How to use How it's made Inventors stories
Wet both hair and the shampoo bar. Glide the shampoo bar down the length of your hair about three times (right, left and back). Work into a lather and rinse thoroughly. Follow with LUSH conditioner if needed. Keep your solid shampoo in a cool, dry place between uses; we recommend using a LUSH shampoo bar tin.

This is the BEST shampoo/conditioner I have ever used!! It leaves my hair smelling so good, and it is so soft and silky! It doesn't have the added silicone in it, so it doesn't have that sleeky feel when you rinse it out, but believe me, it is very easy to get a comb through my wet hair, my hair is very long and also color treated, and even though there is sulfate in it, this shampoo has not hurt or stripped my color!! No need to use a conditioner with this one. I use it at night, comb it out, then go to sleep with wet hair, in the morning it is so silky and soft, and a breeze to flat iron straight!!

This shampoo melts. It turns into a big congealed lump. There's chunks of conditioner in it, and the shampoo gets used up a lot faster than the conditioner does. By the time I got to the end of the bar, I felt like I was washing my hair with chunks of conditioner stuck together with shampoo.

The plus side of its meltyness was that when it got stuck to the bottom of my shampoo tin, I could scoop out the melted bits of shampoo with my finger and not try to pry the lump out of the tin.

It smells good, and it was very effective in cleaning my hair, but I don't think I'll buy it again because it was so difficult to use.

Comments about Godiva Solid Shampoo:

I have a lot of hair. My hair is well below my shoulders and looks very thick (but shorter) when it is down because it corkscrews in big, finger-sized curls - as long as I don't brush it or comb it too much. Put it in a ponytail or a bun, and the real story starts to come out. In reality, it is very fine, very wavy/curly, extremely dry, and prone to flyaway frizz, especially on hot humid days.
I used to be a wash-and-go kind of girl, but the older I get, the wilder, curlier, and drier my hair has become. It was time to Do-Something-About-It.
Quite recently, I discovered Lush products. I ordered Godiva Shampoo, Okra Conditioner, and Dirty Hair Cream, all of which have helped tame the mane that nothing has really helped in the last several years.
Godiva Shampoo is sinfully rich, and smells like heaven: I want to bathe in it! (Hint, hint!) My hair was soft and fragrant after using it. I doubt I'll ever use anything else to wash my hair.
Okra Conditioner was a great success. Some people say they don't like the smell; I didn't either the first time I used it, but the results were so amazing that I kept with it. The second time, I really loved the earthy, spicy smell. I have used it as a leave-in conditioner twice. It left my hair very soft and no longer feeling quite so much like old straw.
Dirty Hair Cream helped me handle the flyaway frizz, but it is a bit too stiff for my very fine hair. It works well, if I only use microscopic amounts on the very top surface.
Next paycheck, I ordered more Lushness. Yesterday, the new order arrived with R&B, and Retread Conditioner.
Retread is amazing. I shampooed with Godiva, and then sectioned my hair, generously applying Retread to each section before I twisted and clipped it up. I left it in for at least 30 minutes – maybe 45 - rinsed it out, and towel dried it. It felt like... hair. Not brittle straw. I don't ever remember my hair feeling like this before. Well, maybe when I was in grade school. Maybe.
Then I started in with the R & B. My hair soaked it up even though it was still damp. When it dried, it looked mah-vel-ous. When it starts to look like it might think about frizzing or flying away, a little dab of R&B scrunched in, and my corkscrew curls settle down and behave.
I think I've finally found the perfect combo for my hair: Godiva Shampoo, Okra or Retread Conditioner, and R&B. Maybe a soupçon of Dirty Hair Cream on those extra humid, extra hot Central Texas summer days.
The ONLY thing I don't like about these Lush products is the small size of the containers. It's easy to go through a fair amount of product with the amount of hair I have - and it's not even down to my waist any more!
Thanks Lush, your products are a godsend!

    Comments about Godiva Solid Shampoo:

I was highly skeptical about a solid shampoo. I bought this last week and I am obsessed with it. It smells beautiful, lathers brilliantly, and does not dry my chemically abused hair out (with no need to use conditioner!) I will absolutely continue to use this product, it is a must have. An excellent recommendation from the staff at lush.

