It took one showering to get used to the smell and also one shower to fall in love with this shampoo. My hair is very curly and when I initially shampoo it it generally takes a while to get the tangles out.

With Sylvia I was able to lather my scalp and then my hair became very manageable very fast.

Whenever it dried my hair was volumized without frizz and was still manageable by my next shower, a rare treat.

Dear sweet mother nature, this product is amazing. It is the only product that has ever seriously made me want to "smack my mama." I used this tonight, and my hair is shiny, so so shiny and so soft and lovely. I will have to buy the full size in both this and retread immediately. I won't be able to shower without them. A true triumph. Beautiful, non-frizy, incredibly glossy, gorgeous hair.

I can not say enough good things about this product!!! I have very thick, curly, dry, frizzy hair. I have used cheap $2 shampoos and $100 shampoos and nothing seemed to help my hair. When I was in New Orleans, my boyfriend took me to Lush and the lady there recommended I try this. I've being using it for a few months now and STILL can't believe how healthy my hair feels. It doesn't completely strip my hair of moisture like other shampoos I've used, so when I step out of the shower, it still feels healthy and moisturized. And the lemon grass gives my hair a nice lemon-y smell. I noticed a difference the very first time I used it. Thank you, LUSH! I will never use anything else!

I like this shampoo very much, it seems clarifying while at the same time thickens my hair. My hair is dark chocolate brown, wavy and not processed nor do I use heat styling. This shampoo does not dry my hair out at all, smells so unique, I love it:)

I got this as a little sample and when I first used it, let me tell you, the smell was coming off very strong. I didn't like the smell at all and quickly got discouraged, but still tried to give it a chance. I'M SO GLAD I DID.
I don't know what they put into this Shampoo, but it magically made my hair seem stronger and much more healthier overnight. My hair wasn't as frizzy and bland and it was suddenly very shiny and glowing. I have NEVER seen my hair this healthy and this was only after ONE use. Yes, the smell is very different, but considering what it did to my hair, I quickly got used to the smell and now consider buying a big bottle of it. :-) GO BUY IT, you won't regret it.

I thought I found the best shampoos in Lush's solid shampoo bars, but now I am falling even more in love with their liquid shampoos! This one is perfect for my hair, which is typical straight Asian hair. I have oily roots with normal, healthy hair (no heat, color, or styling products).

When I used the shampoo bars, they cleaned really well, but I still had to wash every other day. I got this as a sample and was turned off by the smell - smells like beer, obviously. This product is supposed to make your hair sleek and "weighed down" - good for frizzy hair. Not good if you want volume. I am pretty boring in the beauty department and have only one haistyle - a ponytail. Since I am not looking for crazy amounts of volume, this was right up my alley. My hair is soft, smooth, and sleeker. My ponytail is not as frazzled looking anymore. This is also supposed to add shine, but I could not really tell a difference (my hair was already super shiny from use of other Lush hair products anyways, so I may not be the best judge of that).

As for the ony thing I do not like - the smell - it does not linger, which is good, all I can ever smell afterwards is my conditioner (Veganese or Jungle). And now I can go three days between shampooing - which is crazy! I am not sure what it is about this shampoo that keeps the oil at bay longer - I think it is gentler and less stripping than the shampoo bars, so maybe my scalp doesn't overproduce oil anymore.

If you are a minimalist kind of hair person (or have frizzy hair) - give this a go!

I LOVED this shampoo! It's not the easiest to lather, but it cleans my hair and I've never seen it this shiny before. The smell can be a bit abrasive at first, but I've come to love it, and my conditioner covers it up. I would definitely recommend this to someone with thick hair.

I love Cynthia Sylvia Stout, it smells great and it works really well on my hair. I have thick, curly hair and it's perfect- doesn't weigh my hair down and it cleans so well. I use it with Veganese, the two products smell great together.

This is absolutely fabulous shampoo. I have run the gamut from Biolage to Aveda to Brazilian Blowout to L'Occitane. This is by far the best shampoo I've ever used for my curly to frizzy dry hair and I'm 63 years old. It calms the frizz and I use Fluff Eaze also and gives me more body than I normally have. It keeps my hair looking great for two days. It has more shine than I've had in a long time. Thanks, Lush. My 25 yr old daughter introduced me to your products.

