I absolitely love this product! I have horribly oily, blemish prone skin. If I miss a day of washing my face, the pores on my nose clog up into blackhead so horrible they have been mistaken for freckles. This product, paired with a few others, have litterally saved my skin and given me actual confidence for the first time in my life.
When I first started shopping at Lush, my big problem was acne-ridden, oily skin and hair. Seanik took care of my hair, and all that was left was my face. I don't have very sensetive skin, so i was willing to try nearly anything. I walked into the store, and I asked a sales associate about what to do. She directed me to three products; Mask of Magnaminty, Grease Lightning, and Dark Angels. I bought twelve dollars worth, and let me just say it has been a great purchase. This cleanser not only soaks up the excess oils in my skin, but it got rid of my worst blackheads! And me being a person who would spend hours in front of a mirror trying to squeeze one blackhead out, this was a miracle. I have scarred my skin before from squeezing, and this product has stopped any more of that. It has nearly fixed my acne by itself, and when paired with Grease Lightning and Mask of Magnaminty, it has made a huge, and I mean HUGE difference! I was finally able to stop putting the acid cream on my face that the dermatologist gave me, and since then, my skin has been beautiful, soft, and radiant!

I really wanted to love this product.
I'm an exfoliant junkie, and after reading reviews of Dark Angels online, I could not wait to try it.
I have used it once or twice a week for about a month now. I find the scent to be pleasant, I like the texture of the product, and its not too drying for me.
It is, however, messy. To the point where I don't want to use it anymore. If I use it in the shower, I then have to scrub the shower out when I'm done (or leave the black-grey residue all over the bottom of my bathtub). Same goes for use at my bathroom sink. After I'm done, its almost as bad as a man having and leaving his hair in the sink.. and for whatever reason, the residue clings to my sink, so a simple rinse will not wash it away; it needs to be scrubbed off.
Unfortunately, the same thing happens with my face. I think it does a good job of exfoliating my skin, and I actually really like Dark Angels as an exfoliating cleanser. That is until I try to rinse it off, anyway. The product also clings to my skin, and because it is black in color and I'm very fair, its stains my skin grey and I look like I've got a 5 o'clock shadow. Its embarrassing and makes me very hesitant to continue using the product. And, as others have mentioned, it also stains your nails black.
I will not buy this again, and I'm not even sure I'll use the rest of the cleanser that is in the container, which is a shame.

Cons

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I use this product at night since it leaves residue. I have tried everything under the sun to clear my acne and this is the only thing that keeps working after prolonged use! I'm so very in love with this product that the residue doesn't bother me, I usually use a toner to clean it off. definetly one of my favorites!

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I use this product daily, or when i have Herbalism i use it every other week. I love this product because it makes my face feel clean and although it leaves some black stain on your face, you just need to rub your face lightly with a towel and it comes right off! My skin has its ups and downs but it seems to be clearer and less oily with this product!

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I use this first thing in the morning and before I go to bed. Small pea size amount with warm water and scrub gently into my skin. It has a citrus/black licorice type scent, which is divine compared to the hundreds of other "name brand" acne treatments I have used and will never use again. It rinses fairly well but does leave a bit of the black charcoal color on my skin if I don't rinse a lot and use the Eau Roma Water toner afterwards. My skin is left feeling clean and fresh :)

THE DREAM TEAM
Pros
Cons

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
This new Routine I've been doing for the past 3 weeks works wonders for my PREVIOUSLY: Oily, Hyperpigmented, and Occasional Acne Face! Weeks ago I was in search for something Natural that would help me deal with oily skin. I always heard a little oil is good for the skin, but mine was too much. Lush was a product I always wanted to try, but wanted to try it in person, so when I discovered a new Store in a Mall I frequent, I almost passed out with delight. So the Associate first introduced me to Dark Angels. Yes its a tough job to use, but I love to do it! 1st use, and my skin felt so soft and exfoliated after rinsing.I use this with Tea Tree Water, and Enzymion for moisture. These 3 products have now lightened the acne scars, and toned down the oil a lot! Great thing is I only do this a few times a week to pamper my skin. I apply Dark Angels, leave it on for a few minutes (in that time I feel it working its magic)! Then rinse. Hey it works for me! Try it!!

I really wanted to like it, but...
Pros
- Exfoliating
Cons
- Can Feel Too Harsh
- Leaves residue
- Messy
- Stains skin
Best Uses
- Oily skin
Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I really wanted to like this product. I like that it exfoliates, although sometimes it can be a bit harsh. It's made my oily spots less oily, which is good, but other than that that's about all that's good about it.
Now the bad stuff. It's very messy. I use it in my shower mostly and it leaves black stains everywhere. Most of the time I can just rinse it off, but sometimes it has to be scrubbed away with soap and water. When I use the sink, I can't just rinse it away, it has to be scrubbed out. It also leaves black residue on my skin. It won't come off unless I use soap to get it off which kind of defeats the purpose of using this product.

