it a bit.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I was concerned about using this product on my blond highlights from 4 months ago. I applied the product mixed with brewed tea and a tablespoon of vinegar to cover the grays (I had read on other posts). I wound up using the entire block because we ran out when using 4 of the 6 squares. I think we covered very well but I also think at first I did not add enough liquid (tea). We added more tea per block with with additional 2 that we crushed to finish. Covered it with 2 shower caps and a hair towel twisty (forget the name of it) then slept for the night and my husband blasted most of the henna out with the hose outside to avoid the mess in the shower. I did shampoo and condition. Total time left in the hair about 9 hours. It felt really soft. I am posting a pic so you can clearly understand the color change for highlights. The pic was taken outside so the red is brighter, in the house the color is darker and you really don't see the highlights as much. The picture was taken within 2 hours of washing out the henna, so not sure if a change will occur. I plan on doing this again because I am trying to steer clear of chemical applications, and this makes my hair feel wonderful. Whenever I had my hair processed, it looked great the first day when the hair dresser did it, but turned very dry the next day when I washed it. That did not happen with this treatment.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I'm 38 and have been coloring my medium brown hair to a dark chocolate brown via Lady Clairol for about 6 years or so. Of late, my waist length hair has started to get a little brittle and I hated the fact that every time I color, I would pull out a couple handfuls of hair. A friend spoke highly of the reds, so I thought I would give the brun a try. I did not want red in my hair, I prefer a purple to blue base. It turned out utterly perfect. I used 3 blocks (half of the bar) and the amount was just about perfect. I squished the goop (thinner worked better for me with all of this hair) into a section of hair and then twisted it up onto my head. I ended up with 10 or 12 little buns on my hair. I left it in for nearly 5 hours. (Completely uncovered which wasn't a problem) Application was slightly messier than traditional color (but clean up was easier). Of course, waiting time was longer, which is my only complaint about henna. Rinse out was no more difficult than it is with traditional color (at least for me having a ton of hair), clean up after that was easier. My favorite part is how my hair feels so much nicer after coloring. Lingering smell is grassy and natural instead of chemical. I'll see how this holds up as far as fading goes, but I'd be happy to do it more often than chemical coloring since it makes my hair feel better instead of worse. I LOVE it! And I hope I never have to use chemical coloring again!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
Strong grass smell, kind of messy. I wrapped my scalp in plastic, left it for 3 hours, and have a nice dark red/auburn. I am a 59-yr-old woman with mousy gray hair cut very short. Hair dyes don't work on it. I just wanted to add some color, and now I have it! Very happy, thank you, LUSH! :)

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I have used henna for 5 years, now. Exclusively. I am always careful when choosing a henna that is 100% additive free and high graded/reviewed. Lush makes it so easy with their hanna bars. As henna users know, the words "easy to use" generally do not apply to using natural hair dye. However, the fact that these bars are mixed with all the extra conditioning elements, it takes the additional step of using a deep conditioner (after hanna application) out. The cocoa butters truly saturate each strand and I can definitely tell the color is more even with its use.
I use Caca Brun on my medium/dark curly hair to condition and add a warm tone. *Note that if you have darker hair, henna will not change the color drastically, only add a warm tone. Which is exactly what I desire.
If you like the natural look and are seeking a beautiful condition and amazing shine, go henna! Yes, once you use henna it is not advised to dye your hair with a synthetic dye again until the henna'd hair has been removed. This is more of a lifestyle change. Not recommended for hair dye junkies.
I have other friends with light hair that use caca rouge to get that firey red color. And I also have friends that use the Noir for the blue/black look. All of us are committed to our henna color and are highly health conscious, so henna has been the ideal dye.
Cleopatra used hennas and indigo to dye her long dark tresses. I like saying I use the same beauty secrets as Cleo. Lol.
My best recommendation to newbies of henna is to do your research! There is a lot to know about henna. Luckily, there is a large community of henna users out here. Learn from our experiences.
I laugh at some of these review about how hard it is to use and the disappointment in color results. There are 4 color choices, how many shades would one expect? Someone who writes a disappointing henna review on Lush henna are not upset with lush's product, they are upset with henna.
