Hair color before: A mousy dark blonde……….completely natural.Hair color after: A vibrant Chestnut brown with a red glow.Caca(s) Used (include number of squares): 2 squares Marron – 1 Square BronTime left on: 6 hoursAdditional mix-ins: 1 TBS olive oil, I teaspoon of ground clove powder, I teaspoon of cinnamon. Wrapped or Unwrapped: WrappedAdditional techniques: I pretty much heated the henna for the entire 6 hours, I think that’s why my color is so intense. The constant heat also kept the Henna as a warm liquid, where on my strand test, the henna dried out; I think that’s why the strand test didn’t work. This is the hot oil treatment cap that you put in the microwave to heat.LINK:[@]/microhaircap/Washed out with: Water, and Alchemy natural shampoo.Trick for getting it out: I just tipped my head upside down, and let water run over my hair. At first it felt like a thick layer of clay, but after gently massaging my hair the henna started to loosen and rinse away. I had to shampoo about 5 times to completely remove the sands-like residue. It left no stains on my skin or neck.Strand Test: Yes, but it failed miserably. I left it on for 6 hours and my hair was exactly the same color. I don’t think I put enough on. I also did a patch test on my arm to make sure I wasn’t allergic to Henna, it didn’t turn red or itch so I assumed it was safe.I used bottled spring water instead of tap water to add to the Henna. After having some reactions to chemical dyes (red itchy scalp for days) I was apprehensive about trying Henna. I didn’t believe that I could get such a vibrant color from something completely natural. I love the color and my hair felt the same as before I dyed it………(only now it was thicker)I’d recommend Henna to everyone……….I think the trick is the constant heat.

I wear my hair natural and had read recommendations for this product on several blogs and web sites for those of us who wanted to try henna, so basically a henna for beginners. The preparation wasn't that difficult but while applying it I kept noticing grains and balls of something hitting the paper I had placed on the floor. I left it on for about 3hrs and washed it out. So the horror began here!!! I washed and washed and my hair still felt like i had coffee grounds all in my hair! I left conditioner in it about 30min hoping it would pull it out but it was still full of grains. I rinsed until the water ran cold and it was STILL in my hair! I began to worry that these grains were cutting my hair by remaining so close to my scalp and held my head over the sink, grabbing sections of hair shaking the grains out and hoping my hair didn't go with it! I finally had to sit down, section my hair and brush out the grains!!! Im ok with the color due to the fact that I wear my hair darker in the fall/winter but my roots weren't dyed at all. It conditioned my hair good but defiantly wasn't what I expected. I was so hyped to try it but im totally discouraged and disappointed.

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I am an AA woman who is transitioning to natural hair. My hair is past my shoulders in length, very coarse, thick, and I have a lot of grays. I read about this product in an issue of Lucky magazine and was intrigued by the use of a natural hair dye.
After researching henna and watching a ton of henna videos on Youtube I decided on a game plan. I used the entire bar on my hair. My mother crushed it using a plastic bag and hammer. I mixed the powder with hot water until the consistency was like brownie batter. I then added a cup of conditioner to the mix. The conditioner made the mix thicker so I added more hot water to get the consistency I wanted.
My mother applied it to my hair with a brush that is used to apply traditional hair dye. She started at the roots and worked down to the ends of my hair. When she was done she wrapped my head in plastic wrap. There was no mess. The smell was like coffee and tea mixed and no one complained about the smell. The hardest part, for me, was sitting with it on for eight hours. The dripping drove me crazy. I rinsed it out after about six hours.
The color is gorgeous. I was suprised that it worked so well as my hair is naturally very dark. My gray hair is much lighter but that should go without saying. My hair was soft, and shiny. I will definitely use this product again.

