Q:I've been thinking about trying out Herbalism since I do have oily acne prone skin and I wanted to know if I should try out any other products for a skincare routine (regime)? Also are there samples for Herbalism? I'm not sure if i want to buy a full size until i'm sure it works well! Thanks for your help!Asked on 3/22/2015 by Kelly from Los Angeles, CA
A:I've been using herbalism myself for about 2 years & I love it! It's really
cleared up my skin I don't have as much breakouts as I used to I would
highly recommend itAnswered on 3/22/2015 by Anonymous
Q:I have EXTREMLY oily skin which gets VERY shiny and gross during the day, I also have acne and lots of blackheads. I have tried so many products for oily skin that don't work- will this one be any better? I use Fresh Pharmacy at night and alternate it with ocean salt in the mornings, as well as tea tree toner spray. I was thinking of using herbalism in the mornings- will it prevent my face from getting so oily??Asked on 3/19/2015 by Erin
A:Herbalism is packed with natural sebum balancers such as rosemary and nettle, so it would do a great job of helping to balance the oil you have on your face. We also use kaolin clay and rice bran to absorb any excess oil as well. You also definitely want to moisturize your skin as well - our Enzymion sounds like it would be a great option for you. It uses a ton of fresh citrus and fruit juices to help tone the skin and mop up excess oil. Enzymion does an amazing job of mattifying the skin as well!Answered on 3/20/2015 by Meg from LUSH Direct
Q:So I have had trouble skin for a while (oily, blackheads, whiteheads, and a few cysts) and I heard of Lush and found this and Dark Angels for my kind of skin and was wondering what the difference was between the two? Does one help better with acne than the other?Asked on 3/3/2015 by Fio
A:Dark angels has Powdered Charcoal as an ingredient which is one of the best natural detoxifying agents in recent skincare. Dark angels does leave your skin unified and detoxed where as Herbalism is better for sensitive breakouts. Herbalism uses Kaolin clay and Rice Vinegar to softly unclog pores and absorb oil. It really depends on whether your prefer to detox your skin or deep cleanse it. Both work great for oily skin and both quell those pesky breakout! Dark Angels tends to be more exfoliating on the skin. I hope this helps!Answered on 3/21/2015 by Alexander from LUSH Direct
A:Hi! So this may seem crazy but I have a very similar skin profile! I don't suffer with cysts, but I definitely identify with blackheads and oily, clogged skin! Dark Angels is charcoal based so it's a great antibacterial! It also has some sugar crystals that exfoliate and allow the Dark Angels to REALLY get into your pores and get clean. Herbalism is such a good, gentle cleanser that makes your face feel squeaky clean! The kaolin clay and rice powder absorb all the oil that accumulated while you slept and refreshes your face removing all the sweat and dirt from the gym! I honestly recommend you get both. My suggested routine would be to use Herbalism every morning and Dark Angels every night. The Dark Angels will clean all your makeup and grime, activate the antibacterial properties of the charcoal and let it get down into your pores. Rinse your face with cool water and apply a moisturizer. In the morning, cleanse with Herbalism to give yourself a fresh canvas to start the day. Use herbalism after the gym or between washes. When your breakouts clear, use herbalism twice a day - just do a Dark Angels treatment once a week for maintenance, or go back to the routine if you have a breakout! Enjoy, Lushie! <3Answered on 3/5/2015 by Anonymous
Q:If I used this product daily, about how long would it last?Asked on 2/23/2015 by Inger
A:Since a little bit goes quite a long way with all of our products, a pea sized amount is the perfect amount for the face! Our fresh facial cleansers are good for 3-4 months from their made by date, so depending on how much you purchase, it could last you for those full 4 months!Answered on 2/27/2015 by Meg from LUSH Direct
Q:I had a bad breakout and I started using this product for a little over a week. I see no results. Normally I use Ocean Salt, then I wash my face with Herbalism, then I use the Breath Of Fresh Air toner water, and sometimes use Celestial as a face moisturizer. Should I try using this product alone to start seeing my acne go away?Asked on 1/17/2015 by Dana from Hopatcong, NJ
A:Hi there, thanks for your question!
