Jackie Oates

Calming for sensitive skin

Jackie Oates is a light, soothing and gentle base for very pale skin types with cooler undertones, which are often sensitive and prone to redness. If you’re not sure whether you have warm or cool undertones, take a look at your wrists. Are your veins blue in color? If so, you have cooler undertones. Helen Ambrosen (LUSH co-founder) used soothing oats and honey, and the moisturizing, protective qualities of lanolin to calm and hydrate. The result? A perfect porcelain finish.

Features

  • For ivory tones: Jackie Oates is for extremely pale skin tones with a light bluish undertone.
  • Less is more: Pale skin tends to be very sensitive, so we suggest mixing your favorite moisturizer or sunscreen into your supplement.
  • Soya oil: We use soya oil in our supplements instead of mineral oil, so the skin stays flexible and nourished.

I have both freakishly pale skin AND extremely sensitive skin - not the best combination when we are talking skin products. I've never found a foundation/concealer that matched my skin tone before - and believe me I've tried!

A few years ago I ran out of the stuff I was using (it was not the right color but was as close as I could find) and after months of time and too much money trying to find a replacement, gave up. Fast forward to a month ago in England on vacation where a friend and I stopped into a LUSH on a whim. I browsed a little until a lovely sales assistant checks in and we get to chatting about skin. I explained the freakishly pale issue and she brightened up. "I've just the thing!"

And she did. My skin looks amazing, and feels unbelievably good after I put this on, AND after I take it off. I haven't had any issues with allergic reactions - which is completely new.

The only (MINOR) issue I've got with this is that it doesn't quite have the level of coverage I want on bad-skin days. I'm not sure if I'd prefer more color or a thicker base - again, MINOR - the color is amazing, and what it does for my skin is beyond compare.

Keep up the amazing work - I can't wait to see what more will come out of LUSH!

I must be the only person. It is too dark on me. I always have this issue. I have found three foundations in my lifetime that are pale enough for me, so it is not a surprise. Other than that, I would love it. A little trial and error until you find what works for you. Just keep in mind, if you have oily skin that oil and water usually do not mix and will lead to the mid morning slide. That goes for skin care as well as makeup. I found this did not last as long as I usually need makeup to last. It was about average. It actually almost sinks into your skin. Coverage can quite easily go from thin to thick. Just be aware of what you are using to mix with it, for the best longevity. Also keep in mind our bodies are mostly water. If you want to truly hydrate skin, it takes water. Oil lubricates, and holds the moisture in (which is not really something that oily skin needs). Bottom line I like it for dry to normal skin. I think if you are oily and pale, there are better natural options (and when weight is considered they really are not much more expensive). On a positive note, glad that lush went with liquid/creams. Not a fan of powder foundations. They dehydrate the skin. Which leads to an over production of oil, and often clogged pores.

      Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

I just purchased this product on a whim, and I am so glad I did!

I don't have serious skin issues (anymore), but I DO have oily areas and redness around my mouth and nose. I am pretty pasty as well.

I cleansed my face, toned with tea tree oil, moisturized with Enzymion...then I applied Jackie Oates lightly over my whole face, focusing in my redder areas. It blends perfectly into my skin and went on smoothly just using my fingertips. Nice, smooth, flawless and--most importantly--NATURAL-looking face once done.

I have dark, undereye circles, so this product isn't quite opaque enough to deal with those, but that's okay.

It's only been about 2.5 hours of wear, but I'm not shiny and greasy yet, so I am optimistic! My face looks and feels smooth, flawless and dewy.

      Not Enough Shades

            Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

With acne-prone skin, I'm always on the look out for something that will heal and hide my face. Organic makeup? A rare find! However, the shades are odd and don't work for everyone. I'm paler but wasn't expecting to be the lightest shade they have, especially since I've gained some color. In the winter this shade won't even work! It is a thick formula, which is why they recommend mixing it with your moisturizer, but that also gives you lighter coverage. I wish they had more shades so it would work for me, and I wish I didn't have to sacrifice coverage for the ability to blend it into my skin. If you don't need full/medium coverage and you don't have pale skin, this makeup will probably work better for you. Lush, make more shades and make more makeup products! I need them.