THIS IS THE BEST HENNA PRODUCT I'VE EVER TRIED!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I first went to Lush and had them color it at the store. It was a great experience. I just colored my own for the first time at home. It wasn't as messy as I thought it might be. My husband (who isn't a fan of coloring hair) loves how it looks. He commented on how healthy and thick it looked. The only recommendation I have for Lush is to have the henna come in a powdery form (if possible). That would make the overall process a little easier. Fabulous product. Just go try it already!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
I went to Lush and they did this for me (this is my 1st experience with henna). It smells and is messy, but the benefits to your hair...WOW!! I went from dry brittle, breaking hair to smooth, silky, healthy hair. After it was applied I wrapped it in plastic and put on a hat (it looks like greenish/black mud) and slept on it. It was a little uncomfortable and my tub was green when I washed it out (took about 20 min, 2 washed and 1 conditioning), but my hair looked fab!! It is now a deep chestnut brown with highlights and shine. My hair is in much better shape and looks great. It has inspired me to try other products at Lush and I am having a great time discovering great products that are natural and good for me!! THANKS LUSH!!!!!!!!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
i bought this product 4 months ago and was scared to try it. The reviews scared me and I thought it was going to be difficult to deal with, but I was so amazed at the ease of use, I just had to write a review.
1. Biggest complaint people have is the smell, so I went in prepared for it. However, the smell is so light, I didn't even notice it!
2. Next biggest complaint is mess. Product was sooo easy to use. I cut it in small chunks (which was super easy to do). They don't even have to be that small cuz this product melts super easily.
3. Which brings me to no. 3, this product melts super easy! I used coffee as someone had suggested and it was completely melted in a few minutes.
4. Because you make this product, you control the consistency. So to the person that said it was messy and she got it everywhere, I found that by making it a little thicker, I had complete control. In fact, when using over-the-counter colors, I always got some on my sink, towels and carpet (and it doesn't ever come out!) With this product, I didn't spill a drop.
5. I used gloves to apply, but probably didn't need to. When it came time to clean up, everything washed up super easily.
6. I did forget to protect my skin so I got some on there, but I was able to simply wipe it off with a damp cloth when I was done. It came right off. With OTC products, I had to use alcohol to get it off my skin.
7. The only reason I ever hesitated to buy this product was the price. Double my OTC product. But this product comes with 6 squares. I used two. I have shoulder-length hair. I found it was more than I needed. Think I could get away with using one. So this product will give me between 3-6 uses, making it 1/2-1/4 the price of my OTC product.
8. My mother is a beautician and has been begging me to stop using the chemical products on my hair. So I was so happy to find this natural product. My hair is shiny and healthy. Even if I have to use it more often than a chemical product ... who cares. The cost is the same or less and my hair is beautiful using a non-chemical product. I love it!!!!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:
This product is great if you are planning on not changing your hair colour to anything else any time soon.
I am naturally a blond and used the Caca Brun to go darker for winter season. I loved the color at first and my hair was super shiny.
The con to this product is that now that spring is around the corner and I want to go back to my original colour I am screwed. My hairstylist along with many other salons wont touch my hair because henna does not react well with chemical dyes. I am now stuck with greenish bland hair for a year. Awesome.

Q:
I have naturally dark brown hair, but I want it to be darker. Will there be any real change with my hair color with this henna color?Asked on 10/25/2012 by SophiaKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
The henna should deepen your color, however, you will likely have to leave it on for a longer amount of time in order to achieve your desired color. We always recommend performing a strand test ahead of time to ensure that you are happy with the results!Answered on 11/7/2012 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct

I am a natural brunette with grey which is now dyed blonde. I m allergic to box hair colors with brown or black tones. Would I be able to use this product?Asked on 10/4/2012 by Jan from McMinnville, TNKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Our hennas are made of entirely natural ingredients, so it's unlikely for them to react with conventional hair dyes. That said, we don't recommend using Caca Brun on grey or blonde hair as the indigo henna it contains has trouble catching onto lighter hair. If you would like to use Caca Brun, you can apply Caca Rouge or Caca Marron first, which will give your hair a "base coat" that Caca Brun will more reliably cling to.Answered on 11/5/2012 by Brandy from LUSH
Q:
I have human hair extensions and would need to dye these along with my hair, would this be compatible with the extensions? They've never been dyed before and normal hair dye can be used on them.Asked on 9/6/2012 by steph from CAKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Our hennas are not tested on hair extensions; however, they are most certainly tested on human hair! Since your extensions have not been dyed before, it sounds like Caca Brun should work like a charm on them! You might want to check with the maker of these extensions just to be sure, and if it is possible to do a small sample test, that would also be a good idea, just to ensure that the results are what you're going for!Answered on 11/2/2012 by Brandy from LUSH
Q:
My roots are completely white when not dyed, yet the rest of my hair is dark brown. Will the Caca Brun Mama cover my white roots to match my dark hair color or do I need to add something with it?Asked on 9/5/2012 by DorcKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Because blonde hair does not contain any pigment, the henna can sometimes have a little bit harder of a time adhering to the hair. Red henna has a little bit of an easier time holding on to the hair, and the Caca Brun does contain red henna so it should take to the hair with a little bit of effort. We would recommend keeping it on for a longer length of time, and as always, performing a strand test to make sure that the end results are what you are looking for!Answered on 11/7/2012 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
Q:
How much water should be used for the mixture? In store they said to use 3 blocks but didn't say how much water should be added.Asked on 8/26/2012 by SaraKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Hi Sara!