Great on skin, but doesn't wash off easy
Pros
- Absorbs oil
- Doesn't dry out your skin
- Exfoliates
- Great for sensitive skin
Cons
- Doesn't wash off well
- Need A Cloth To Remove
Best Uses
Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I've been using this product for a month but sadly I don't think I will purchase it again once I've used it up. It really does leave my skin feeling great, it cleanses and exfoliates without over drying or irritating my skin. Its main downfall is that it doesn't wash off. I like to wash my face in the shower in the morning and I don't have a mirror in their. I always have a wash cloth handy and when I finish I always think I got it all off until I dry off and look in the mirror. It takes about ten minutes of continued scrubbing to remove, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a face wash thats gentle, because this irritates my skin a lot and leaves me all red. I really wanted to like this product, but I will not be getting it again.

Great exfoliant

Cons
- Smells Bad
Best Uses
Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
Great exfoliant, and leaves my face super clean and soft. I have had no problems at all with it staining my face or any counter tops - it is pretty messy, but as long as you rinse your face well/clean off any surfaces it might have gotten on, there are no problems! I originally didn't like the smell at all (it reminded me of black licorice), but as I have used it more I have stopped noticing it. The smell doesn't last long at all, so even if you don't like it there's not much to worry about there! Also, it lasts forever. I got the smallest jar, and after a month of almost daily use I have barely made a dent in it.

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
This product is amazing. I'm a face wash junkie, always on the look for something that will make my skin clear and even. I saw this in a pin n Pintrest and ordered it thinking, "What's the worst that could happen?". I've been using it for a few months now and I've only had one pimple since starting using it. It's absolutely incredible!!!! I have suggested this to all of my friends with oily and acne prone skin without hesitation.

Pros
Cons
- Doesn't Help Oily Skin

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I was so excited to try this product. I went to my local Lush store and looked for this product after reading so many great reviews. I used it exactly as you are supposed to and yes it does leave a mess but I was willing to overlook that if it really worked. I noticed that even within the first week it did nothing to help control the oil. I have very oily skin, regardless of if I am wearing makeup or not. I went ahead and kept using it until it was gone, and nothing. Unfortunately if you have oily skin it won't do anything to control it, it just really cleanses your skin which I liked. But when I bought this expensive product with the purpose of oil control, I was disappointed. Don't waste that much money on this if you are looking for oil control.

Obsessed after using a sample!
Pros
- Blemish Buster
- Exfoliating
- fun
Cons
Best Uses
- Daily Cleanser
- Daily Exfoliator
Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I received a sample of this the first day our new local Lush opened. I used the sample for 4 days and WOW, what a noticeable difference it made to my skin. I am 30 with oily skin that had been especially more problematic since my mid to late twenties. Even with facials, expensive brand name cleansers and medications, I still had blackheads and breakouts. As soon as I started using Dark Angels, I could see it bringing all of my deep down dirt to the surface and my face starting to clear. Needless to say, as soon as my sample was gone, I was back in the store purchasing. If only I had known about this 15 years ago! I am obsessed and so thankful the sales girl recommended!

Greatly Effective but Messy
Pros
- Deep clean
- Moisturizing
- Smoothing
Cons
- Messy
- Not for Dry Skin
- Residue
Best Uses
- Blemishes
- Oily skin
Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
Dark Angels is not for the faint of heart or for those who don't need a deep cleansing. If you have normal or dry skin, I don't recommend this because I have noticed the black residue sticks to my dry spots but easily rinses off my oily spots. So I always use the Breath of Fresh Air Toner on a cotton pad to clean off the residue.
That being said, it really does wonders for blemishes and imperfections! It acts like a scrub, and also leaves smooth, moisturized skin all over. The first few times you use it, you may notice more red spots rising to the surface by the end of the day. That seems to clear up by the 4th day, and then it works great! It is cleaning up your pores, drawing out impurities, even the deep stuff that hasn't "shown" up to the eye yet. So don't freak out if you get worse at first! It clears up, but if it doesn't after a week for you, it may be too harsh on your skin causing you more irritation. I recommend you try it if you have blemishes with oily skin, it will hopefully do wonders for you!

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I love this. The clean feeling is so deep. Works really well. My skin is very fair so I have to check carefully before leaving because it leaves a black residue sometimes (it comes off with water and washcloth). The sscent isn't fabulous but certainly preferable to acne and greasy skin.

