Calming for sensitive skin

Jackie Oates is a light, soothing and gentle base for very pale skin types with cooler undertones, which are often sensitive and prone to redness. If you’re not sure whether you have warm or cool undertones, take a look at your wrists. Are your veins blue in color? If so, you have cooler undertones. Helen Ambrosen (LUSH co-founder) used soothing oats and honey, and the moisturizing, protective qualities of lanolin to calm and hydrate. The result? A perfect porcelain finish.

Features

  • For ivory tones: Jackie Oates is for extremely pale skin tones with a light bluish undertone.
  • Less is more: Pale skin tends to be very sensitive, so we suggest mixing your favorite moisturizer or sunscreen into your supplement.
  • Soya oil: We use soya oil in our supplements instead of mineral oil, so the skin stays flexible and nourished.

This product did take me a while to figure out how to use but here are some tips and advice I can give based on my experience.

    1) I would mix it up a bit when you get it. The first few times I used it, I found it to be too watery and did not cover very well, but once I got into the pot a bit more, I did enjoy the mousse texture of the cream and it appeared to cover much better.

    2) Thinly layer areas you want more covereage on. I do that with my under eye circles and blemishes and I always feel like it covers better without clogging pore or irritating my skin like other products I have used in the past.

    3) I find I only need to use about a fingertip's dot of product to cover my face - because this product does not matte skin's appearance, I personally do not like to put a lot on. I just use a little to even out my skin's texture - also this helps it blend to my coloring better!

    4) I let my moisturizer dry a bit before I apply. I know that people swear by mixing the two, but when I tried that, it just streaked across my face and I could never get it to apply evenly and absorb into my skin well. I usually moisturize, brush my teeth and then apply my color and I find that works better for my skin.

I was not sold on this product when I first began using it, but because it moisturizes and calms skin without making my skin feel dirty, or coming off on my phone (like my old concealer/foundation did) - I am not sold after trying it out for a while and finding what works best for me.

I'm so happy there's a pale product out there that matches my skin well and makes it look and feel better with daily use!

I must be the only person. It is too dark on me. I always have this issue. I have found three foundations in my lifetime that are pale enough for me, so it is not a surprise. Other than that, I would love it. A little trial and error until you find what works for you. Just keep in mind, if you have oily skin that oil and water usually do not mix and will lead to the mid morning slide. That goes for skin care as well as makeup. I found this did not last as long as I usually need makeup to last. It was about average. It actually almost sinks into your skin. Coverage can quite easily go from thin to thick. Just be aware of what you are using to mix with it, for the best longevity. Also keep in mind our bodies are mostly water. If you want to truly hydrate skin, it takes water. Oil lubricates, and holds the moisture in (which is not really something that oily skin needs). Bottom line I like it for dry to normal skin. I think if you are oily and pale, there are better natural options (and when weight is considered they really are not much more expensive). On a positive note, glad that lush went with liquid/creams. Not a fan of powder foundations. They dehydrate the skin. Which leads to an over production of oil, and often clogged pores.

I HATE foundation. I HATE powder. But as I'm getting older, I feel the need to use something. I got a small sample at the local store, and first off, let me tell you, it's lasted me a while. I just blend a bit into my moisturizer and rub it on. Evens out just a bit, and my face doesn't feel greasy, and nothing get's stuck in any lines. I really like it, because it does what I want it to, and I don't feel like I'm wearing anything.

Comments about Jackie Oates colour supplement:

I like to keep my skin as pale as possible but it's hard to find a foundation that will do it nicely. This stuff really supports my natural tone and balances it in my favor for a nice glowy porcelain shade. It goes on really evenly and smoothly and feels good, too. It has melded well with all of my other makeup products, too. It does have a bit of a weird smell that you can notice for most of the day... hard to describe, but a lot of makeup does have a strange scent, so that wasn't a big surprise.

The only disappointment is that it's not very opaque, which makes it good for other things and working as a sheer layer, but I would like more coverage. While not rubbing it in as much is certainly an option, it's hard to get an even tone if I don't rub it in.