      Comments about Godiva Solid Shampoo:

If you don't like this, you're probably not using it right! The first time I used this, I was taken by the smell but loathed the results I had once my hair was dry, it was not well moisturized, frizzy, and tangly. I had just lathered up like usually and immediately washed it out, and followed it up with Jungle.

However! To get the luscious, shiny, moisturized locks the description promises, what you have to do is lather the Godiva in the roots of your hair and work the lather down to the end and LEAVE IT IN for a few minutes, I usually do at least 5. And WOW! My hair looks amazing now! I have fine, wavy hair that is on the drier side and used to always need intense conditioners, but now all I need is Godiva! I don't even use Jungle with it anymore (though ladies with thicker hair might benefit from this)! I have found that when I use this method, my hair is a breeze to comb out afterwards, even if I forget to pre-comb hair before my shower.

All I do after my shower is lightly scrunch-dry hair in a t-shirt for a minute to get excess water out, then comb, and let it air dry, occasionally scrunching hair with fingers just to make sure my waves form properly (as I know have LONG wavy hair and gravity tends to pull them out a bit, they need some encouragement haha)

And voila! Sexy smelling sexy, glossy waves! No dryness! It's my savior! I never would have thought I would be a one product girl, but here I am boasting :)

Wanted to try my first ever Shampoo Bar. The associate told me Godiva is very popular. She told me how to use it and I took it home. I got in the shower and I wet my hair. I had lather for days. I cleansed my hair and I rinsed it. My hair felt clean but it seemed dry eventhough it was wet. My hair seems dry all the time. I won't say it doesn't work but maybe my hair does not agree with it. The smell is heavenly. For those who said it did not smell good. I'd rather my hair smell flowery than funky. I will give it one more try.

I hadn't tried the solid shampoo from Lush before and picked up a bar of Godiva during my last trip with a friend who LOVES the solid shampoos. I. Love. It. I have thick hair and was worried that swiping it only a few times wouldn't produce enough lather but I do it about 3 times on the top of my hair and then lift my hair and do one swipe across the bottom layer just to make sure I get it all. Lathers wonderfully (and when it doesn't want to, I just add a little more water to my hair). It doesn't weigh my hair down or leave a funky feel to it. I don't feel dried out after using it and LOVE the smell. I'm leaving for 3 weeks in Europe soon and wanted to find a shampoo that will last AND make it through security.

Product didn't condition my medium/long length hair at all and I ended up pulling out lots of hair while trying to comb it out after washing. The fragrance was too floral for my taste, too.

This is the first shampoo I have tried with LUSH. I was fed up with my hair because it is very damaged from color and long and was getting very tangled every time I took a shower. Even though this shampoo is not for tangled hair is really has helped mine get healthier and less tangled. It smells amazing and the smell stays in my hair even until my next shower! I look forward to trying more of lushes shampoos!

I bought this because I'm traveling to Europe this summer and didn't want to deal with bottles of shampoo and conditioner. I tried the product out at home and I loved it. It lathered really really well, which surprised me because I have very thick hair. It also smelled amazing and the smell lasted in my hair all day. My hair felt very clean after using it, but not dried out. I didn't use conditioner with the shampoo bar and my hair was fine.

I really liked the smell of this shampoo, but don't feel like it delivered it's job as a shampoo, especially as one for damaged hair. I was also told by an employee that these are supposed to last 13 months, and mine lasted about 3. When using the shampoo, my hair felt uncharacteristcly dry, crunchy, and tangly. I was so scared, it felt like it was drying my hair out. I rinsed and let it dry and it didn't feel the same but it is definitely not enjoyable to use. Also there were some strange bits in it that made me feel like it was inconsistent throughout the time I used it. It did not add any moisture either, it felt like it dried my hair out if anything. I also would not recommend this for color treated hair. I love you lush, your stuff ALWAYS smells good, but that's not enough. I will stick to liquid shampoo. Lush, hair is just not your thing.

As a shampoo, it cleans & lathers very well, smells amazing, and gives my hair some good shine. The conditioning element isn't quite as strong as I'd like it to be, and avoid using it on the ends of my hair so it won't frizz it up. I wouldn't call it a 2-in-1 with the way it works on my hair, but as a shampoo it's fine.

My only real complaint is that the smell doesn't stay in my hair at all (and I really really wish it did!)