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
It is messy, but well worth it! I didn't find that it took any longer to apply than any other hair dye that I have used.
It coats great! You do leave it on for a couple of hours, but it is well worth it! I can't believe the color and shine as well as the subtle tints in it. You aren't all one solid color and you don't come out jet black either!
I have gotten so many complements on my hair since using Henna as well as other Lush Hair care products.
I am absolutely in LOVE with LUSH!
I just wish I would have found them years ago - I would have had better skin a lot sooner and I wouldn't have wasted tons of money of other products that I ended up tossing in the trash.

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I've used Clairol Natural Instinct's semi-permanent hair color in Dark Auburn Brown for 20 years. Every month putting those chemicals on my head. My hair has started thinning and though I can't say for certain it's from the chemical hair dye product, that's my gut instinct. So I went in search of a natural product. After months of research, I found Lush's henna and gave it a try.
My biggest apprehension was, "How do I mix this up and how do I apply it?" I'm not sure if all Lush stores offer this, but the one on Armitage Ave in Chicago will mix it up for you and apply it to your hair, taking all the fear out of the process.
What to expect: it looks like a giant bar of chocolate. You put it in a pot, add hot water over the top until it melts then stir it into a yogurt-like consistency and glop it on your hair (starting at the scalp and working your way to the ends). Cover every strand. Then wrap your head up (I needed help with this part) in saran wrap and leave it on for 3 hours. I put a bandana on over the saran wrap, went out and ran errands. When it's on, the dye has this earthy, pleasant smell that I really liked.
The mix is the consistency of a gritty yogurt. When you rinse it out, rinse the best you can, most of the grit will come out. Then add some shampoo and that will get the rest of the grit out. Condition. My hair was the softest it's been in my life. The color is amazing. I love it!
A huge bonus is that this henna did not stain my white sink and bathtub the way my Clairol hair dye does.
I wish I had this product 20 years ago. It is heaven for your hair. I will use this from now on until they stop making this product.

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
This is a great alternative to hair dye, especially for African-American women who wear their hair natural because our hair is very delicate. This is actually the 3rd time I've used it, and it does get easier. Yes it is a bit messy (nothing some newspaper and cleaner can't fix), and the smell is a little overwhelming, but the results are well worth it!
I pretty much stuck to the directions given (I did add a tbsp of EVOO) and I left it on for 4 hours the first time, maybe 5 the second time. I'm starting to grey at the temples, and this henna brought out shimmery brown/red strands where the grey was! It looks great in the sunlight, yet still looks natural, and I've been recommending it to everyone!
My hair is medium length, and the first two times I used three squares. I noticed that since my hair is growing, the next time I may need four. Hope this helps!

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I honestly never EVER write reviews on products but because it was so difficult for me to find a helpful review, I decided to write my own. I purchased the Lush Caca Marron Mama because I wanted a change that didn't involve having to chemically damage my hair. I heard a little bit about the Henna hair dyes and I decided to find out for myself. While in the store, the sales associate was really helpful and suggested I buy the Caca Marron since my hair is already dark brown (naturally) and I wasn't brave enough to go red (Caca Rouge). The process is VERY long…and it can get messy. Let me just say I have very thick wavy/curly hair. It's not very long (mid-back), it's dark brown, and it's not chemically processed or damaged. It took me about 8 hours from melting the block, to washing my hair, to then straightening it. Some people have said that the dye smells a bit. I actually like the smell. It smells…"Earthy". It kind of smells like the Lush store actually. I will say though, the smell does stay in your hair even after washing it. But I don't mind it too much…yet. I left the dye in my hair for a little over 3.5 hours and my hair color remained the SAME. If there is a change in color, it is VERY subtle. However, the reason why I still gave this product 3 out of 5 is because of how my hair felt afterwards. My hair is literally the softest I've ever felt (and I use a lot of hair products) so it did do half of its job. I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to see any change in my hair color but in all fairness the sales associate and instructions stated that you should use a test the henna on a strip of your hair before dying everything, and of course I did not. So I don't blame them. Also the sales associate was super helpful and said I would even be able to return it if I tested a strip of my hair and didn't like it. So, all in all, the product didn't change my dark brown hair to a beautiful auburn but it did make it feel amazing. I recommend it regardless; just make sure you try it out on a small piece of your hair beforehand!

