Perfectly balancing lavender cream

If you’re not sure which moisturizer is for you, we recommend starting here. Imperialis is a finely crafted moisturizer that works with most skin types to ease and soothe irritations. Made with lavender infusion to balance the skin's sebum production, the lavender encourages dry skin to produce more natural oils and discourages oily skin from overdoing it. Orange blossom water brightens up dull looking areas and leaves you smelling gorgeous all day long.

Features

  • Feel like your skin has a split personality? Balance oily T-zones with Imperialis.
  • Say goodbye to slick: Thanks to its lightweight texture, Imperialis absorbs easily upon application.
  • Refine visible pores: Tiger lily extract tightens the pores to keep dirt and oil out of blemish-prone skin.

I really like the feel and the smell of Enzymion, but I really hate spending that much on moisturizer. Imperialis has a more college-student-budget-friendly price tag, and is just about as effective. It's heavier, though, but that's an easy problem to solve: use less! This means that you spend less AND you get more uses out of it. Definitely worth the money.

I've been using this in conjunction with Herbalism and Tea Tree Water Toner, with great results. My skin has calmed down and I rarely break out anymore. I used to break out a lot, you see, so this is a major and very pleasant change. This is actually helping to minimize my pores and smooth my skin out. I think it's great.

The only thing is the smell. It smells sort of neutral, and a little bit... strange, somehow. It doesn't really matter, though, because it doesn't last long at all.

I tested this out for a few days and had the worst breakouts of my life. I have combo skin and thought this would be great - big mistake.

First, this was way too greasy. Even on my really really dry and flaky areas. It made my oily areas a oil slick.

Second, it caused my worse breakout ever. It made my face a mess. I broke out on my cheeks and that NEVER happens. Whiteheads all over the place. How embarrassing, my hubby asked what was going on with my face and he felt bad for me :( It was the only new product I used and soon as I stopped it started clearing and drying up. This was a bad choice for me.

Comments about Imperialis Moisturizer:

I was introduced to this product as a daily face lotion, but I think it's too thick so I use it as a night cream instead. I got it in November 2012 so I'm almost done using it. I might have used it a couple times in the winter, but I think I used it more as a night cream and lightly dabbed on during the day.

The smell is alright. I don't mind it, but it is not as great as other products (in my opinion--I really like Ro's Argan Oil, Turkish Delight, etc).

Other than being too thick for daytime use, I love it as a nighttime product and think it replenishes my skin :) I can feel my skin drinking it up.

Be sure not to put to much on otherwise it's just extra oily. I also wanted to clean up the container a little more so I scooped up the product on the rim--bad idea it was SUPER oily. Way too heavy for me even for nighttime use.

I've got combination skin and many acne scars on my cheek. Those haven't really faded, but the most recent scars from an allergic reaction I got over the summer are basically gone.

    Comments about Imperialis Moisturizer:

Due to harsh winter weather over the past couple of years, the apples of my cheeks took a real beating and became so very dry and felt like I could peel off some areas (when my skin was super dry, I could do this). As a result, the texture wasn't the same as the rest of the skin on my face. The moisturizer wasn't too heavy and gave my skin the moisture it needed. A little goes a long way, though!

At first, the moisturizer was enough right after washing my face, but after a little while, I still felt dryness near the temples of my face, near the corners of my eyes, and the apples of my cheeks, so I put only a bit more on around there. I think that isn't the fault of the product, but of me not drinking enough water. So I continued to try the product for a week, making sure to drink more water than I normally did (meaning drinking more than just a cup or two! I know, that's terrible!!)

I can really see and feel a difference in my skin after more than a week of using these products twice a day (once when I wake up, and once before I sleep). I like that the moisturizer helps brings moisture to the dry areas.

The only thing I really disliked about Imperialis is the packaging it came in. It seemed like no matter what I did to make sure the cream didn't come out on the sides when I closed it, some still managed to ooze free! I wish this was in a pump form. It would probably help with not wasting any drop of the product due to how poorly it closes at first. Or maybe even a top that flips up and we can squeeze some out! Of course now that I've used a bit of it, it isn't oozing out anymore.

I just found it too heavy for the oily parts of my combination skin. I now use a tiny amount on my cheeks twice a day and on my whole face every other day. I didn't mind the smell to begin with but now I am not so sure. It's kind of odd. I would recommend it to someone with dry skin rather than combination skin.

