How it's made
Dampen your face with warm water. Place a pea-sized piece in the palm of your hand and add water to create a paste. Apply to your face using small, circular motions. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. For rest results follow with the LUSH toner and moisturizer that best suit your skin type.

I absolitely love this product! I have horribly oily, blemish prone skin. If I miss a day of washing my face, the pores on my nose clog up into blackhead so horrible they have been mistaken for freckles. This product, paired with a few others, have litterally saved my skin and given me actual confidence for the first time in my life.
When I first started shopping at Lush, my big problem was acne-ridden, oily skin and hair. Seanik took care of my hair, and all that was left was my face. I don't have very sensetive skin, so i was willing to try nearly anything. I walked into the store, and I asked a sales associate about what to do. She directed me to three products; Mask of Magnaminty, Grease Lightning, and Dark Angels. I bought twelve dollars worth, and let me just say it has been a great purchase. This cleanser not only soaks up the excess oils in my skin, but it got rid of my worst blackheads! And me being a person who would spend hours in front of a mirror trying to squeeze one blackhead out, this was a miracle. I have scarred my skin before from squeezing, and this product has stopped any more of that. It has nearly fixed my acne by itself, and when paired with Grease Lightning and Mask of Magnaminty, it has made a huge, and I mean HUGE difference! I was finally able to stop putting the acid cream on my face that the dermatologist gave me, and since then, my skin has been beautiful, soft, and radiant!

I tried a sample of Dark Angels and it was not a good experience. I have very light skin, and I followed the instructions for use (I use Angels on Bare Skin all the time, so I already knew how to use it), but when I tried to wash it off it left a lot of black residue all over my face. It even stained my eyebrows black! I was horrified. I washed my face all over again with Angels on Bare Skin and some of it came off. So I washed AGAIN with AoBS and finally, the black residue was gone. My skin was crazy soft and clean, but I don't know if that was from using Dark Angels or because I washed it with an exfoliator 3 times in a row. Anyway, I cannot recommend Dark Angels to anyone with fair skin. I won't be using it again. So glad I tried a sample before I bought it!

I am so happy that I found this product! It helped clear up my skin so much! It also helped get rid of the greasy oil that was always on my skin. I must admit, I had a few breakouts at first but overall, it was great. My mom decided to buy me a really expensive facial cleanser brush so I stopped using it, and my breakouts are back AGAIN! Don't look elsewhere this is the best product for oily, acne prone skin. I wish I had just used this without stopping, I know my skin would be a lot better. For those complaining that it "stains" the skin, just use some toner to remove excess. This is a MUST BUY.

Originally I had herbalism recommended to me. After trying the sample I decided I wasn't satisfied with how herbalism babied my face. I wasn't seeing much of a result.
Dark Angels caught my eye in store because of the unique black color and the name. I decided to just go for it and buy a container. It was so worth it.
When I bought the scrub I had just suffered a bad acne breakout at my jawline. A week later, using this scrub (along with a few other products) the acne had almost completely healed over without much fuss. The scrub also brightened up my skin to the point where I was convinced that my eyes had actually changed color.
The scrub is a lot of fun, it goes on black - which is really unusual for a face product!- and it's a little bit gritty, which I don't mind. Sometimes it's fun to feel the product working.