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I have very long thick hair so I need to use two of these which is quite annoying because it's double the price. The color came out fantastic, I absolutely loved it. The condition of my hair after was phenomenal. It is a pain to use and does make a mess of my kitchen but it is pretty much worth it. The thing that really bothers me is that is fades off within a month. You can barely notice the red in my hair anymore. I would go out and purchase another one but since I have to get two, it is too much for me to pay every month. Overall it was pretty good, but I wish it would of lasted longer.

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I had my hair done at a Lush store for free and she did a fantastic job. The application took about an hour and then I left it on for about two more. It's a strong smell and honestly its called 'Caca --' for a reason- seriously looks like baby poop. But unlike chemical dyes, it doesn't sting or damage my hair. My hair is SO soft now and I think it smells nice. Rinsing the henna out afterwards is kind of gross, it's like rinsing mud out of your hair. My hair is very dark with lightened ends, but the henna gave a really nice tint to it and gave a dramatic effect to the ends.

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I really love this product and will continue to use. I used a non-henna rinse and was not as happy as when I used the caca marron.
Although this product smells bad it gave the best color, softness, and vibrancy to my hair. Everyone I know loves the color.
It was not easy the first time I used it, however, I have the hang of it and worked out all the kinks and issues. For me it takes as much time or less to use this product compared to other hair rinse I used.
I also learned how to try different ingredients to gain more softness and vibrance.
Tips: As they stated, don't be afraid to add other ingredients~it can be fixed.
~Stand on newspaper and apply quickly as some of the product will fall from your hair.
~I know it smells bad, but the longer you leave it on the better the color
~Rinse hair very well (You will use a good bit of water) and shake hair while rinsing. It will release a good bit of the coffee grains.
~Use a conditioner to help release the remainder of the grains in the hair.
I am a black woman with medium length natural brown/gray hair and these tips help me.

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I'm not going to bore anyone with the whole process, there are plenty of reviews one can read if they want to know how to use it.
I started out a hair virgin, with gold-colored (there really is no other way to describe it haha) hair with subtle redness to it. I love my hair color but I was bored and prefer my hair color I had as a child which was darker and more red, so I bought caca marron hoping that it would bring out a bit of the brown and more of the red.
I did add ~3 tablespoons of paprika to enhance the red, and about a tablespoon of cinnamon to add to the scent. I actually love the smell of this henna, contrary to many reviews saying it smells bad. It doesn't, it's just not laden with harsh fragrances, which in the end damage your hair.
I left the dye on, under a shower cap, for 4 hours. It took me about 15 or 20 minutes to get all of the dye out, but I do have thick hair that falls about an inch below my bust line. (I used 5 squares for reference.)
The result I got was extremely soft and healthy hair and more red than brown. For me to say that this is the healthiest my hair has ever felt is a huge compliment, because I take extremely good care of my hair. I won't even use real shampoo on it! (I use baking soda- google it. It will change your life.) And the color is subtle, which is good since this is the first time that I've colored my hair.
Overall, I'm very happy. I think understanding that this is an experiment is important: nobody's hair will react the same. Next time, I will know to keep it in an hour or two longer, and maybe even add a square of caca brun for more brown :)