      Comments about Imperialis Moisturizer:

I have always had acne prone, combination skin. I have tried every OTC and prescription treatment out there, and nothing ever really helped. I decided to go the opposite direction and try the all-natural approach.

I got some samples before dropping $25 on a moisturizer, and I was impressed with how long the sample lasted--you really only need a little bit for your whole face, especially when your skin is damp after a shower.

The moisturizer sinks in quickly, leaving my face feeling clean and dry. I have noticed a definite decrease in pore size and breakouts since I started using this product. I'm also less oily, and the blackheads on my nose and chin are finally going away!

I love the smell, and I know it's going to last a long time. My only wish is that it was in a pump bottle as opposed to a pot, because sticking your fingers into a pot over and over spreads bacteria. Please package in a pump bottle and I will never stop buying!

I purchased this product on a whim when I initially visited Lush to buy Dark Angels and Herbalism because a friend recommended it to me. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much out of this product, I mainly purchased it because I need a moisturizer and it just happened to be there.

I went home and tried out Herbalism then used this as a moisturizer and I was surprised at how non-greasy and non-irritating it was, especially because the slight fragrance it had scared me a bit (products with any type of fragrance usually breaks me out or irritates my skin. I have sensitive skin and mild-moderate acne and acne scarring). It didn't break me out at all either and it's been a week since I've purchased it. I use it twice a day, in the morning after I wash my face with my old over the counter product and at night after using Dark Angels or Herbalism. Usually, most moisturizers I've used before had that really thick, gross, heavy feeling during and after applying it to my skin, but not this. It's so light I totally forget I even applied it.

This product is my new favorite and I'm glad I bought it. My skin feels super smooth, clear, and clean and I love it!

          Comments about Imperialis Moisturizer:

I am enamored with this moisturizer! I was initially given a sample of Celestial to try out as a new moisturizer, and although I did like it, I noticed it was a bit too heavy for my combination skin. I then stumbled upon Imperialis and decided to give it a try seeing that it was specifically for combination skin, and let me just say that trying it was one if the best decisions of my life. My t-zone tends to get oily, yet also dry, tight, and flaky, making most moisturizers only target one problem. The first night I started using Imperialis I immediately felt refreshed and loved the way it absorbed in my skin and left me supple with no extra shine or greasiness. The scent is clean and spa like which is perfect for right before bed.

The next morning after using Imperialis I was neither oily nor dry--my skin was glowing and perfect! It also helped to heal a few post acne scars, and shrunk my few residual heat induced breakouts! Since using it for a week, my skin is more supple, hydrated, less oily, and I haven't had a breakout since!

I'm also incredibly fair, like Snow White fair where I have to use SPF 100+ just to go out during the day, so I'm also prone to redness and having an even skin tone is nearly impossible for me. Imperialis also helped even out my skin tone and has drastically reduced the redness in my skin! My skin is nearly perfectly even and I find that I use far less foundation/don't feel the need to most of the time!
I highly recommend this to anyone with difficult/combination skin, and since a really small bit goes a long way, the price point is completely doable for nearly everyone!

I'm really disappointed that I'm going to have to stop using this moisturizer. I started breaking out after using it for a couple weeks. I really noticed an improvement in my skin after switching over to Lush products, but I am going to have to find a different moisturizer as I haven't had this many pimples since high school. As weird as it may sound, the quality of my skin is great after using this--other than the breakouts!

I got this product with high hopes because of the recommendation for combination skin but after using it the first time I already felt like it was going to be to much for my skin. I have combination skin so I feel tight and dry on my forehead and cheeks but super oily on my t zone. As soon as i put this on my skin it feels heavy and within an hour my t zone develops a lot of oil, usually it takes halfway through the day to get to that point. After reading a lot of reviews of the ingredients I think Lush needs to re-evaluate its use of cocoa butter in face moisturizer. I think its to heavy for most skin. I have read that it works for a lot of other people, so I wonder what they use it with because this is not working for me.

As someone with combination skin, I have always had difficulty finding a good moisturiser. Within a few hours of leaving my house, my t-zone would be super shiny. However, with just a small dab of this glorious moisturiser, I remain matte across my whole face (except for my nose [although I have definitely experienced a decrease in the amount of shine throughout the day, on my nose]). Another excellent perk is that it doesn't clog my pores and it has resulted in a noticeable decrease in the redness of my skin! I could not recommend this any more if I tried!