Like everyone who has written reviews for Jackie Oates, I have incredibly fair skin, and had only been able to find one other foundation which matched my colour: NARS Sheer Glow in Siberia, but it caused my skin to break out and did not suit my dry skin. Once I got the application down (I found a round-top foundation brush provided the easiest application) this is now my go-to foundation year round. Were the colour even a smidge darker, it wouldn't match my skin, but it really suits me. Thank you, Lush!

Finally! I'm so pale that I've never actually found a foundation or concealer that matched my skin. To give you an indication, I usually use covergirl classic ivory concealer, and that is a little too dark for me, but it was the lightest concealer I've ever found. This just blends right in! No orange-y tones. I don't look like I'm wearing a powdery mask. I thought this color might be too light for me based on reviews, but I'm happy I took a chance and ordered Jackie Oates instead of Light Pink. This is super easy to apply as well, even by itself.

I have extremely pale skin, and I could never find a foundation that fit my skin color. I would always end up getting the lightest color they had in stock, and having to even it out with a bronzer. This product matches my skin perfectly! I also have extremely sensitive combonation skin and it has done wonders for evening out my skin tone. I alternate between using it straight and a moisturizer! I love it:) The only complaint is that it is a bit oily, and I have to use a light finishing powder over it to get the moisture out. However, the oil is a minor inconvenience and I will still continue to use this every day!

I've been searching forever for a foundation that matches my skin tone. I'm of a mixed ethnicity but have very fair skin with little to no pink in my skin making it so almost all other colors made me look sunburnt or sallow. This changed all that. I used to use a different tinted moisturizer (a much more expensive one no less) that didn't blend into my skin as nicely. I mix this with a bit of lotion and use it as a tinted moisturizer on casual days and use it straight when I want more coverage. It makes my skin glowy, fresh, and naturally flawless. I would (and have) recommended this to anyone with pale skin. Once again lush has outdone themselves!

                        Comments about LUSH Jackie Oates:

I am so happy that LUSH has been dabbling in color cosmetics since I've been out of the LUSH loop.

I purchased both this shade and LP-which was too pink. This shade is ideal for us pale, sometimes sallow-complexioned gals that find most foundations too pink or orange. This is like my skin-tone, only better. I love the natural look and glow I get from wearing it.

For minimal coverage, I apply over my vanishing cream, and blend, and I'm done.

For more coverage, I apply it after my skin has soaked up the VC, and I build coverage where needed. Then I follow with a dusting of setting powder if I know it's going to be a long day and a late night. It lasts well enoug on it's own, but without some sort of powder, towards the end of the day, you'll get a little on your phone screen, and have noticed some minor wearing off in a few areas. But even so, it's well worth it for an awesome foundation. It spreads well, I love the glass jar, and heck, it's LUSH, need I say more?

(If someone requires more coverage, for say rosacea or hyperpigmentation, this likely wouldn't work for you.)

I used to grumble that LUSH didn't have color makeup, and I am so pleased to see lip tints and these color supplements. I would love to see a powder.

                        :)

I didnt expect this to be that great, but it really is. It doesn't provoke any breakouts, and its a little moisturizing. Perfect coverage in par with stilla's natural finish foundation. I was a little worried that the color might be too pale since in the picture its paper white looking but its actually perfect, no orange look to it, like the lightest color of the E.L.F. cosmetics. I would recomend this to everyone, all skin types.

I use this product as a foundation and a tinted moisturizer. I have tried various ways of applying this product. Mixing the supplement with a moisturizer, just using the supplement alone etc What I have found that works best is to apply after your moisturizer but before the moisturizer has fully soaked into your face. That way it is easy to blend and easier to create the desired amount of coverage you want. A perfect pick for this gal who could never find a pale enough foundation to match her skin tone. :)

This product did take me a while to figure out how to use but here are some tips and advice I can give based on my experience.

                                  1) I would mix it up a bit when you get it. The first few times I used it, I found it to be too watery and did not cover very well, but once I got into the pot a bit more, I did enjoy the mousse texture of the cream and it appeared to cover much better.

                                  2) Thinly layer areas you want more covereage on. I do that with my under eye circles and blemishes and I always feel like it covers better without clogging pore or irritating my skin like other products I have used in the past.