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
Oh my goodness, this product is a dream come true! I've been despairing for months and months about recoloring my hair. I decided on a break after years of quarterly dying whatever color suited my fancy because I had completely fried hair. Lots of intense work later, and my hair had reclaimed its soft wavy state. And then, I started going gray! I'm not yet 30, and while I'm a fashion and makeup minimalist, I just couldn't live with the gray anymore (regardless of the very dignified silvery stripe forming between my widow's peak and my temple). Still, the restored quality of my hair prevented me from seeking anything out.
By chance, a friend nudged me toward Lush because of the skin allergies I have, and I stumbled across the henna hair dye. Ecstatic to have found something natural, I was undaunted by the many reviews (and my friend's comments) that henna can be very messy. Deciding to go for the plunge, I purchased the Marron.
I am completely in love! Yes, this process involves a lot of work, but, the results and the payoffs are SO worth it! I love to bake, so I was totally involved and curious about using the double boiler to prepare the product. I used a simple hot plate to keep the brownie-batter-paste warm while I applied the color. It is messy, but appropriate preparation makes clean up a snap (news paper on sink/floor under your feet, Vaseline for around your scalp as a cheap alternative to prevent staining of skin, rubber gloves and the right tools). It didn't take me anymore time than using a traditional hair dye system (aside from prep) to apply the color. I played video games while it set, took a shower, and bam! Fantastically soft, vibrant, shiny color - and I can use it as often as I want!

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I love this caca! The color was a fantastic brownish red and I am so happy that I tried it because I've always wanted to try out a red mane! This may sound gross to some but after I used this henna, I did not wash my hair for a week. (Usually I do it every other day) Not one stand on my head was greasy, it was perfect! My hair is also much more managable after using this. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is fading pretty quickly. I used the Ultimate Shine so I don't know if that is why the top half of my head faded out to a not so perfect color while the shaft of my hair stayed the same perfect shade of red. I wish that this henna would be a little bit more permanent.

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I'd never dyed my hair before, ever, in my 24 years of life. I liked my own color...naturally, I'm a dark brown...but I've always liked red hair too. Right now my hair is just past shoulder length.
Honestly, this stuff isn't as hard to use as people make out. I just broke off 3 squares, plopped them in a bowl with a healthy spoonful each of paprika and cinnamon, put the teakettle on, and poured some boiling water over the whole mess. Poured some more boiling water in a larger bowl, set the smaller one in the larger one, and let it sit for a few minutes. The blocks melted just fine.
I added a little more water to get it to about the consistency of yogurt, then threw a towel around my shoulders, pulled on the rubber gloves that Lush thoughtfully sent with the product, and started working it into my hair. Grab a chunk, coat it with muck, repeat until your head is covered. I did it over the sink. The bathroom mirror helped immensely. Whatever dripped, I just rinsed down the drain.
I did coat my hairline and ears with petroleum jelly. After application was completed, I covered the whole mess with a shower cap and puttered around the house for about four hours. Then I jumped in the shower with a bottle of cheap conditioner.
After all the comments saying it was hard to rinse out, I was expecting a battle. However, I found that it washed out fairly easily, and I have thick hair. "Shrugs". The conditioner helped a LOT. I shampooed, conditioned again, and blow-dryed.
My hair is now a GORGEOUS mahogany. The henna didn't really change my natural color, it just made it redder, if that makes any sense. If I go out in the sun or stand under bright lights, my hair lights up like a bonfire. Gorgeous. Stunning. And it feels like silk, and is SHINYSHINYSHINY.
This stuff is amazing. I'll be buying it again.

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I did it with my friend and it was really fun! She has dirty blond hair and I have medium brown, it was bright red on her and brownish redish on me (if you are in the sunlight it looks a lot redder). I absolutely LOVE my hair now I am even considering going a shade redder. It is VERY messy but me and my friend did it outside so it didn't stain anything I would highly recomend doing it outside when I was doing it it was all over the ground, and me! We left ours in for 2 hours and that seemed to be a good amount for the bright red color. I would say that if you leave it in for 2-3 hours that is good even for bright/dark red color. when you wash it out it is so messy! In the henna are these little pieces that are basically the consistency of coffe grounds that are coating your hair and they take forever to get out but once you do it isn't like sand where for the next week you are finding pieces in your hair. I have definitely noticed that my hair is much stronger since i did the henna. I LOVE this product and would definitely recommend it.