I got this product after my second time shopping at lush and let me tell you, this product has turned me into a complete lushie. I love lush and I love dark angels. I have oily skin. REALLY OILY SKIN, and especially since I live in the hottest state, my face gets oily the second I walk outside, but ever since I got dark angels my face is not as oily as it use to be. I use dark angels with grease lightning and enzymic and wow I just fell in love. One morning I woke up after using it at night and I usually wake up with my face oily and feeling the need to wash my face, but wow I woke up and my face felt like I already washed it . It just felt refreshed . Other than controlling my oily skin, I have noticed a huge difference in my skin appearance as well. My acne has gone down tremendously and I'm pretty sure I am 80% almost acne free. I suffered from acne and having really oily skin and I can honestly tell you that this product is amazing. I was using herbalism before, but after a while that was too gentle and not removing all the oil on my skin. Dark angels is the perfect replacement!
I have combination skin, and my Tzone is always greasy when I wake up. I use dark angels every morning, and it removes all the extra oil on my face without every drying me out or making my skin feel tight.
It has a very unique scent - not fruity or floral or perfumed at all - that I love. It smells like black licorice to me.
I love spending ten minutes every morning rubbing this into my skin. The scrubby bits are gentle but exfoliating, and the clay feels really nice and gets rid of the dirt and oil. It doesn't leave a black film on your face or anything like that, it washes off fine.
That said, Lush's scrubs in general are quite messy - you're definitely going to get some in and around your sink. And although this scrub works beautifully and I love using it, it isn't the kind of cleanser that you can slap on and splash off, you do need a couple minutes to really rub it into your skin and wash off. That, and the messy factor are the only reasons this isn't a perfect 5.
All in all, works perfect for me, love the smell, a little messy/time consuming, but I would definitely rebuy!

I really adore this product all around. I have never had problems with my face until I started college two years ago, I have tried everything, I mean EVERYTHING. From accutane, to prescription topical creams. When those all failed I said enough drugs, I should try something natural. So I ordered this online not too long ago, it shipped in less than a week and a day before my birthday. It was wonderful. I used it right away and already felt a difference. This is the best face cleanser I've ever used - And I've gone through a lot of them. I have a black head problem and it's significantly gotten better since I started using Dark Angels. It exfoliates well but isn't too rough on my sensitive skin.
I don;t find it to be too messy. I gues it depends on how thick of a paste you make it.
I recommend using the Breath of Fresh Air Toner afterwards.

I use this cleanser at least twice a week (sometimes more often). I usually use it in the shower for easy clean up because it can get a little bit on the messy side washing by sink. After I cleanse with Dark Angels, I spray my toner directly to my face and before it's completely dry, I use a little fingertip dab of moisturizer.
I've been using Dark Angels for a long time and it makes my skin really soft - sometimes I can't stop touching my face! It's gentle enough so it doesn't dry out my skin (no oil slicks!) and it smells wonderful.
Going back to Lush to get more of this cleanser, I've given other products a try. I've used the other products with my Dark Angels in a routine for the past two months now and I've noticed an amazing change in my skin.

I have combination skin that gets very dry in the winter. My skin has always been very clear naturally (lucky me) but lately I've had some uneven tones/hyperpigmentation and a few zits, and cold weather is never kind to it. My skin has basically been flawless since I started using Dark Angels. It feels amazing to massage into my face and I no longer have greasy buildup around my nose, and my problem dry areas like between my eyebrows aren't flaky anymore. I have had the problem that other users describe with some black/gray streaks on my face after my shower, but it comes off with a cold washcloth. I use in the shower, an almond-sized amount between my thumb and forefinger mixed with some water. Though I'm used to having good skin, I had no idea it could feel this awesome. I don't think I can ever go back to a drugstore cleanser. Love it.

I used this product for about two months, before it expired. And in those two months my skin was glowing, soft, and i didn't get many pimples at all. Just one here or there. It was a great, natural cleanser and exfoliator! But i noticed that my sink was taking more time to drain and so was my shower, on top of both things turning grey and getting little bits of black sugar and charcoal everywhere. The little sugar and charcoal bits ended up clogged my drains so bad that i had to get my plumber friend to come and unclog it! Good thing he's my friend and he didn't charge me! But the saddest part is how much i loved the cleanser itself! Its a great product just not worth the mess and stress it gave me! RIP Dark Angels :(

