I've always produced a lot of sweat and oil, but a few weeks ago my boss sat me down to tell me it was really becoming a problem during long shifts on the sales floor. After that embarrassing wake-up call, I immediately ordered Guv'ner. I use a kabuki brush to apply it on my armpits, chest, and thighs after my morning shower. The product will stick to any damp parts and smear, but if you towel off thoroughly before application, you won't have a problem. I also reapply before bed to curb oil production at night. (This is the only product I've used that reduces both sweat *and* oil, which is huge!) I was worried the patchouli would make me smell like a head shop, but the scent is actually very subtle and layers nicely with Orange Blossom and Breath of God. I can't recommend this product enough and will definitely be reordering.

Straight up, this turns my skin and clothes gray, and smells bad. However, after literally years and dozens of products tried on my finicky skin, my perfect combo is: Aromarant (or any natural stick deodorant if you didn't stockpile a bunker of Aromarant before it was discontinued; mostly it's for the powder to stick to), then I use a makeup brush to apply a mix of about 2/3 Coconut and 1/3 Guv'nor, which I keep in a soap tin. Kind of elaborate, but worth it: works, smell is light and inoffensive, minimal mess, no staining.

This wasn't for me. I put this on before work and I noticed it left my underarms the same color as the product. I didn't mind this as much as the smell though. When I would sweat this stuff creased in my under arms and actually made my underarms smell way worse.

I'm trying to wean myself off aluminum-based anti-perspirants, so I decided to try The Guv'nor after I decided I couldn't stand the smell of Aromaco.

The Guv'nor seemed to be working well at first. Seriously well, especially considering that we had been having triple-digit weather and my car's air-conditioning had broken down. My pits smelled beautiful and inoffensive. I was expecting much differently because I heard there was a "breaking in" period where your sweat glands get used to not being plugged up by aluminum.

However, after a couple of days, I smelled something rank. It was my pits. I was so self-conscious because I smelled like a 13 year-old boy at the peak of puberty who forgot to wear deodorant.

Again, I thought, "This must be the "breaking in" period I had heard about kicking in." I decided to power through it. Well, it's been around 2 weeks and I still smell awful.

I got a sample of the Aromaco just to see if it worked and I put it on the first day I started using The Guv'nor. I don't know if its effects lasted a few days afterward and if that's why The Guv'nor worked so well initially. I tried using the combination again but my sample of Aromaco has taken on a rough consistency and it feels like I'm literally sanding my armpits when I apply it, so I didn't get to go through with Round 2 of the experiment.

Maybe this might work for you, but it didn't work for me. It's a shame because I had my hopes up.

AWESOME! much less sweat, and NO odor! any other lush deo i've used has faded throughout the day and i've had to reapply, but not this stuff! it smells weird in the bottle, but on my pits, it smells like nothing! also, it's really not messy to apply if you tip the bottle into the palm of your hand and kind of rub it into your armpit. that way it doesn't make a mess everywhere, and rubbing it in makes it so it's not as dark. give this stuff a try!!!

My son is 10 and has started to need a deoderant. His best friend uses a popular spray which cause me to have irritated eyes for a week and makes it hard to breathe. So I looked for a kids version of deoderant and found nothing at the store, then I decided I'd check with Lush which we use a lot anyway. What is great abut this is that its not so overpowering that you can smell it everywhere hes been, hours after hes left the spot. Its easy to use descretly, which is good, as he thinks no one his age uses anything. He puts it on in the morning and then by evening hes still a nice smelling kid. I also like that this doesnt have tons of crazy things I dont feel comfortable having my son put onto his body. I do wish Lush would make s kid specific set for biys and girls. There is nothing out there for them and they need something. This doesnt cost too much and for him a bottle is lasting a long time.

I have always had a very heavy body odor no product on the market has helped me...this one helps and I love it. I use a cosmetic sponge to apply it to under arms and helps hold it and makes very much less of a mess.

Here's the thing. I love The Guv'ner it works amazing! I mean hours go by and I still smell, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in my armpits! Even if I sweat like intensely. Nothing. My only con of this amazing beautiful product is if you're not used to powder deodorants, it can be very messy at first. My first time using Guv'ner, I got a little all over my dresser. But now, I'm pretty much a pro at it.
It doesn't get on clothes but every now and then it will but it washes out completely :)
And it works so well! Definitely a must-have for any Lush lover.