I absolutely loved this product! This was part of my first online Lush 'haul' (our Lush store doesn't open till June) and my first shampoo bar experience. I picked this one because I love the smell of jasmine (in South India, women frequently will have jasmine flowers woven in their hair), and it definitely did not disappoint.

Even though I feel like I can just use Godiva as a shampoo and gentle conditioner, I do prefer to use another conditioner afterwards if I want very soft, silky smooth hair. But if I'm in a rush, I feel like I can skip the conditioning step. I've already purchased a second bar for my mom because she's in love with it too! #newLushie

                              Comments about Godiva Solid Shampoo:

I bought this as my first bar shampoo purchase. I was skeptical about the whole phenomenon at first, but I know that Lush makes great products so I gave it a whirl. Firstly, I use the Lust perfume and the Godiva shampoo bar has the same scent so I already LOVED that part of it. And it lathers well, and it seems as if it will last a long time if kept in a dry place, protected.

As far as the condition/don't condition debate, I think it really depends on your hair. My hair is medium thickness, naturally wavy and at the moment cut just above my shoulders. So, with the nice amount of butters in the bar, I can get away without conditioning when I use this shampoo. If your hair is very long, thick, curly, or dry, you may need extra conditioning!

That being said, I think it's a wonderful product. 5 stars and I'm recommending everyone try it or something similar.

This is my very first time using a shampoo bar in my life! Usually I have to shampoo twice because my hair is so THICK and the first time I shampoo it doesn't lather well cause of the oils etc. but with this bar, one shampoo was all I needed!! I still did two cause I LOVE the smell and how clean it rinsed out! I didn't have a lush conditioner yet (it's coming in the mail cause I don't have a lush store near me) so I used my regular conditioner and applied the RB leave in and all I can say is I have never felt my hair so soft in years!!! I abuse the heck out of my hair (color, highlight, straighten) and I was shocked that my hair felt like I was 18 again!!! (I am 33 now) Thank You Lush!! I can't wait it use this with the American dream conditioner and the H'sung Wen Sua hair mask!!! Hurry up UPS man!!!!!:) LOL

I love this solid shampoo! I have thin, fine hair, and where I live they add A LOT of chlorine to the water, so a moisturizing shampoo is a must. This wonderful product works easily into rich, foamy lather, smells absolutely amazing and is very moisturizing. I can't willingly skip conditioner, but if I need to, I am sure Godiva will keep my locks presentable. Like with all handmade bars (soap, shampoo or other), keep it in a cool, well drained place or it will melt away faster then you want it to.

Hmm... so... maybe I'm just a freak but I actually don't like the smell of this product at all. It's very strong, and when I first used it I found the scent downright off-putting. I can stand it now, but I still don't like it very much. It does clean hair well and is a good shampoo overall, but I couldn't get by without using conditioner.

                                      Comments about Godiva Solid Shampoo:

My hair is thick, wavy, bottle blonde, and down to my fanny. Because of this, it can easily get dry and brittle if I wash it too much. In general, hair like this needs tons of TLC, especially the ends. After using Godiva in conjunction with American Cream, I saw immediate and drastic improvement. The most notable was it tamed my frizz and brightened the color. It's day three since washing and it is not greasy at all despite the climbing temperatures here in AZ. My only beef with it is the scent doesn't last very long and that it falls apart if you don't dry it out right away.

To use this product I wet my hair and rub it directly onto my hair from root to tip. After my shower, I immediately move it to a dry place to dry out before putting it back in the tin. You probably won't need to follow up with a conditioner if you have oily hair.

I absolutely LOVE this shampoo bar! I read all the comments that said that it dries out their hair, but it's not true. When I was rinsing my hair, it felt dry. The person from LUSH told me to not use conditioner after using this because when my hair dries, my hair will be soft and moisturized because of the cocoa butter or oil in the shampoo. She was right! My hair not only smells heavenly, but it is very soft and moisturized! One small flaw is that after I wash my hair and put it back in the tin, it melts and after about 25-28 washes, I have to buy a new bar. All in all, I LOVE THIS BAR! AND I LOVE LUSH!