Sorry to hear that. If your cleansing routine isnt working out for you I would try using just one cleanser, then a toner. Sometimes using a face moisturizer on top of 2 cleansers and a toner might over power the oil control. I would try just using one cleanser and see how that goes!
Hope this helps!Answered on 1/19/2015 by Anonymous
Q:Can I use the Herbalism everday both day and night?Asked on 12/23/2014 by Scarleth from United States
A:Hi there! It totally depends on your skin type. If you do have sensitive skin, I would recommend using it once a day or once every two days! If not, use it as often as you would like!Answered on 12/31/2014 by Anonymous
A:It depends on your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, then only use it
once a day or once every two days. I use it every night, and then
moisturize. I have acne-prone skin and using it every night doesn't make my
acne worse.Answered on 12/24/2014 by Anonymous
A:It is fine to use your Herbalism day and night if you've got a serious breakout. However, I would say using it this way should only go in three day intervals with three or four days of using Herbalism once a day at night and employing a more gentle cleanser in the morning. Typically when you wash your face before bed you won't need such a deep cleansing for the morning. I would honestly say a more gentle cleanser, like Angels on Bare Skin or Aqua Marina, would do much better in the morning when you're face has only rested on a pillow (and has not been under makeup or had to endure environmental contaminants). Less is more when it comes to your delicate facial skin. If you cleanse deeply day AND night you may be irritating your skin and bring on a rash or acne type breakout. One last thing, if you're not doing it already, extend your facial care down your neck to the top of your chest :) You'll be happy you did as you get older. Merry Christmas!!Answered on 12/24/2014 by Vassar from Lake Stevens
A:Yes! Herbalism is awesome but I use it in the morning because it does a really good job of soaking up excessive oils even throughout the day and clearing your pours, while I use 'coal face' bar cleanser at night. There is a slight possibility if you use herbalism both morning and night it will dry out your face if you aren't using a moisturizer. Hope this helps!

Q:I'm thinking about buying this product because of the specifications and how much reviewers liked it. My main question is, can I use this in conjunction with other products like Coal Face? I know they're both cleansers, but would it make sense to alternate, or just stick to one the whole time? Like, will the combination of Coal Face and Herbalism do more harm than good if they're both used on the same day (one in the morning, one at night).Asked on 11/21/2014 by Paul
A:I can see no reason why you wouldn't be able to use them in conjunction! In situations like this, it's always best to listen to your skin. If you're finding that it's making your skin too dry, you could always just stick to one!Answered on 11/25/2014 by Serena from LUSH Direct
A:I would alternate between herbalism and coalface. Herbalism might be better to use in the morning because it's gentler and will help soak up oil throughout the day, and coalface could be used at night for a deeper cleanse at the end of the day.

Q:So I've been using the Herbalism cleanser for a while now, and I'm wondering if anyone has travelled with it before? I'm flying out of state in January and only bringing a carry-on, and I'm wondering if I have to pack it as a liquid. I'm inclined to think I wouldn't have to, but has anyone had any experience with it?Asked on 11/20/2014 by Bree from Raleigh, NC
A:I would err on the side of caution and bring some in a 3.4 ounce container as the TSA requires small containers for all "liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes" and I think Herbalism would be considered one of those!Answered on 11/26/2014 by Haley from LUSH Direct
Q:Does this have to be refrigerated?Asked on 11/12/2014 by Dana from Santa Clara

A:No, Herbalism does not need to be refrigerated, just make sure to use by the best before date!Answered on 11/14/2014 by Anonymous
A:No, you don't have to refrigerate it! And it should have a best buy date on it.