There is really no suggested quantities of water to be used when preparing your Henna application. We advise that you add hot water slowly allowing it to steep and then mix with blocks of Henna to produce a yogurt-like consistency. As the mixture cools down during the Henna application, you may slowly add more water to maintain the consistency and keep the mixture hot.I hope this helps!Answered on 8/30/2012 by Anonymous
Q:
Hello! I have medium brown hair which I like to dye dark/rich brown. I currently have a few blonde highlights for summer but want to get my dark brown hair back now that summer is over. I cannot decide between the caca brun and the caca noir. Can you make a recommendation or can you advise if it is ok to mix brun and noir together? Thank you!Asked on 8/25/2012 by Michelle Loves LushKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
If you are going for dark, chestnut brown, Caca Brun is definitely the henna to go with, as the Noir will be too dark. You can certainly try mixing the two, though we always recommend doing a strand test before doing your entire head of hair so you get a good idea of what to expect.Answered on 10/27/2012 by Anonymous
Q:
Is it safe to chemcially straighten hair after using Caca Brun?Asked on 8/8/2012 by MLPKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Since we do not test our hennas in combination with any chemical treatments, we would not be able to say for sure either way. That said, the chemicals that are used to chemically straighten are different from henna so there shouldn't be a problem. As always, we recommend doing a strand test before the treatment to make sure that the results are what you're looking for.Answered on 11/7/2012 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
Q:
Hi,
I want rich brown hair but I don't really want a red hue to it. so should I not wrap my hair in Saran wrap? If not, what should I do?
also, I'm seeing a lot of reviews on coffee and mixing it with the henna. What is your take on that.
last question: is putting my hair under the dryer going to have better results when I rinse?Asked on 8/5/2012 by LushjunkieKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Caca Brun has been formulated to contain coffee already, so there's no need to add more to the mixture unless you're feeling adventurous. For first-time henna users, I always recommend using the products as they are for a while before mixing in new additives to be on the safe side. As for going brown, while covering the hair with plastic wrap will temporarily keep it a warmer reddish tone, this will darken after you rinse the product out, as the indigo continues to oxidize over the next day or two post-application. Your best bet is to do a strand test first, and continue to observe it for a couple of days, and if you like the result, then proceed with a full application.Answered on 8/28/2012 by Megan from LUSH Direct
Q:
Hi,
Let's say that I do this henna today ( August 5, 2012) and i only apply it this once , and in a few months the henna eventually fades from my hair and whatnot, but I don't apply it again. Then, the following summer (year 2013) I decided to dye my hair in the salon. Will the henna that I apply now have any long term effect on my hair and future coloring of it ?Asked on 8/5/2012 by LushjunkieKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
While henna is a permanent change to the hair, it can fade in intensity over time. You may still be able to safely use chemical dyes after using henna, but please perform a strand test in advance to be certain that your hair will be the colour you like, especially if you already have henna on it, and want to introduce chemical dyes.Answered on 8/28/2012 by Megan from LUSH Direct
Q:
Should i not use this product if i have chemically straightened hair? Are there any cmplications or changes in the product performance related to the chemicals used in straightening?Asked on 8/3/2012 by Em laughton from ConnecticutKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Since the chemicals involved in straightening hair are different from what is used in color treatments, you should be good to go! That said, we always recommend doing a strand test before taking the big plunge to make sure that the results are what you're looking for!Answered on 10/30/2012 by Brandy from LUSH
Q:
