I have never written a review about any product ever, but this product has impressed me so much, that I feel it needs to be commented on/recommended.
I purchased Coalface as a recommendation from a friend, having the same skin type (oily with a blackhead problem in nose and chin area). We both have tried out various products for blackhead removal-along with various scrub techniques which end up leaving a red and often peeling nose, so initially I was very apprehensive. I still cannot believe how well and how thoroughly it cleanses the skin without any supplementary scrubbing (I often used sponges with products). I saw immediate results-my skin was soft, smooth and blackhead free, which I haven't ever really experienced with other daily washes. The important part is to moisturise after washing out your face...
Lastly, I should mention that I really don't have acne problems or breakouts although I find Coalface ideal for my blackhead problem as well as just a daily face wash.

I use Coalface 2x a day. This soap makes great suds and I can't help but lick my lips to get a taste of the wonderful sugar in this soap that scrubs my pores ever so gently. I feel super clean! I use it on my upper chest which leaves me so smooth. Also, I use Dark Angels 3x a week as a mask and additional scrub. I love the smell, the taste and I think it is the best bar of soap ever made, I want more coal in it so I can leave it on in the shower to absorb excess oil & dirt from a long week of make-up, I would like to see a Coal Mask with no scrub for alternate days as too much scrub can be irritating even though Coalface is gentle,having said that, I just love the COALFACE & Dark Angels so I will take what I can get :)

I've been using Coalface for almost 7 years. It doesn't get any better than this stuff! I have the occasional breakout and Coalface clears it within 2 days MAX. It is very drying, so please make sure you use a moisturizer. I have oily skin, so Vanishing Cream provides a nice balance for myself.

If you have oily skin and prone to breakouts, get Coalface! I promise you will love it.

This cleanser is great! I have sensitive, combination skin and I LOVE how soft coalface makes my face feel. It doesn't irritate, but it does dry my skin out. I always immediately apply moisturizer after washing my face with this product. Overall, I would recommend this product especially to people with oily skin. It gets the job done and lasts a while! Just make sure to keep it in a massage bar tin (or in my case, a plastic bag) to make sure it doesn't just wash away.

I really wish it would do a little more with my acne problem.. I get a lot of acne and oil in my T-zones and it does make my overall quality of my skin MUCH softer and less dry, SO IMPRESSED WITH THAT. But i do still get acne sad to say... i would have hoped it would do a little more. I will be bringing this to college with me though! i do really like it!

I read several reviews about this product and was planning on buying Fresh Farmacy when I made my first trip to LUSH a few days ago. I've used a ton of washes and scrubs on my face, but this has been the best by far! It is not messy - believe me, after using a certain apricot scrub, the residue in my shower is nil by comparison. My face is ten times clearer after washing twice daily for three days using the vanishing cream after and ocean salt once. It seemed to purge and break out slightly at first but I left it alone, and it is clearing. I'm a 35 year old mom who has spent some time in the sun, I have some adult acne but it isn't over the top, not deep scars, but some discoloration. All listed above have improved since I started using this product. I'm not usually the kind of person to follow a strict schedule of face washing, but coalface has made me want to wash night and day. I will be purchasing the vanishing cream too after my sample is gone. I'm looking in to purchasing Greased Lightning to go along with this in case I need it for minor break outs!

This stuff is a godsend. I've been cursed with this oily, pimply, red skin since puberty. I tried everything, and different combinations of everything, but nothing worked on all that.
I stumbled upon Lush, and took the Coalface home. I was little peeved that I spent more than normal on soap. But the next morning, it was worth it. Even after just one use, I could tell it worked its magic. And, a pleasant surprise, it literally left my skin squeaky clean.
And my minor heart attack about the initial price was unjustified. That first one lasted me three continents, six countries and seven months.

I got a sample of this with my last order and it's awesome. I'm really picky with facial cleansers because my skin is very sensitive and just about anything can set off a breakout. Coalface is very gentle, even with the bits of charcoal for exfoliating. Normally I can't use cleansers with any kind of beads or other exfoliating agents because my skin gets so irritated, but this really works great. Leaves my skin feeling very clean and fresh. I can't say yet if it gets rid of acne because it's only been a few days, but it does immediately reduce redness and inflammation. It also does a superb job of getting rid of oil. The only downside is that it leaves my skin feeling a teensy bit dry, but I always use a moisturizer anyway so that's an easy fix. Oh, and if you're concerned about it being messy (like I was) - don't be! Looking at the bar, you'd think it would leave behind some black residue or be hard to rinse off, but it's not at all. After you lather it up it turns a white/light gray color and looks and feels just like regular soap. Great product!