I've never really had a moisturizer before, so this is my first one. I love it! I have a very oily T-zone, and I use this with Dark Angels and Breath of Fresh Air. Dark Angels absorbs my oils and this moisturizer really evens out my skin! I'm amazed when I look in the mirror because my skin looks so bright!

I was hoping this product would not be too oily because i only have a VERY small amount of oil on my face. Also, at the most 2 pimples, however this was effective because my pimples shrunk and there is no sign of them coming back! The downside is, it makes my face oily throughout the day and leaves it with shine. Don't forget.. you only need to use a VERY little.

                          Comments about Imperialis Moisturizer:

I have tried tons of moisturizers and this is my holy grail product! I hate the heavy feeling of something sitting on my skin and this has been just wonderful, it soaks in seconds and leaves my skin feeling amazing. I use a little more than a pea size amount spread between my palms and dabbed on my face every day and it's enough to keep my skin happy. It takes such a small amount I've had my container since August and I shouldn't be touching the bottom of the pot till May at least!

I have red itchy patches on my cheeks and this has helped calm them down as well as keeping my t-zone from becoming oily and my forehead from being flaky, all at the same time!

Although I would buy it anyway, I also find it smells very nice and soothing. I always put this on right after my shower and before I go to bed and it just smells so lovely I look forward to putting it on.

I use Gorgeous currently, I like it but it doesn't necessarily balance my acne-prone, sensitive, dry in the winter skin. Could this cream be a better fit? Especially for the winter?

Because "Gorgeous" is quite thick, it isn't really the best for acne-prone skin. "Imperialis" is really great for balancing, but if break-outs and the need to balance are the main issue, I would highly recommend "Enzymion." "Enzymion" balances oils in the t-zone with citrus products, it also clears dead skin, which is building up oils and dirt, ultimately leading to more acne. It also replenishes the vitamins and minerals, and that regeneration would help with the winter dryness.

                                    Hi, pinkbunnies,

Can only speak personally, but I haven't noticed any pore-clogging. The moisturizer, despite having cocoa butter, is actually VERY light and fluffy feeling. It's not dense at all. It goes on your skin very smoothly and sinks in quickly, so it doesn't feel slick on your face.

We use cocoa butter in almost all of our moisturizers as it's quite lovely for the skin! If you've found that your Vanishing Cream hasn't been moisturizing enough, Enzymion or Gorgeous are also fantastic choices!

Hi! I looked for an ingredients list online re: Imperialis. I noticed that it contains parabens and there is much controversy that this ingredient may produce hormonal imbalance. I was surprised to see this ingredient in this product. I rely on lush to be natural. I am on the fence about this. Can you please provide me with more information about Lush's use of parabens and the reasons why they are used. I am trying to make an informative decision and I would like to hear your viewpoint. Thank you, Natalie

At LUSH we use fresh fruits and vegetables, the finest essential oils, and safe synthetics to create our products. In our liquid products, we need to include a preservative material to make sure that dangerous bacteria, molds, fungi and other nasties don't grow in the product and make you sick. We choose our synthetic ingredients based on a long history of safe use, and we feel that the way we use parabens (in safe quantities, and in only liquid products that need preserving) safely and as intended to keep your product from going off and making you sick.

I use this but do not have an acne problem. A very good friend does have an acne problem and uses this moisturizer. It helps just a little but certainly doesn't hurt it. She also uses Tea Tree Toner prior to application (that does help decrease pore size). I hope that helps!

In short, Imperialis can definitely work for acne-prone skin. Depending on how else you would describe your skin, there may be better options. Imperialis is great for balancing the skin, as lavender encourages dry skin to produce natural oils, and discourages oilier skin from overdoing it. For oilier, acne-prone skin we would suggest either Enzymion or Vanishing Cream.

Imperialis has a shelf-life of 14 months. We provide a sticker on the back that says when it was made, who made it, as well as when it is best used by.

It lasts for a pretty long time. Its expiration date is for about a 10 months after i bought it and if you use it daily, after the shower like me, you'll have enough for those 10 months. But, don't use too much or it can feel greasy so just a db goes a long way!

Look at the expiration date on the bottom of the pot.

The gluten protein is found in processed wheat, barley, and rye. Imperialis has none of these products and thus, gluten free.

When watching out for gluten in our products, you'll want to look for wheatgerm, wheatgrass, any manner of oats or oat milk, and yeast. Imperialis is free of these ingredients! If you'd like to avoid any possibility of cross-contamination, you may also want to avoid any soy ingredients, in which case Imperialis is still in the clear!