It did make my chin break out a little bit but I really expect that with any new product, especially one I wear all day!

Overall though this is a great foundation. Makes me feel super pretty!

This stuff is a dream-come-true! Having brown freckles paired with a very fair, very cool skin tone, I find it extremely difficult to find a base that looks normal on me. I'm so happy Jackie Oats came into my life! My skin is no longer red and blotchy. It looks as if I'm not wearing makeup, and my skin is just this beautiful. I apply it with a kabuki brush all over directly after moisturizing with Skin Drink. I follow up with Emotional Brilliance Transluscent Powder. My skin is glowing (and I've never been able to say that before)! :)

I was not sure if I should order the JO or light pink. I have fair skin, although I am not as fair as I was 15 years ago. I take a long time to tan and use SPF 30 during the summer. I have a cool undertone but skin pinks easily. I spoke with someone from Lush and they recommended JO. I read other reviews on it and when I applied it the 1st time did what a lot of others had receommended- mixed a tiny bit with the moisturizer I was going to apply to my face. This worked out great. It blended right in and feels flawless, silky and smooth!

Comments about Jackie Oates colour supplement:

*I couldn't find where I had written a review, so I thought I'd add one after a year of using this product*

I have been using JO for over a year, and have been extremely impressed with it's performance. I still have about 1/4 a jar left, with nearly daily use. It's given me great, sheer coverage, while still being able to dot to conceal blemishes. I love it with LUSH's powder, I get a great all-day set, no grease at the end of the day, nor does it transfer onto my cell phone screen and other objects.

I dab it into my skin in the AM, and blend well. I don't moisturize first, since i don't need to. The supplements sit better for me on clean, dry skin. I dust powder over my face, and I'm done, fast and easy.

This shade is very pale, with a blue "cast" for us folks without any rosy glow or yellow undertone. I read below that it was too dark for some people, which I find odd, since it is ghostly pale like myself-it resembles the color of cream in the jar. I think some batches may have just turned out darker than others.

I recommend mixing it up with something sterile, to make sure all the pigments are blended well. There was an oily bit at the surface that threw me off at first, until I mixed it.

Cap this product TIGHT, or it will evaporate. The residue in the cap makes a great concealer, FYI.

I would love to see LUSH make a sunscreen. Not that I need it much in Alaska, save for the few summer months...

This is a fab product, and worth a try if you have sensitive, pale skin.

I've been using this product every day since April, and I still have a good half of a pot left. A little goes a very long way! I use this mixed with Celestial as a tinted moisturizer, which helps to even out my skin tone. It also serves as a very effective concealer WHEN APPLIED TO CLEAN SKIN. I've found it to be quite temperamental when trying to conceal a blemish later in the day. If you do need to touch up midday, you may want to consider having a cleansing cloth with you to clean the area before application. I love how I don't have to worry about aggravating the spot I'm trying to conceal when I use this.

The BEST thing about this product is that it CAN effectively diminish the appearance of dark under eye circles. For the longest time I tried to use it just by itself for this and had a lot of trouble getting it to just stay put. HOWEVER, I have just discovered that it works perfectly when combined with my eye cream. Yay!!

I'm no fan of foundation and they don't seem to like me much either. My skin is very sensitive and foundations wreak havoc upon it. They either break me out, dry me out, make me itch, etc... and I hate looking like I'm wearing a mask. I've always preferred a tinted moisturizer, but they were never light enough and always seemed to have a very yellow base tone to them that never worked for me. This mixed with my moisturizer of choice is perfect and it can adjust the coverage level of it by changing the color to moisturizer ratio. It takes a little time to figure out the right blend and amount to use, but once you've got it, it's a perfect product.

I reviewed this product months ago, and I have discovered one more neat thing/pro. The residue that builds up in the cap, as is normal for anything wet in a jar, makes a wonderful, more concentrated concealer. There must be a pretty hight water content, since the product can evaporate fast if the lid isn't tight. But the upside is the matching, built-in concealer.