Where do I start? I love this shampoo so much. I was super hesitant after reading reviews that said it smells gross, etc... but after calling LUSH Tyson's Corner before Christmas this past year and asking their opinion for my hair type (slightly wavy if let to completely air dry, super soft, medium thickness)I felt confident that this just might be the shampoo for me... and *drum roll* it was/is! It is not a super strong stout smell, but it is very earthy and natural. It lathers wonderfully, and leaves my hair feeling super clean. After every shower I feel like woodland goddess... take a chance. BRING ON THE BEER!

I can't begin to tell you how much I love the shampoo. First off, I used this because I had a sample of it and I was stranded on a trip without my shampoo. My hair is pretty lifeless, straight, limp, and gets greasy within 24 hours, everything this shampoo is not for. I used the sample and it did wonders for my hair!! My hair has much more volume for some reason than it ever has. It's so soft and I finally can go two days without washing it! I don't know why this shampoo worked so well for me but it's a God-send. I went and got the biggest bottle they carry at the store today and I will NEVER go back to pharmacy brand shampoo ever again. This is my one and only!

I'm a year-round runner, which means I'm also a year-round sweater. Yum. My hair is perfectly straight, not too thick or thin -- the kind of hair that a headband slides right out of.
CSS doesn't help with the headband thing, but it does keep my scalp clean and healthy and my hair smooth and shiny, despite all the ponytail holder breakage and winter static.
I used to be a frequent shampoo switcher, but I like CSS well I just buy the biggest bottle and restock as needed.

I got a Lush gift card during the holidays and I thought I would try out the shampoos. The Cynthia Sylvia Stout seems to have worked really well on my long,thick, 3c/4a/4b combination hair. I was a little worried when I first put the product on my hair, I felt it was a little watery and it seemed like it needed a good shaking to get everything to mix, but it's been almost a week since I used this and my hair is still clean.I even went to a dance class, sweat a bit, and my scalp feels super clean and I can still smell the product. I would definitely recommend giving this product a try even for those of us with super coily hair.

I can see where the smell doesn't appeal to everyone. I love it, however! To be honest, it reminds me faintly of steaksauce, lol! But what it does for my hair surpasses any issues with smell, and my hair does not smell like a ribeye! The difference in my hair's health & appearance with this shampoo is very evident & I've gotten compliments from friends. Love this stuff! I have always had really thick, wavy, and frizzy hair. I would always have to wash my hair the day before if I wanted it to look nice for something but ever since I've been using this shampoo, I never have to worry about it being too frizzy or have to wait for it to go down. The waves are more defined, my hair is for once shiny, and it doesn't become frizzy anymore.

The sales associate at my local store recommended this product to me and I could not have been happier. The smell was a little disconcerting, but its something I've come to love as it REALLY helps my hair. I really wasn't a fan of the smell of this when I used it in the store, but the sales associate sold me when I told her that my frizzy, insanely curly hair was feeling dry and fluffy and I was willing to try just about anything.
I just shampooed with this for the second time today, and I already see an improvement in my hair's overall health. It's shiny, so soft and manageable, and the curls are more sculpted and tamed.
I use this with American Cream conditioner, and the smell of that completely counteracts the smell of the shampoo (so if you're not a fan of the smell, try the conditioner with it!). I will absolutley continue to repurchase this, my hair has never looked better!

I have notoriously troubled hair. One time I went to get my hair fixed at the salon and one of the stylists asked me why I never fix my hair at home. He touched my hair once and said he understood. It is thick and dry and frizzy and fluffy and flyaway and dark and scratchy. I used to say that when it rained outside my hair would grow so big it would eat people. I USED to say that because now it doesn't happen at all! I just got this product and only after one use my hair is softer and shinier and easier to manage and style! I will admit that the smell isn't the best but by following it with the Happy Happy Joy Joy conditioner that wasn't a big deal. I seriously love this product and it is perfect for people who fear that they will never be able to control their hair.

Strange but true: beer is good for your hair!

This shampoo was recommended to me for my hair type by a sales associate at my local LUSH store after I told her that I wanted a shampoo to make my thick, long hair more glossy. The cold, dry weather had been making my hair a fluffy, frizzy, flywaway mess, especially at the ends, and I wanted something to give it more weight and shine.

Enter Cynthia Sylvia Stout. I don't know how, but it does exactly what it is supposed to do, and after just one use my hair was instantly beautifully glossy with great movement.

Personally, I also found the smell to be very pleasant- more like baking bread than drinking beer- and now this shampoo, along with American Cream conditioner, R&B hair moisturizer for the ends, and, occasionally, Shine So Bright on the tips, is part of my regular hair routine.

I will definitely continue to purchase!