Love at First Wash
Pros
- Clears pores
- Exfoliates
- Smells Good
Cons
Best Uses
Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
Since I turned 12, I have been battling acne and trying just about everything under the sun-- including a short stint with harsh acne-fighting medications. As an adult I still have breakouts, clogged pores, and the same oily skin I had when I was 12. After reading the reviews of Dark Angels, I was really hesitant that I'd be standing over my sink with the black cleanser everywhere, using a scrub brush and bleach to get it out of my sink, and an additional cleanser to mop up excess oil (thanks a lot, previous reviewers for being terribly dramatic).
I went to my local Lush store, and as wonderful as they always are I got a sample of Dark Angels. The first time I washed my face with it, it felt completely different from other washes; my face was smooth and there was just enough "oil" in the cleanser to prevent my face from feeling stripped completely, but not so much that it felt shiny or as though my pores were clogged. Cleanup: not a problem. This is not that messy of a product-- it's a powdered cleanser... there should be no surprise whatsoever that this is a little unlike cleanser that comes out of a bottle.
I literally have no "cons" with this product; for very sensitive skin (mine is toeing the line) it's probably better to just use this a few times a week rather than every day, and the smell could potentially be off-putting (one of the Lush masks took me awhile to get used to the dirty lake water smell... but it does amazing things for my face!).
Love, love, love this product. If you're not sure, test it out before you spend $30 on something you're not sure you're going to love!

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
i have been using this scrubbing cleanser for about 6 months now and it's a must if you have oily skin that can also be sensitive. it's got a nice scrubby feeling but is not super harsh. it does not make my skin overproduce oil after use which is heaven sent. it is a bit messy so i use it in the shower. it can also leave residue so it takes a bit of extra rinsing, but its worth the trouble.

Absolutely Amazing
Pros
Cons
Best Uses
Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
This is an amazing product- I used it back in 2009 and 2010 when I lived in Fort Myers, Fl. I moved to Toledo, Oh in 2010 and I had to stop getting Lush products- I didn't want to pay the shipping and handling or drive over to Cleveland. So, I tried to make do with just soap and exfoliaters for the past few years.
My skin returned to it's absolute worst within two years of not using this product.
I have terrible skin and it is by far the thing I hate most about my apperance. I have always had troublesome skin and this product is a miracle worker.
I have oily and sensitive skin which causes terrible redness and pain when I use exfoliaters- but when I do not, my skin never seems to be clean. I would get blackheads and pimples and there was nothing I could do that would help. I used teatree oil and masks that I could get over the counter- but nothing- NOTHING comes close to Dark Angels.
I was fed up with dealing with my skin this past week. I've had a lot of things going on and my skin has progressively been getting worse and worse. I gave in and bought this product (and a few others because I could not resist) on Sunday.
I received my products in the mail yesterday and I used Dark Angels this afternoon in the shower. My face is just gorgeous right now. My skin hasn't felt this clean in months. My pores are minimized and a few larger blemishes have lost their redness and size. It's truly a miracle product and worth every penny that I spent on it.
I wanted to take the time to write this review because I think people really need to understand that while this product may not be for everyone, it certainly is EVERYTHING to some people.
And it honestly is not that messy if you wipe down your shower every time you get out. Just quickly with the towel you used to dry off. And just as the money was worth it, so is the thirty seconds I spend wiping down my shower.
I hope this has helped you make your decision. This product makes my life so much better. I am never ashamed or embarrassed by acne or blackheads or uneven skin tone when I use Dark Angels- and that really means everything to my self-esteem.
All my thanks for glowing skin goes out to the creators of this product at Lush.

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I have had horrible acne my whole life and nothing has worked--until now! I use this product morning and night, followed by Lush's Greased Lightning. I've been using this product for about two weeks now and my face has never looked/felt better! I feel confident and beautiful, and no longer feel the need to put on make up every time I leave the house! This product can get a little messy but as long as you're careful and don't splash everywhere (or just use it in the shower), you should be fine. I looove the feel and smell of this product and would absolutely recommend it to everyone with any skin type (as I have combination skin). LOVE LOVE LOVE

Exfoliates like a microdermabrasion gel
Pros
- Balancing
- Exfoliating
Cons
- Leaves residue
- Messy
Best Uses
- Acne
- Blemish prone skin
- Flaky Skin
Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
I use this product 2-4x week to exfoliate my face and décolleté. I have oily, spot-prone skin that is also very flaky; the dead skin cells congest my pores and give me blemishes and blackheads if I don't exfoliate frequently. Using Dark Angels helps keep my skin clear and smooth in a way I've never experienced. I have been looking for an exfoliator which actually EXFOLIATES- things like ground almonds or microbeads just don't work on my skin. In the past, the only products which would exfoliate my skin correctly were expensive, chemical-laden microdermabrasion gels. Dark Angels trumps these products by being natural and superior where it comes to exfoliation.
The only things I don't like about Dark Angels is it leaves an oily residue on my skin, which if I don't wash away, will encourage blemishes. It can also make my skin temporarily reddened. To combat this, I wash afterward with Fresh Farmacy or Aqua Marina, then use a toner to further calm my skin.