On a semi-related note, since we are all aware of the need of sun protection, and the supplements do not contain any, LUSH should make us a sunscreen, right? (hint hint)

I just purchased this product on a whim, and I am so glad I did!

I don't have serious skin issues (anymore), but I DO have oily areas and redness around my mouth and nose. I am pretty pasty as well.

I cleansed my face, toned with tea tree oil, moisturized with Enzymion...then I applied Jackie Oates lightly over my whole face, focusing in my redder areas. It blends perfectly into my skin and went on smoothly just using my fingertips. Nice, smooth, flawless and--most importantly--NATURAL-looking face once done.

I have dark, undereye circles, so this product isn't quite opaque enough to deal with those, but that's okay.

It's only been about 2.5 hours of wear, but I'm not shiny and greasy yet, so I am optimistic! My face looks and feels smooth, flawless and dewy.

With acne-prone skin, I'm always on the look out for something that will heal and hide my face. Organic makeup? A rare find! However, the shades are odd and don't work for everyone. I'm paler but wasn't expecting to be the lightest shade they have, especially since I've gained some color. In the winter this shade won't even work! It is a thick formula, which is why they recommend mixing it with your moisturizer, but that also gives you lighter coverage. I wish they had more shades so it would work for me, and I wish I didn't have to sacrifice coverage for the ability to blend it into my skin. If you don't need full/medium coverage and you don't have pale skin, this makeup will probably work better for you. Lush, make more shades and make more makeup products! I need them.

Like everyone who has written reviews for Jackie Oates, I have incredibly fair skin, and had only been able to find one other foundation which matched my colour: NARS Sheer Glow in Siberia, but it caused my skin to break out and did not suit my dry skin. Once I got the application down (I found a round-top foundation brush provided the easiest application) this is now my go-to foundation year round. Were the colour even a smidge darker, it wouldn't match my skin, but it really suits me. Thank you, Lush!

I have very sensitive and pale skin so I thought I would try something from lush that is all natural. NOT what I expected even mixing it with a moisturizer it was very had to blend and it felt very heavy! But it was my perfect color which is hard to find :)

Finally! I'm so pale that I've never actually found a foundation or concealer that matched my skin. To give you an indication, I usually use covergirl classic ivory concealer, and that is a little too dark for me, but it was the lightest concealer I've ever found. This just blends right in! No orange-y tones. I don't look like I'm wearing a powdery mask. I thought this color might be too light for me based on reviews, but I'm happy I took a chance and ordered Jackie Oates instead of Light Pink. This is super easy to apply as well, even by itself.

I have extremely pale skin, and I could never find a foundation that fit my skin color. I would always end up getting the lightest color they had in stock, and having to even it out with a bronzer. This product matches my skin perfectly! I also have extremely sensitive combonation skin and it has done wonders for evening out my skin tone. I alternate between using it straight and a moisturizer! I love it:) The only complaint is that it is a bit oily, and I have to use a light finishing powder over it to get the moisture out. However, the oil is a minor inconvenience and I will still continue to use this every day!

I've been searching forever for a foundation that matches my skin tone. I'm of a mixed ethnicity but have very fair skin with little to no pink in my skin making it so almost all other colors made me look sunburnt or sallow. This changed all that. I used to use a different tinted moisturizer (a much more expensive one no less) that didn't blend into my skin as nicely. I mix this with a bit of lotion and use it as a tinted moisturizer on casual days and use it straight when I want more coverage. It makes my skin glowy, fresh, and naturally flawless. I would (and have) recommended this to anyone with pale skin. Once again lush has outdone themselves!

I currently use Bare Minerals foundation and love it. If anyone has use BM before how does Lush's foundation compare? I'm mainly concerned with durability (I live in TX so I'll be sweating this summer) and I also don't want it rubbing off easily. Thank you!

Will this product make me break out? I have very sensitive, acne prone skin.