How can I remove the henna? After using the henna my hair has now turned blueAsked on 7/26/2012 by anonymous from United StatesKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Henna cannot be easily removed from the hair, which is why we recommend a strand test prior to a full hair application. You may be able to apply another layer of Caca Brun to deepen the colour to a more brown shade, however, we do not really have any way to remove it, as it is a permanent colour change. The colour will slowly fade over time, however if you do plan to use a synthetic dye on top, it is extremely important to do a strand test prior.Answered on 8/28/2012 by Megan from LUSH Direct
Q:
I have shoulder-blade length hair that is extremely thick. When I color my hair at home with drugstore kits, I need 3 boxes to cover it all. Is one bar of Caca Brun Mama enough for this much hair, or should I order two?Asked on 7/7/2012 by SnowKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
I would absolutely recommend ordering two. The henna works best when it is applied in a very thick coating, so making sure that the hair is covered thickly and evenly is best. It is better to have more than you'll need and save an extra block or two for next time than to find that you do not have enough!Answered on 7/12/2012 by Laura from LUSH

I enjoy swimming recreationally (not on a daily basis). Before I use this product on my hair, does chlorine have any effect on hair color when using this product, either with fading, or turning hair blue or green?Asked on 5/16/2012 by AnonymousKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
Chlorine can leave a greenish tint on any hair- coloured or not, so we'd recommend using a swim cap before going in the pool to keep your hair colour looking best. If you're not able to use a swim cap, make sure to get your hair wet with clear water before going in the pool to minimize how much chlorinated water is absorbed. That said, I'd still recommend a swim cap whenever possible, and a really good rinse immediately after swimming.Answered on 6/12/2012 by Megan from LUSH

I would like to try the Caca Brun henna, but I have some stubborn gray (one little patch of it). Do I need to use the Caca Rouge first, to coat the gray, then wait a few days, and then do Caca Brun so that my grays are covered, but not orange or brassy? What's the best way to go about using henna on gray while avoiding orange/bright red coloring?Asked on 3/30/2012 by lovesmarigolds from Eugene, OregonKnow the answer? Answer this question
2 answers
A:
The Caca Brun should work to cover the gray hair, as it contains red henna, which adheres quite nicely to hair with no pigment. You may need to leave the henna on the gray area longer than the rest of your hair, so I may suggest doing that section first, and then going over the head again with the color to blend the whole head. As is the case with any color, we definitely recommend performing a strand test ahead of time to ensure that you will be happy with the final color.Answered on 9/5/2012 by Melissa S from LUSH DirectA:
Go with the Brun. I had gray throughout (little streaks here and there). I used apple cider vinegar (just enough to fill the bottle's cap 1-1/2 times) and the color was an amazing brown. The apple cider vinegar was a recommendation made by Lush.Answered on 5/2/2012 by C from Milwaukee, WI
Q:
I am using chemical dyes to cover gray. Will this product help me with complete gray coverage with a dark brown color?Asked on 3/27/2012 by AnonymousKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
We don't recommend using the Caca hair hennas on hair that is more than 40% grey, and the results vary from person to person as some grey hair may be more resistant to colour than others. Some find that greys can be covered with repeated applications, however I'd strongly recommend doing a strand test beforehand to see whether the results will be to your liking.Answered on 3/28/2012 by Megan from LUSH
Q:
I have naturally light brown hair. Right after Christmas I got a couple highlights and lowlights. Has anyone tried this product with similar hair to mine? I know I have to do a strand test to make sure it won't react strange, but I wanted to hear other opinions from people that have tried it. Did any of you come out with blue hair?Asked on 3/1/2012 by AnonymousKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
If the highlights are quite light, you may have trouble getting the Caca Brun to cover them, and a strand test should give a good indication of how this will take. You may also want to visit the LUSH Cosmetics Youtube channel and check out the video titled "Lush Cosmetics: Mark's Master Class: Lizzie's Colour" as this will give a great example of Caca Brun on hair with some highlights.Answered on 3/7/2012 by Megan from LUSH