A:No. it doesn't need to be refrigerated. I keep it in my bathroom and the
largest available size lasts me about 3-4 months, as I use it everyday. It
never had any bed smell and I never had any bad reactions to it after
keeping it at room temperature.Answered on 11/12/2014 by Anonymous
Q:Does this help with acne scars?Asked on 10/27/2014 by Haley from Denver, CO
A:The ground almonds in the Herbalism Cleanser will exfoliate your skin and ultimately fade scars over time. Exfoliation increases the rate of skin cell regeneration.Answered on 11/6/2014 by Farinaz from LUSH Direct
Q:I use a full coverage liquid foundation every day. Most cleaners don't remove the makeup to well. How is this cleanser on removing foundation & makeup?Asked on 9/26/2014 by Nina from New York
A:This cleanser may remove some makeup, but is more so recommended for people who experience oily, acne-prone skin. If you are looking for a cleanser that is good to use as a makeup remover, I would recommend Ultrabland. The essential oils, honey and beeswax is what makes Ultrabland great for removing any makeup or residue that is built up throughout the day.Answered on 9/27/2014 by Anonymous
Q:does it help your oily skin throughout the day?Asked on 7/20/2014 by newbie
A:Yes, this is perfect for oily skin and leaves your skin feeling matte!Answered on 9/25/2014 by Anonymous
A:It certainly does. My skin is super oily so I use morning and night and it keep my face in perfect balance.Answered on 8/5/2014 by Michaela from Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Q:I've started using Herbalism and it has been rapidly clearing my skin since. I wanted to know if long term users had experienced a reduction in hyperpigmentation as well? As my skin cleared of actual acne I realized a lot of whats left on my skin is dark spots left from previous acne and I am not sure whether to continue use of this product or not.Asked on 6/26/2014 by A Curious Lass from United States
A:Exfoliating is a great way to help fade dark spots, as it allows skin cells to regenerate and push to the surface. Herbalism is a great exfoliant, so you should see results over time with regular use.Answered on 9/25/2014 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
A:I found that it helped lighten those spots within the course of 3-6 months.
I also paired this with the Tea Tree Water toner and and the Vanishing
Cream moisturizer (tee tree is amazing for skin discoloration so that
probably helped a lot as well.)Answered on 6/26/2014 by onigirimelon from Minneapolis, MN
Q:How does this product compare with Fresh Farmacy?
I am 16 with very oily and sensitive skin and am very prone to blemishes and acne. I wish to even my complexion, calm the acne and oils, and get rid of the blotchy blemishes. which product would work better?Asked on 6/22/2014 by Mariana from Seattle, WA
A:Fresh Farmacy is geared more towards those with sensitive, acne-prone skin so if you consider your skin quite sensitive it might be a better choice for you. Herbalism is a little bit more intense, as it will also work to exfoliate the skin in addition to cleansing it. Both are fantastic in fighting acne.Answered on 9/25/2014 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
A:Honestly, I think that fresh pharmacy might work better to calm to oils and
balance out your skin. But exfoliating is a big part of a skin routine to
get some of the oil out of your pores and scrub off dead skin cells. I
would say that you should buy some of the herbalism (not a lot if you can
go into a physical store) and use the fresh pharmacy most of the time but
use the herbalism one or two times a week just to keep your pores extra
clean. Hope I helped!Answered on 6/24/2014 by Anonymous
Q:I have back acne, does this product work on body acne?Asked on 5/27/2014 by keke from alexandria, va
A:Herbalism is a face and body cleanser great for acne prone skin. Give it a try and see if it works for you!Answered on 9/8/2014 by Anonymous
A:Yes this stuff works great on the back. I get breakouts on my back mostly in the winter months, but I've been continuing to use Herbalism well into the summer so far. I started using it in February, and it immediately started working its magic on my back, and even chest. Now I don't feel like I constantly have to cover up my chest and back with clothes because my skin looks so great!Answered on 6/13/2014 by Brigida from Reno, NV
A:Hi Keke!! I noticed it controlled my pimples, and reduced the ones I had on my face during mother nature month... :0) been using the cleanser for 2 weeks now, and noticed it is gradually reducing my post acne marks. I know this doesn't answer your concern, but I hope it helped a little... & I think you should try herbalism!! Good luck!! :0)Answered on 6/9/2014 by The smeller from Texas
Q:How many times per week should I use this product? Can I use it every other day, so it wouldn't dry my skin out too much ?Asked on 4/14/2014 by Gz from Manhattan, NY
A:I used it everyday. It won't dry your skin out because it has enough natural oils in it.