LOVE IT! I have used almost every natural deodorant on the market since I quit using antiperspirants 20 years ago, and this is hands down the most effective. 24+ hours odor-free (and I usually have morning pong), even with moderate sweating in a hot, hot summer. So what if it makes my pits green? I just rub it in to redistribute. (It probably also helps that 99% of my clothes are dark.) Small price to pay for super odor control.

Attention Ladies and Gentlemen...This is the best deodorant on the market. First, IT'S NOT MESSY. I use an empty facial powder pump brush. (You know the pump brushes that are refillable, you can buy them on [@], type in POWDER PUMP BRUSH) This works PERFECT, and NOT messy at all. Just pump once and powder under one arm, then repeat under the second arm. All you need is a little dusting, it's that great. I purchased a bottle 2 months ago, and the powder level is down to the top of the label, so this 2.8 oz. will most likely last me a year, and using the refillable pump brush helps with any over use or mess. It's also easy to fill, just unscrew the pump brush and fill with the GOV'NER.Now, the effectiveness of this product is unbelievable, and like no other. It's been a long hot summer here in the mid-west, (105 degrees today), and I'm in and out of the house each day, at the gym, cutting grass, etc. sweating my A off, and at the end of the day there is ABSOLUTELY NO SMELL. I've used all kinds of deodorant, the clinical strength, and there is NOTHING like govner, NOTHING. It is extremely effective, you and your husband, dad, sister, brother, mother, etc. will love it.If lush could find a way to do away with the dark residue it leaves under your arms, this product could be a billion dollar product alone for lush, I'm not sure how they can turn the charcoal white. Anyway, the efectiveness of this product out weights the dark residue. It is that effective! If LUSH would market Gov'ner alone, it would definitely be a million dollar plus product. So folks, get your pump brush, fill it with Govner, you'll love it. Share with your friends and family. Just for the record, I am not a Lush employee, I just love LUSH products, and I want to share my experience with this fantastic product.

This is the only Lush product I have ever returned. It turned my pits green, nearly ruining my white work shirt. Luckily they're industrial-laundered. After work I was mortified to go out because I'd brought a tank top to change into. My pits were a disgusting, sickly green that wouldn't scrub off. It was also harsh on my skin. It didn't work any better than my current use of Aromaco/Silky Underwear.

Don't bother.

I've recently become intrigued by LUSH deodorants, after using standard deodorant all my life, so on a recent trip to replenish some other products, I acquired a sample of The Guv'ner. I'd read about it online and it seemed to be the one that was formulated to work best on someone who bikes 10 miles daily for my physically-intensive job. Sweat is a constant.

This stuff is amazing. Very little odor to the product itself - just a faint but pleasant herbal scent, which I appreciate as I do not like strong scents in my deodorant. And hoooooboy does it WORK! I've been testing it for the past few days now and when I do my sniff-test at the end of a long day...no odor! I don't smell AT ALL! Keeps me pretty dry too, though the odor issue is more important to me.

And seriously - just apply it with a makeup brush and you'll avoid the mess. Simple as that. Also, I know people were complaining about "staining" - I find that it only makes my pits look a little gray immediately after applying, but that goes away pretty quickly.

I've been using Aromaco for years now and love it. I found Guv'ner while on vacation a few weeks ago and decided to give it a try. I use it by sprinkling some on top of my Aromaco bar and then apply it. This helps with coverage and helps keep the powdery Guv'ner in place. I like the way it smells and it helps with wetness. It is a grey-green color so your pits will be that color when you put it on. However, I haven't had any problems with the color getting on my shirt or staining anything. I'm not sure how long the color lasts, but I don't see it anymore when I take my shirt off in the evening and it doesn't stain.