                                        Comments about Godiva Solid Shampoo:

I first tried Godiva about four years ago. I bought it on the recommendation of a friend, but it just would not lather for me. I could only get it to lather if I stood under the running water and scrubbed it on my head and then stepped out from under the stream, held my hair flat in my hand, and swiped it four or five times across the length of it. My hair is a bit on the fine side, but wavy and long. Still, I thought I was using too much product.

I will say that my hair felt great afterward, smelled great - I loved it! But then I started to get dandruff. At first it was just a flake or two so I thought that I hadn't been thorough enough. Then it became enough that it was humiliating and noticeable from a distance. I started to use conditioner with the bar, but that barely helped. I had to use clinical strength dandruff removing shampoos for maybe three weeks before my scalp returned to normal.

Because Godiva smells so good and because I've been happy with other Lush products, I tried it again about a year ago. This time I tried it first with a cream conditioner from Lush (I don't remember the name, it was something I got a sample of) and it seemed okay. After that I used it with Big conditioner and even that seemed okay...for a few weeks. Then the dandruff started to come back. I tried to use Godiva only once a week, or only on the ends, but finally I just gave up.

My skin and my hair are very dry, but I don't usually use products that are specifically moisturizing. This was very disappointing.

All this repeated coloring left is dried out and UGH. Yes, this works. It's like your hair starts the healing process. Keep using it. MIracle. Honestly.......

Since shampoo is designed to remove dirt, oil, and deposits from the hair, it may fade synthetic dyes over time. That said, the best way to minimize colour-loss is to condition thoroughly to help seal the hair's cuticle. Godiva is loaded with conditioning cocoa butter and macadamia nut oil, so it would much less likely to strip colour than a more intense citrus or salt based shampoo.

I use this all the time & have very brightly dyed purple & black hair, this will pull the color out of your hair. I don't mind because it makes my hair feel amazing & the smell is beyond incredible. I just re-dye more often as a trade off. If you are using a normal colored box dye (blonde, brown, etc. It probably won't pull the color out, but with the brighter colors the lather turns whatever color my hair is at the time and it does fade the color.

Godiva is very moisturizing, as we use lots of cocoa butter as well as rich macadamia nut oil to soften and nourish the hair.

                                            A:

We can use the term “perfume” to legally encompass all of the fragrance components (such as resins, essential oils, absolutes, other fragrance materials, etc) that we select to come up with our signature LUSH scent. In many cases, we do list the most prominent scent materials, particularly if they are part of what makes the product effective. Such as in Godiva, we use ylang ylang oil both for its sensual scent, as well as for its beautiful shine.

We like to start with natural oils and build up fragrances around them, using synthetic materials to support the formulae. The synthetic ingredients we use may be existing components of materials. For example, adding geraniol to a rose and geranium fragrance will tie together the ‘chemical daisy chain’ because both of these natural materials contain geraniol. We also use synthetic musk and some aromas that are impossible to obtain from nature, e.g. for candy scents.

Making perfumes is usually a closely guarded secret to companies – it’s one of the important elements of brand recognition and customer loyalty. There are already many knock-offs of our products in the world and we feel it’s reasonable of us not to publish the perfume formulations.

It is a strong scent, but a very pleasant one. It smells of real jasmine, unlike the fakey smell of artificial fragrances. I have sensitive skin as well, it does not bother me one bit. Even my fave lush moisturizer has a slight scent, and it is magic on my sensitive skin that reacts against so many things! (It's called celestial btw). If you like Jasmine, I think you'd be good to go trying it!

There is a lot of fragrance, but I believe it is mostly jasmine absolute, so not artificial in the sense of chemicals. But if you're sensitive to scents, maybe steer clear.

It will last between 60-80 washes provided the bar is allowed a chance to dry after each use. I'd recommend keeping it in a well-draining soap dish to help it last longer.

Honestly, on average I use a lot of shampoo, so it did not last as long as is advertised. They say that a shampoo bar lasts up to 80 washes. Not so for me. I have long and very thick hair and I like to shampoo twice. I wash my hair every other day, so it lasted me about 30 washes. It will last longer if you have shorter hair or thinner hair. It lasted me just a long as a bottle of shampoo would have lasted, but the results I get from the bar, far exceed that of any bottled shampoo I have tried.

I suds my hands, then use that on my hair, rinse and repeat. Woooosh - the shampoo seems to explode into a full head of lather the 2nd time. I love it!!