A:Our Herbalism cleanser can be uses as often or as sparingly as works for your skin! It is gentle enough to use daily, but I recommend doing whatever works for you!Answered on 4/15/2014 by Kayla from LUSH DIRECT
A:I use it everyday, and it shouldn't dry out your skinAnswered on 4/14/2014 by Anonymous
A:Herbalism is a very gentle exfoliant so it should not dry out your skin. It's safe to use once or twice a day!
-MaggieAnswered on 4/14/2014 by Anonymous
A:I have never experienced dryness with this cleanser. I used it twice a day
every day. The clays it contains can be slightly drying if you have dry
skin (I have oily combination skin, which this cleanser is recommended for)
but its nothing a good moisturizer can't fix. The herbs are also very
soothing, so it won't irritate your skin at all. In fact, I find my skin
to be smoother and more evenly toned immediately after using this product.
Best of luck!Answered on 4/14/2014 by Anonymous
Q:How long does it last?
I know the cleanser is best used fresh, but how long til it is "expired"? I want to know because I want to get it, but it seems you can only get 8.8 oz online, not the smaller amount anymore, and I don't want it to go bad before I finish it.Asked on 3/13/2014 by Bea
A:Our fresh cleaners, such as Herbalism have a shelf life of 3 months.Answered on 3/22/2014 by Kayla from LUSH DIRECT
Q:Can I use this with my clarisonic?Asked on 2/19/2014 by miranda from Florida
A:We would not recommend using Herbalism with any type of cleansing device as it has pieces of almonds and rice bran that might clog the device.Answered on 3/21/2014 by Kendra M from LUSH Direct
A:The Clarisonic in itself is harsh enough on skin so I do not suggest you to double that with this really harsh paste. Use your Clarisonic with something with moisture and more importantly, something lighter. Or you will completetly destroy the brush on your Clarisonic.Answered on 3/10/2014 by CiliaVictoria from Seattle, WA
Q:Does anyone happen to know if this cleanser is non-comedogenic?Asked on 1/27/2014 by asdfghjkl
A:Non-comedogenic is a term that many cosmetic companies use to describe skincare products that don't use ingredients that will clog the pores, and generally cater these products to those with acne-prone skin. Since there are no regulations or specifications as to what is considered non-comedogenic, any company with any product is welcome to claim the title. Herbalism doesn't include ingredients that will clog the pores, and in fact it does just the opposite! With a kaolin clay base, Herbalism will help to clean the pores by lifting out dirt and debris to reveal clear, healthy skin.Answered on 3/22/2014 by Melissa S from LUSH Direct
Q:is this product good for blackheads?Asked on 1/19/2014 by lexi.
A:I found that this product really helps at unclogging pores! Another good one to try in our Mask of Magnaminty!Answered on 3/21/2014 by Kayla from LUSH DIRECT
A:I feel your pain -- I have deeply-rooted blackheads on my nose that no
amount of pore strips or scrubs can get rid of. While I loved how soft my
skin felt after using Herbalism, it did not, unfortunately, get rid of my
blackheads. I also wasn't a fan of the fact that the product comes in such
a big tub but expires relatively quickly (compared to the small amount
you're supposed to use per wash). Usually I would simply recommend getting
the smaller size tub, but the unit price difference can be steep sometimes.
The ingredients in it are great, with the exception of the perfume
additives -- I have the kind of oily, acne-prone skin that's also
sensitive. I realized recently that I had to be better about purchasing
skincare products that ruthlessly punish my skin and instead go for gentler
products that aim to balance my skin's pH. Talc and perfume are the two
skincare ingredients I try to avoid now. Altogether, though, if you're
looking for a scrub gentle enough to use everyday, Herbalism is your go-to
product (I would recommend adding in pore strips, too, - Biore might be too
harsh, I've looked into Boscia and DIY strips as well - if you're looking
for something to really help with blackheads specifically).Answered on 1/19/2014 by Anonymous
A:my experience so far is that herbalism is good for overall skin health. it seems to brighten my skin! for blackheads I recommend let the good times roll, dark angels, and ocean salt. those are in gentle-to-strong order. good luck! (good lush!)Answered on 1/29/2014 by Anonymous