Comments about Dark Angels Cleanser:
This is a great product, but it left an unsightly black residue all over my face. I used it for a week straight, using a little soap to get the black off and my acne was gone! I was so impressed. I'm probably going to buy one without the charcoal because it's a pain to have to worry about having black smudges on my face in the shower. It's also super messy.

I recommend you use it with the tea tree water toner and imperialis moisturizer. Imperialis is a very light moisturizer and you cannot feel it on your skin but you can definitely see some results. Hope this helps(:Answered on 6/14/2012 by Annie the beauty junkie from Tampa Bay, FlA:

So combination skin? I have combo skin and I've used this with success. It controlled my oil and helped my blemishes, and the exfoliation is really nice and not too harsh. However, you should probably get a sample before committing to the full product, just in case your skin doesn't like something in it.
You probably need a toner to remove any residue it leaves behind, and a moisturizer to prevent your skin from drying out further or compensating with oil.Answered on 4/18/2012 by Vi from MSA:
I think this product would work great for you. I have combo skin, oily during the day but really tight and dry if I use too harsh of a cleanser. This one contains natural oils that I feel balance out my skin and don't leave it feeling dry.Answered on 5/6/2012 by Danielle S from Rochester, NYA:
YES! I love it and I am only combo. I use it with the tea tree water and the enzymion moisturizer. The trio completely changed my skin in an amazing way to be quite honest.Answered on 5/8/2012 by LUSHLOVE from Fresno, CAA:
I don't recommend this product. It was very harsh for my skin and it is pretty oily. Try Angels on Bare Skin it is gentler. Hope this helped :)Answered on 5/11/2012 by LushJunkie from Houston,TxA:
I wold say yes, but maybe only use it once or twice a week. Since you say your skin isn't that oily you wouldn't want to use it daily.
To the 2nd part about using it in combination with other products I wouldn't know the answer because I only use dark angels.
Hope this helps you out.Answered on 6/2/2012 by Emmy from Roswell,GA
Q:
I'm thinking about buying this. How should I use it? My skin is oily. I have acne on my face and chest. How do I use it? Should I mix it with other products? If so, how?Asked on 4/2/2012 by K.C.B. from New York, NYKnow the answer? Answer this question

We recommend to use the Dark Angels- to first dampen your face with warm water. Next, place a pea-sized chunk in the palm of your hand and add water to create a paste. Gently apply it to your face using small, circular motions, as it will be very scrubby. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. For best results follow with the LUSH toner and moisturizer that best suit your individual skin needs. For acne-prone skins, I'd suggest looking into the Tea Tree Water and the Enzymion or Vanishing Cream moisturizers.Answered on 4/3/2012 by Megan from LUSHA:
Sounds like we have similar conditions, I would recommend herbalism first I tried this and didn't like it too rough and messy, some like that though, I use herbalism in conjunction with grease lighting(the best!) and mud flats soap on chest and back, my skin has never be clearer! Best wishes on your experience!Answered on 4/4/2012 by Lindz from AZA:
I don't know if it really helps with acne, but it will control the oil on your face. If you'd like, I'm sure you can mix it with your favorite moisturizer or simply just use it right after. But alone works perfectly fine. All you do is take a small chunk like the size of two marbles will do and add a small droplets of water until it makes a paste. Then you're good to go and put it on your face! Enjoy (:Answered on 4/6/2012 by Karuyen from San Jose, CA

You use this product once or twice per week, according to the instructional video.Answered on 3/5/2012 by Community Answer from NoneA:
Well, it all depends. I don't have sensetive skin at all, and so every night is fine for me. But if your skin isnt that hardy, every other day might work best. If you really want to use it every day, make the paste more watery. This will tone down the abrasion just a hint, so that you can use it more often.Answered on 3/13/2012 by Tim from VirginiaA:
I use it every morning, sometimes day and night. If you find it dries you out, just use once a day.Answered on 3/24/2012 by Cookie from Dallas, TXA:
The lovely absorbent ingredients that make Dark Angels so great for oily skin are balanced out with nourishing rhassoul mud and avocado, so most of us can use it on a daily basis without "overdoing" it. If you do find that your skin is feeling a bit dry from using it that frequently, it might be a good idea to use it a little less often, and perhaps introduce something more gentle in between!Answered on 8/30/2012 by Brandy from LUSH