I've had problematic skin ever since the 6th grade. Now I'm almost graduating high school and I was getting desperate. I wanted to clear my face of blemishes and just fix all skin problems. I have combination, extremely sensitive, acne-prone skin. I've tried almost everything to try to help my skin but it barely helped. So, I tried natural ways (aka Lush). And I'm SO glad!
My mom recommended me to get Dark Angels because coal helps tremendously for oil and dirt. I got it and it's wonderful. Although the cleanser seems more like a scrub. It is not as "soft" as it claims to be. It's actually very rough and gritty. However,it does not irritate my skin at all! It actually leaves it super soft and calm. I've been using it for only a FEW DAYS (with Lightning Grease and Tea Tree Toner) and my acne is almost all gone. Literally, all my skin problems are being fixed! My redness is gone, my acne is gone, my oil is gone... My skin feels heavenly!
I'm so glad I converted to Lush. I'm never going back to harsh drugstore products! Never again! Lush cured my 6 years of acne in only 3 days (and made my skin glow). I believe that says something.
A side tip I could like to include is when you're washing the cleanser, rinse thoroughly with warm water. The cleanser tends to be stubborn and cling on your skin if you try to rinse it quick with cold water. So always rinse with warm water and take your time! Then, it comes off like a charm.

Next to Lemony Flutter, Dark Angels is my FAVORITE Lush product! I've had the same 3.5oz pot since April and 6 months later am needing to order a new batch! What I love about this product(and really all Lush products) is a little goes such a long way. Lush items can be on the pricier side but they last so much longer than cheaper products. My face is so much clearer when I use DA and I notice a big difference when I don't. I love the texture, it exfoliates my skin just the right amount. The only downside is POSSIBLY the smell. i have vary sensitive skin, it breaks out almost with everything that touches it. Dark Angels not only manages my break outs but its exfoliates the skin making it even and glowing. Now this is vary messy. what i do is i take a pea size chunk in the palm of my hand and add water to it and mix using my fingers of my other hand while still in my palm, whats great about this is you can decide for yourself how gentle or rough you want the exfoliation to be. Alot of water for gentle, less water for rough. when i have the mixture in my hand i put in on my face as if it were a mask using my free hand then i turn on the faucet and dip my fingers under it and go in small circular motions with little or lot of pressure in problem areas while going back and forth to the faucet making sure my fingers stay moist while massaging then i was it off. This method does leave my sink black and if i wanted to not deal with the mess it would be more better to use in the shower but i find my method effective. Sometimes i do leave it on my face for a couple minutes after the messaging because with masks and micro-exfoliants ect to achieve the best results you leave it on, but with cleansers you wash it off immediately and have to continuously use it to get the results.. so once in awhile leave it on for a couple minutes and see what you think :P

Yes, this product is amazing. I had really dry patches of skin on my cheeks and they are gone! This has also cleared my skin and tiny flesh colored bumps on my forehead. I recommend you use it with the tea tree water toner and imperialis moisturizer. Imperialis is a very light moisturizer and you cannot feel it on your skin but you can definitely see some results. I wold say yes, but maybe only use it once or twice a week. Since you say your skin isn't that oily you wouldn't want to use it daily.
To the 2nd part about using it in combination with other products I wouldn't know the answer because I only use dark angels.

So combination skin? I have combo skin and I've used this with success. It controlled my oil and helped my blemishes, and the exfoliation is really nice and not too harsh. However, you should probably get a sample before committing to the full product, just in case your skin doesn't like something in it.

I don't know if it really helps with acne, but it will control the oil on your face. If you'd like, I'm sure you can mix it with your favorite moisturizer or simply just use it right after. But alone works perfectly fine. All you do is take a small chunk like the size of two marbles will do and add a small droplets of water until it makes a paste. The lovely absorbent ingredients that make Dark Angels so great for oily skin are balanced out with nourishing rhassoul mud and avocado, so most of us can use it on a daily basis without "overdoing" it. Well, it all depends. I don't have sensetive skin at all, and so every night is fine for me. But if your skin isnt that hardy, every other day might work best.