I want to be as foward as possible and then I'll leave a couple side comments.-3 blocks was more than enough for hair right below the shoulder-not as messy as many describe,I suggest getting a dye/perm brush-didnt stain anything, just be aware of where you are sitting or what you are doing-left in for 6 hours, sun treated for about two-fill up bathtub with water and dunk head in whille working it out (conditioner helps)*note-will leave a green ring on the tub and the water turns a sick reddish brown color but once you clean the tub it's fineThings I added:a pinch of cinnamin for smelltablespoon of red koolaid (fruit punch or cherry)Things to expect if your hair is light brown or lighter:-it'll become a solid brown color with red highlights an auburnish color (koolaid really helped)-The conditioning benefits were insane, hair was shiny, had tons of body and felt amazing and softthe results occur and look better as time goes on, so be patientThings not to expect:-drastic hair color change-bad smell, it smells like tea (with the cinnamin)-terrible clean upside notes:this worked on both relaxed and natural black hair (my friend and i both used it)-work fast when putting it in because it cools and overcooks easily-YOGURT CONSISTENCY!!!!-Wait for results..hated it the first day loved it the next-patience is key, do this on a sunday or sometime when you have all day to do absoulutley nothing-the mess is worse when taking it out, not terrible but it is a process-bottom line it was really great and my friend and i split a bar so it only cost me [$] bucksp.s you can do it alone, not hard at allGOOD LUCK!

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I am so happy, this was my first time using henna period. I read all the reviews and then asked the store closest to me if they would apply the henna in their store, I had zero confidence in my ability to get it right and I knew I'd make a huge mess. They were happy to apply it in store, and honestly it was SO much fun!!. I have extremly thick hair and it took them about an hour to apply the henna to my hair. I left it on for about 4 hours and then rinsed right before bed, it did take a while to get it all out. My hair had dried into a lump on the top of my head. Once I got the majority of it rinsed out I combed it for about 10 mins just getting leftover flakeys out. I love the color, it's natural and subtle but deffinatly there. My naturally very dark brown hair now has a reddish hue that shines and shimmers. I also love that they mix the henna with cocoa butter, it left my hair feeling so soft and smooth.

Finish: Gorgeous, Natural yet Dramatic Auburn/ Mahogonay Goddess Locks.
I had the henna paste applied at my local Lush store. They were efficient and knowledgeable about the product, and they offered the service for free! I added a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of paprika after reading reviews that said they helped. I insisted on buying them a pizza (they said pizza beats tips), and while we were waiting for the pizza, they gave my friend and me full hand treatments with lotion and scrub and cuticle cream. The works! It was fantastic. I left the mall looking funky, but what can you do. I left the henna in for 4 hours. Yes, washing it out was a long process, but honestly, SO WORTH IT. Use conditioner first!! It really helps loosen the henna. I used conditioner, then 2 rounds of shampoo, then conditioner, then shampoo, then conditioner. After that I blow dried my hair.
Good lord.
THE COLOR.
It is so beautiful! Sexy, deep auburn with just the right amount of red. It looks like it is my natural color, and I am gifted with the most gorgeous hair ever. It also feels so healthy! My friend said yesterday that I looked like a hair advertisement. The shine is unparalled. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone!! I feel blessed to have found this product!

never going to buy this again. I have dark brown thick long hair and i got this because i wanted a subtle change and had read rave reviews about these dyes ,but upon using, was sorely disappointed. The coffee grinds serve no purpose whatsoever, since you can just substitute the water with actual coffee. They were so hard to get out i had to rinse and rinse plus they hurt my scalp. Plus i saw no difference in the color of my hair. I will use the rest of it but i wont be buying caca marroon ever again but maybe i'll try rouge or just actual real henna because this stuff is expensive