Pros:
1) Well, this isn't going to be a pro for everyone, but one of the most unique pros that I can come up with is - I found a new use for the product. I sprinkled it on top of the filter of my kitty litter box and it has made a HUGE difference! But, since that's not what most of you are here to hear about...moving on...
2) I didn't know it was formulated for men, so I bought it (Me: not a man). It was fairly long-lasting.
3) It smelled okay, but as someone else said, it tends to smell better after it mixes with your own scent...like, after it "sits" for a bit.
4) I have extremely sensitive skin and I do not find this irritating at all. Not even a little. Not even after shaving, or when my skin is wet. I was very surprised to see people saying that they found it irritating. I do find some of the other deods. here irritating.
5) The bottle lasts forever!

Cons:
1) I'm very pale and this does tend to make my pits greenish-grey. On the other hand, it fades quickly. But...it will get on your clothing. But, it does wash out. This almost makes me take a star away. Maybe if you're a guy or if you're not pale (like me), it doesn't bother you, or you wouldn't notice, if your pits are greenish-grey? But, I'd still think it would bug you to get it on your clothes. Having said that, it's charcoal-based. It's going to be dark. I like that it's charcoal-based. I do feel that it neutralizes odor better because it's charcoal-based, so I'm not sure there's any way to get around the color. I can live with it.
a) I just put it on right after my shower, while I'm wet, and then it doesn't get on my clothes. By the time I'm ready to go out, you can't really see it, even if I'm wearing something sleeveless.
2) It does smell a bit strange. Again, that tends to dissipate. I still might encourage a more ladylike version...perhaps with a lavender scent? Not sure if that's possible.

Well, I like it. I'd like it more with a nice scent.

Wow... I love how this smells, but be warned, it's REALLY not good for sensitive skin. I put it on after taking a shower and felt a peculiar burning sensation - after realizing it was the deodorant I had to rinse it off. Even after rinsing, it hurts. Fail.

I wasn't particulary pleased with the smell. However; I had an idea of what to expect from knowing about smell blends {patchouli & charcoal}. It does smell better once you have begin to perspire. Maybe the powder takes on the mixture of your natural Body Odor and the fragrance ingredients of Guv'ner. It is messy to apply but cotton balls or some cosmetic product you can use to put it on is helpful. It keeps me from perspiring which is a peave (especially in my career wear).

this is by far the best natural deodorant i have used. i sweat, a lot. this keeps me dry and stink free. i just got home from an 8 hour work shift AND a 3 mile run. im as stink free as i was when i left the house this morning! i couldnt wait to come home and write a review! love it! thanx, lush!

So I sweat a lot for a girl. I had been using clinical strength antiperspirants for quite a while but they were never really effective at anything other than odor control, I would sweat through them and my shirts before the morning was over. I previously tried Lush's Aromaco but it irritated my pits really badly. I've been using the Greeench for a while but I find that it doesn't help with my sweating as much as I'd like it to and I'm not a big fan of smelling like a lamb roast. I got the Guv'ner hoping it would be better than the Greeench and in my opinion, it totally is.
It smells really great, a kind of subtle, earthy smell that I much prefer to the flowery, powdery, and cloying smell of other deodorants. The charcoal does give a slight greyish tint to your pits but I don't really mind it, it's not horribly noticeable. I do find that I sometimes have to reapply towards the end of the day but that's only if I've had a really long, busy day. It is very good at keeping me feeling dry, I pretty much never sweat through my shirts anymore!
I generally apply this in the mornings before I go to the gym by tapping some out into my palm and using an old makeup brush to apply it to my pits so I don't get it all over. I also reapply it after my post-workout shower by tapping some out into my palm and applying it directly to my pits before getting dressed. I don't worry about getting it on my clothes because for years I've been rolling up my shirts inside out from the hem to the sleeves before I put them on to avoid that very issue.
All in all, I think that this is the best deodorant Lush has made.

This is the first natural deodorant I've tried that actually works with a single daily application. I love the fresh, unisex scent--it's not so strong as to be detectable to others though.

Application can be a little messy; I'm still shaking out into my hand but plan to put it in an empty black lush pot soon as I pick up a puff or kabuki brush. I apply it when still a bit damp after showering and it stays all day.

A minor complaint is that it's a dark grayish-green color, which is only an issue if I plan to wear a white/light-colored or sleeveless top. Also it can be just a bit stingy right after shaving.

Overall though, I'm very happy with the Guv'ner as an effective alternative to traditional deodorant.