                                  3) I find I only need to use about a fingertip's dot of product to cover my face - because this product does not matte skin's appearance, I personally do not like to put a lot on. I just use a little to even out my skin's texture - also this helps it blend to my coloring better!

                                  4) I let my moisturizer dry a bit before I apply. I know that people swear by mixing the two, but when I tried that, it just streaked across my face and I could never get it to apply evenly and absorb into my skin well. I usually moisturize, brush my teeth and then apply my color and I find that works better for my skin.

I was not sold on this product when I first began using it, but because it moisturizes and calms skin without making my skin feel dirty, or coming off on my phone (like my old concealer/foundation did) - I am not sold after trying it out for a while and finding what works best for me.

I'm so happy there's a pale product out there that matches my skin well and makes it look and feel better with daily use!

I can't say enough great things about this product. After going to my local Lush store a few weeks ago, I walked out with a sample of Jackie Oates, a product I had been curious about. The tiny sample has lasted for ages, so I feel comfortable with the price for the full-size product. It is extremely blendable and light in feel and texture on my skin. It doesn't feel like I'm wearing anything, but my skin looks much more even. I am acne-prone at the moment, but this product does not irritate blemishes or cause me to break out further. My only real gripe is that it does not have much coverage for blemishes or scars, though I'd take the lightweight feel over heavy coverage any day!! It also tends to make me quite greasy a few hours after applying, but I am ok with blotting my face.

After using my previous tinted moisturizer the other day (another natural brand), I realized how much I enjoy Jackie Oates. My other brand looked a lot heavier on my face and much more noticeable. Jackie Oates definitely gives me a fresher look!!

I have very fair skin with pinky undertones. I read all the reviews for this product before I went to my local Lush to try it out. I noticed some other people were in the same boat as me-- they tried everything under the sun and still couldn't find the right color/texture/coverage for their fair skin. I have used literally EVERYTHING, bare escentuals, clinique, laura mercier, fresh, smashbox, drug store brands, and MAC. Either these products clogged my pores and made my break outs worse, they couldn't cover enough, or soaked into my skin half way through the day and made me look as if I didn't even put any make-up on. The Jackie Oats Colour Supplement is like one of those magical products a girl can't live without. The jar is small, but there is a good amount of foundation in it and I don't have to use a lot because it builds well. Also I have spent over double the money for products that don't work so I am okay with the price, too! In the store the girl that helped me mixed some of the Jackie Oats with the Vanishing Cream... for my skin type (sensitive, acne prone) it really improved the texture and look of my face. I highly recommend it!

I was skeptical at first because I have used alot of sensitive skin based products and have always had amazing skin disasters. It came in a tiny jar (which kind of took me back, I thought it was a tad pricey) but hey if it works, I was game. I used it last night and again this morning as a foundation. It helped to dry out 4 whiteheads I had overnight and as a foundation it feels so light and airy. Not pore clogging and greasy and I was surprised that it gives a perfect coverage! And it matches my "china doll" skin coloring perfectly!

I have very fair skin, and have a difficult time finding the right shade that is light enough but doesn't leave me looking chalky. I just pat this on with my fingertips. It is light and dewey; doesn't make my skin feel "dirty" like most other liquid foundation. Just gives enough natural looking coverage to make me look smooth and even but not made up. A tiny little pot lasts forever. I love it, so clean and fresh, does not irritate or break out my sensitive skin.

I've been using the Light Pink for a while, and I love it, but when I saw Jackie Oates I thought it would be perfect to add to the Light Pink. I was right! I am very pale, but I have very pink undertones, so both colors mix well to match my skin. I mix them on the back of my hand and use a foundation brush to apply (because I'm prone to breakouts and don't like touching my face if I don't have to, so the brush gives a nice finish without undue hand-to-face time). Then I use Jackie Oates alone as concealer on my remaining red areas and under my eyes. Flawless finish that covers without drying like a powder or making me break out.

This color is great for my very pale face. I have a lot of trouble finding colors to match my skin tone since most appear yellow on me. This little jar is perfect! It is very light coverage, but works well enough for what I need it to do. I use a damp makeup sponge and apply the JO a tiny bit at a time all around my face, and dab more concentrated amounts on with my finger to cover blemishes. When I'm having a good skin day this is all I need. I'm so glad I tried this!