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
I read peoples' comments about being very pleased with the new product and wanting to be ginger/auburn for the coming fall, I jumped at the henna! I'm very into natural lifestyles and so the smell didn't bother me during the process, it just smelled like herbs and honestly, henna (I've used it before on my hands and feet).
The process was REALLY messy though. I had my friend do it in the kitchen and so I covered the floor with newspaper and golly, I was glad I did. When we finished it looked like we'd invited a herd of wild boars through my flat. I also sacrificed a t-shirt and a towel to this project. Some henna dripped on my arms but washed off without a problem. I had also applied Vaseline (you really don't need to buy ultrabalm. I bet even Neosporin would work if you're hard up) around my ears, hairline, and nape of neck so I didn't experience any staining.
I chose to wrap my hair in clingwrap for a redder color and because the package recommended leaving it in for 1-2 hours, I left it in for 2 ½ hours. I wish that LUSH had some sort of color chart with pictures about how intense the color is going to be depending on how long you leave it in. On the website it said 1-6 hours but I had read that 4 ½ was too long so I erred on the side of caution. Now I regret it. I had wanted my hair to be slightly browner than Kate Winslet's hair in "Titanic" or even the same color, just not any redder/oranger. I started out with dark brown hair (not quite chestnut) and an ombre-effect that went to blond highlights. I ended up with the promised chestnut but the red tint is quite subtle (it DOES brighten up in the sunlight, though) and though the color is GORGEOUS and my hair is smooth and amazing, I wish it'd been redder.
I feel like the package and the website should have corresponded with times and again, expressed expected results depending on the time. I'll probably layer more henna over this but I feel like I'm buying a product twice that I should have only bought once. If you want the chestnut then go for this for 2-2 ½ hours but if you're expecting redder results, leave it in for longer as I should have.
Oh and this is an ALL DAY PROJECT. With melting some henna for the strand test, waiting on the strand test, applying Vaseline, melting the rest for the real thing, applying the henna, reheating when the henna got too cold, wrapping my head, letting the dye sit, and washing it out? All day. I even had to cancel plans I had made in the evening because my head was cling-wrapped.
P.S. The herbal-henna smell also lingers in your hair even after three washes and I'm starting to get sick of it but I don't think there's anything LUSH can do to remedy that and it's really not the end of the world.
P. P. S. I also hope that LUSH will post appropriate Shampoos and Conditioners to use with this dye because I'm afraid to use my regular old Aussie.

Not everyone knows this, but if you live near a Lush store, some of them will actually do the messy work for you! I had Grayson at Portland (NW 23rd) Lush do my hair yesterday with the CaCa Marron. First off, THANK YOU GRAYSON! great job, saved me the mess, and gave a full instruction afterward. Now to the color: AMAZING! I was so worried it would be way over the top dramatic and I didn't want that. Its great! As a brunette, it just spices up the color a little, making it warmer and adds just enough red to be sexy! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Comments about LUSH Caca Marron Mama:
Okay so before using this product I had never dyed my hair before. Needless to say I was nervous to do anything too drastic, but I was also ready for change and decided to commit to the Henna path. I had a coworker who had used Henna in the past so I asked what she used and she told me about the Lush Caca Rouge. I went to my local Lush store and received very helpful advice from the sales girl, who when hearing what I wanted my ultimate results to be suggested the caca marron. I'm so glad she did, from my continuing research I realized the Rouge would have been way brighter and more shocking then I was aiming for. She also said they could apply it in store for me which was awesome.
So I made my appointment and came back to have the Henna applied. All the sales girls were so fun, and offered great personal advice. I didn't find the process extrememly messy, but I also wasn't really doing the application. It took about 45 minutes for her to apply 5 blocks to my slightly longer then shoulder length hair. She put the ultrabalm along my hair line, and which successful prevented my skin from being dyed.
I left the mall looking like an alien with saran wrapped balls of mud on my head. Got home and put an old towel around my neck. The henna dripped a lot, and stayed wet because I left it in the saran wrap. Use towels you don't care about. After 4.5 hours I couldn't wait any longer and started to wash it off in the shower. Honestly it wasn't as difficult as some people make it out to be. Although I did get my hair cut the day before so I was dealing with a lot less hair then I'm used to. I rinsed each section individually. It made a mess of the shower, but It all washed off when I was done. It really just reminded me of trying to get a lot of sand out of my hair after the beach. Probably took me 20 minutes total. I rinsed, conditioned, shampooed, and conditioned again.
My hair which is naturally a medium brown, with golden highlights, had transormed to a bright copper in bright light. Two days out it is now more of the dark chestnut I was aiming for with auburn highlights. In the shade or when wet, my hair looks like I didn't do anything to it. But in sun or artifical light the red really shines. I wanted color that wouldn't be an obvious change but still receive amazing complements on my 'natural hair color" and that's what I got. If you want drastic this is not for you. But if you have dark hair and want to amp up with red tones in it like I did I would definitely recomend it. Also highly recommend having someone else apply it, at the Lush store if you can, if not a friend.
Oh and two days out it does still kinda smell like coffee and weed when you stick your face in it. The smell seemed to get stronger during the washing process. Hopefully it will completely go away with in the week.