I got a free sample of Coalface with a recent order. I was a little leery of the product because of the smell and that the lather was grey with particles. However, after using this for a week, I have to admit that my skin on my face is less oily and is soft, not dried. I will be buying myself this product in the very near future. Thanks LUSH!

It's just that simple. I have super oily, acne prone skin and this product has changed my life. My breakouts are now much smaller and usually isolated to that special time of the month, and my skin no longer turns into an oil slick an hour after I wash it. I've even found myself leaving the house without makeup on which I have NEVER done before. It might be irritating to people with sensitive skin, but if you have seriously stubborn oily skin that needs to be whipped into shape then Coalface is for you.

I have an extremely oily complexion and have tried everything for it and nothing has worked. I first bought Dark Angels and tried that out for about 2 weeks and I noticed a greasy film over my face after using it. I really didn't like this and decided to try out Coalface. Using Coalface alone seemed to not get my skin as clean as I wanted it to be since the lather you create is so thin so I got this great idea! I use Dark Angels and follow up with Coalface! It has made my oily skin sing! I love the combination of the two! It has done wonders for my and my blackheads and old blemish scars are vanishing fast. I couldn't ask for more from Lush. This product is, by far, the best facial cleanser I have ever come across.

After suffering from breakouts i decided to try this soap. The ingredients sound really good for your skin and I am all about good ingrediants that will help the skin. After one week of using this i saw a major diffrence in my skin. It was bright, clear, and even toned. I am of East Indian and I have to say that this evened out my skin to the point where i am not ashamed to walk around without makeup. My face is the clearest it has ever been since high school all because of this soap. I hope they never stop making it because it is my holy grail soap and i will always continue to use it.

I bought this product for the summer because my skin gets oily quite fast, especially when the cleanser I used before did nothing to help with that. It is on the expensive side but I've had my bar for nearly 2 months and I'm nowhere near done with it. It's the same size as when I bought it and I use it twice a day. I'm a girl on a budget so if you are too, don't be afraid to get this. The smell isn't bad like some people say. It just smells like something natural and organic to me. My skin does feel dry after using it but you're expected to use moisturizer. It does get rid of my makeup. As long as you lather up well, it should work. The only thing I feel it hasn't helped in is my acne, although I haven't been using any acne clearing products right now.
I do consider this a great product if you have combination/oily skin. It REALLY does what it says it does.

Coal face is great for acne-prone skin. It really cleans your face and leaves you feeling fresh and new all day. I use it in the morning and night time before i go to bed so my face is always feeling fresh and clean. It's like i'm washing my whole day away and starting out fresh and new!

This was one of the first Lush products I bought, and it totally changed the way I looked at skin care. I've always had extremely oily skin with every type of acne under the sun. I've had every kind of acne, plus blackheads and uneven skin tone since before I hit puberty, and have tried just about every acne "solution" on the market, even medication. Nothing worked until I got Coalface! Seriously!

When I first used it, it made me break out, but I knew it would as I have really sensitive skin and anything I put on it makes me break out. But it made my skin feel cleaner than ever before, and it didn't irritate/hurt my skin like other cleansers had. Within a couple of weeks all of my acne had gone away and my skin was glowing. This is the stuff of miracles, I really mean it. It was my daily cleansing bar for almost a year or two, until I found Dark Angels.

My only problem with Coalface is that it does dry out my face if I use it every day. (But if I don't use a cleanser every day I end up breaking out again, no matter what, because of how oily my skin is naturally.) So when I found Dark Angels it was another revelation - it's just like Coalface except it's much more gentle and doesn't dry out your face. If you're unsure how either of these will affect your skin type, ask for a sample, that's how I got hooked in the first place!

When I was a teen I had problem skin. Now that I am a bit older my skin does not brake out as such but I do get occasional break outs. This product has helped keep my skin from break outs. At first I did not like the scent. But after using it a few time I am starting to love it. It is very soothing on the skin.

I just bought this today but have been eyeing it online for awhile. Meanwhile, I have been using my Demon in the Dark soap to clean my face. That was doing a good job, but using this I felt an immediate difference. This is great. My face is left smooth and soft even without using moisturizer. However, this is a cleanser that is considered "rougher" on your skin. I don't quite understand why. Although there is charcoal powder that exfoliates, it is much gentler than any salt or sugar scrub you might use. I have fallen absolutely in love with this. The only other qualm I had was because it was so black and I didn't want to make a mess. I solved this problem by cutting my bar in to smaller pieces and using an old cosmetic jar lid as a holder for the used bar on my counter.

i really did not care for this cleanser at all. i have extremely oily skin and i feel like this made my skin produce more and more oil and looked terribly greasy. i also have redness so the manual exfoliation just irritated my skin so much. it was also A MESS, i learned quickly i couldn't use it over the sink without turning the whole thing black.