A:
Caca Marron has not been tested simultaneously with keratin treatments, so it's definitely recommended to do a strand test! Also, it may be a good idea to consult the manufacturer of the treatment you'll be using or the salon where you'll be getting it done to see if the ingredients are compatible with this particular treatment.Answered on 11/5/2012 by Brandy from LUSH

You can definitely combine our hennas if you'd like to get a more specific effect! You can also re-apply your henna as soon after the original application as you'd like, and the effects will build on top of each other to become more dramatic! It's best to do a strand test before going for a full application, just to make sure that you're getting the desired look!Answered on 11/1/2012 by Brandy from LUSH

A:
Because the hennas are actually good for your hair (unlike chemical dyes, which can be quite damaging), there is no minimum amount of time required between uses. I would probably recommend waiting a week, though, because it can take a few days for the color to fully develop post-hennaing.Answered on 8/1/2012 by Laura from LUSH

I used this color a couple months ago and while I liked the color, the intensive application process and the fact that my hair smelled like patruli every time it got wet for a week overwhelmed any benefits and I have decided not to use the color again. While we do not officially recommend using synthetic dye over top of henna, I'd recommend performing a strand test first to see if the results will be to your liking. Only if you are happy with the results of the strand test, would I proceed with the dye.Answered on 8/28/2012 by Megan from LUSH Direct

I have pretty long hair(it falls just under my bust) and it is pretty thick (I have Asian hair).
My hair is basically black (and I have never dyed it before), and I just want a pretty tint. I don't want a huge change but I want people to be able to notice a different color.
I was wondering how much of the bar I should use. Should I only use three or half or all of it. And how long should I keep it in? Is it better to keep it longer soaked on my head to get the color I want?
I also heard that some people put in lemon juice to add depth and coffee if you want it more brown, do these extras actually have affect to the hair?Asked on 7/17/2012 by EmilyKnow the answer? Answer this question

A:
The great thing about Les Cacas is that co-founder Mark Constantine has already mixed all the ingredients you need for the best colour, so you don't need to worry about adding lemon juice or coffee, and so forth, as they're already in there! For bust length hair, I'd recommend using at least 2/3rds of the bar, if not the whole thing depending on the thickness. Each bar comes with full instructions on how to apply it for best results. On very dark hair, the Les Cacas are quite subtle, so please perform a strand test first to ensure you'll be happy with your results.Answered on 8/28/2012 by Megan from LUSH Direct

My hair is mostly salt & pepper gray but has been colored every 4 -5 weeks over many years. Is it safe to use Henna on previously colored hair?Asked on 6/21/2012 by AnonymousKnow the answer? Answer this question
1 answer
A:
With color-treated hair, we would always recommend doing a strand test first. The henna works very differently, and knowing what the results will be before you dye your entire head is a good idea (because using chemical dyes over henna if you are not happy is a very difficult and risky undertaking indeed!). The henna will also work differently on the "salt" than the "pepper" portions of your hair, leaving them more brightly colored and looking like highlights, so make sure that some of each are included in your test. The henna is a very gentle way of coloring, however, and would be safe for hair that has been previously color-treated, provided you are happy with the results of the test. I would be careful if you are using the hennas on bleached hair, as the porous nature of bleached hair can cause the henna to apply unevenly.Answered on 7/13/2012 by Laura from LUSH

I have been doing my research on henna and previously color treated hair. I bought the Caca Marron Mama henna in hopes to tone down the honey bronze color in the front of my hair from a dye gone wrong and make it all the same hue. I have natural 3b curly brown hair with some lighter portions in the front. Unfortunately, as we do not test our hennas on color treated hair, I would not be able to advise as to weather or not the henna would take your hair to your desired color, however, I would recommend performing a strand test to see if how it takes to your hair. We also recommend waiting a couple of months between switching between synthetic dye and henna.Answered on 9/5/2012 by Melissa S from LUSH DirectA:
You'll get some brighter patches with the henna over the bronze highlights, but it should bring it close to even. This definitely will darken your hair overall, but it looks really great :-)Answered on 8/17/2012 by PortlandiaMama from Portland OR

It won't be a subtle change. I have some dark blonde hairs in the front of my head that turned orange after I dyed using caca marron. My natural hair is a brown, which turned subtly red/orange (very apparent in the sun), not darker.Answered on 6/20/2012 by Lindsay from Farmington, CTA:

A:
Henna does affect the hair strand permanently, so it will never wash out completely, though it will fade slowly in intensity after about 6-8 weeks. You could probably use one full brick of Caca Marron for that hair length, and I like to keep extra on hand just in case I run out.Answered on 6/5/2012 by Megan from LUSH

I used the henna product and was very happy, but now I need to do my roots only - any hints???Asked on 5/11/2012 by AnonymousKnow the answer? Answer this question

A:
I would treat it like a normal dye job. Apply henna to the roots only at first (you may need a colorist brush which you could get from Sally's Beauty Supply for a buck or two). Wait 30 mins, then coat the rest of your hair. You may have to warm up your henna again before doing the rest of your hair but I would think that would work since your roots would get more time to saturate.Answered on 5/15/2012 by xannbe from Boston, MA

I have long hair that goes inches beyond my bra line in the back and I used all six blocks. Maybe try 3 blocks. Remember you want to lay it on thick like mud so take that into account! Hope this helps.Answered on 5/3/2012 by A Scott from New Castle, DEA:
One block, using only about three or four sections should work. I used most of two sections of one block for very short hair. One of the tips from a store sales person was to have a thick covering.Answered on 4/29/2012 by Kim from Santa Fe, NMA:
I used two out of the six blocks for my hair, which just barely brushes my shoulders. I made it ever so slightly runnier than yogurt in order to ease the application. Good luck!Answered on 4/8/2012 by The Little Jackelope from OregonA:
I would recommend purchasing one brick, and mixing as you go. You may need as few as three squares, or you may need the whole brick- this can vary greatly depending on the thickness of the hair. I always like to keep a bit extra on hand, and I mix it as I go so that I don't waste any since we do not recommend saving any Caca after it has been prepared. Since it takes the Cacas a couple of hours to develop, you can take your time while applying it, and it will not be problematic if a few extra minutes are taken to heat up a bit more of the mix.Answered on 4/2/2012 by Megan from LUSH
Q:
What type of Lush Shampoos can you use after applying caca marron? Can you use Big Shampoo? I bought both at the same time and the store lady did not mention any problem, but now I see in the website that Big is not recommended for colored hair.Asked on 3/31/2012 by Cris from New YorkKnow the answer? Answer this question

A:
When it comes to any dye, chemical or Henna, ingredients like citrus and salt can be stripping to this, so this is why we advise against using the BIG against dyed hair. Good shampoos for colored hair are the Retro liquid Ibiza Party and solid Trichomania / Gentle Lentil as none of these contain highly citric ingredients.Answered on 8/30/2012 by Anonymous
