I just want to preface this very long and detailed review by saying that this is my personal experience with ONE BAR of Karma Komba over an extended period of time, in which many things changed (hair length, conditioner, etc). Nonetheless, I hope this is useful!

Background: I have a LOT of very straight Asian hair that leans toward the soft side with dryer tips and oilier roots. When I first started using Karma Komba, it was layered and medium length with the longest layer reaching about 2 in past my shoulders. By the time the bar was finished, my hair was layered, bleached, and long with the longest layer reaching just past my armpits.

The scent: I wasn't a huge fan of it at first, but it really grew on me and all of my male friends always loved the way I smelled whenever I used this. At first, it seemed to stay in my hair until the next wash with a different shampoo, but as the bar got smaller, the scent tended to linger for shorter amounts of time. This may have been due to changes in conditioner though.

Functionality: This was my first solid shampoo and I was pleasantly surprised at how it lathered and cleaned just as well. Just like any other shampoo, it didn't clean as well towards the end, but this is mostly attributed to the fact that there's just less of it.

Longevity/Value: I bought this little bar back in May 2011 and it just ran out in this past October. My hair tends to "get used to" shampoos within a month, so I didn't use it exclusively these past 1.5 years, but I kept track and can confidently say that I used the bar 101 times. (I'm in a family of scientists, so quantitative data is VERY important to me.) As a comparison, I finished a 6oz bottle of shampoo after 58 uses, so I'd say that its longevity is comparable to a regular 13oz. HOWEVER, its bar form makes air travel much easier, if you're like me and prefer to put your toiletries in your carry-on bag just in case your luggage is lost.

How I used it: I found that the best way for me was to wet the bar slightly before swiping it through my hair. At the beginning, I would just do two vertical swipes of the bar on the top, then flip my hair over and do a single vertical swipe down the middle of the bottom layers. As my hair grew, I had to adjust the number of swipes (two on top and two on bottom, then 3 on top and two on bottom, etc). Towards the end, the bar started to fall apart (as expected), making the swipes pretty tiny, so I just kind of crumbled the pieces into my wet hair and just moved my head in and out of the stream of water while working the product in until I had an adequate amount of lather.

Storage: After finishing swiping it through, I'd take the top of the Lush tin and put it on top of my wet bar outside of the direct stream of water, then flip it over and let it dry outside the shower. Once dry, I'd put the lid with the bar attached on the bottom of the tin and shake until I heard the bar come loose within. I found that this way, there's less water collecting in the tin and more of the bar staying together as one piece.

Verdict: Karma Komba didn't move the earth for me, but it's definitely effective as a shampoo. The scent makes me smile now, though at first, it just puzzled me. Apparently boys like it though. The bar lasted for a similar amount of uses as a regular 13oz bottled shampoo, but was more ideal for air travel. Overall, I'd say this is a handy little shampoo and it's pretty cool to use. Would I repurchase? Probably. I want to try Lush's other solid shampoos though!

This shampoo bar is extremely drying to curly, coily hair. While using this it elongated my curls and provided a bit of volume but failed to detangle because of the harsh drying effects.This product mated my curls causing tangles and knots. The only good thing is that it cleans the grim off hair and contains a pleasant smell that lasts all day.

I have very thick coarse hair and often have to use extra product to get a lather. This product lathered up with only a few rubs on my head. Love the scent and it rinses out very easily. My hair looked full and shiny. I think its ideal for travel.

I tried this shampoo a few years ago and liked it well enough, but recently i decided to give it another go. First off, i LOVE the Karma fragrance. I have self-care issues due to mental illness and this actually makes me WANT to shower, just to get that scent again.

Since my hair is longer, i give it a few swipes around my scalp area, then lather some up on my hands for the ends, which seems to work really well. It gives a lovely lather, not too thick but just enough so you know you're getting good and clean.

I cant say i've noticed it detangling my hair any more than any other shampoo does, but my hair gets really knotty when i wash it anyway, and it doesnt make the knottiness worse so that doesnt really bother me.

Pair it with the Jungle conditioner and your hair will look and smell like HEAVEN. I dont even need to bother with perfume or anything on the days i wash my hair because i smell so awesome from the combo. My hair is softer, sleeker and brighter, and has heaps more volume (it tends to be a bit lank and flat with other shampoos). It cleans so well that you can wash your hair every other day without it looking greasy.

This product scores 12/10, it really is a must-have.

I was "no-poo" for a year, and my hair became longer, and I work in a hospital I felt dirtier in a way. Plus I think I missed the scents of shampoo. I wanted to ease into something more natural and tried this one. (seanik will be next!) and I love it. Smells great, and my hair is still soft (maybe not quite as soft as with Vinegar, but better than other shampoos) I'd say if you're on the fence, give it a try!

I bought a shower caddy I could hang higher up so my lush soaps can air out between uses and don't get splashed with unnecessary water when I'm not using them. :)

I got the Karma Komba as a freebie when my local store opened. I had already fallen in love with Lush and couldn't wait to use the solid shampoo. That being said, this is probably the worst shampoo I've ever used. I have hair that has been bleached, dyed, and straightened like crazy and never had problems with humidity until I started using this shampoo. It really dried my hair out BAD and my hair never felt more like straw in my life despite my hair coloring habits. Any sort of humidity and my hair was a mess. I paired this shampoo with the American Cream conditioner (which also didn't seem to work for me). I used the whole bar (painfully) and then bought a John Frieda shampoo and conditioner afterwards and my hair was back to normal. Pretty disappointed with the product, but I love lots of other Lush items.

Wow, I bought this on a whim not really sure how I'd feel about it. I smelled it in the store and it smelled the best out of all the solid shampoos that were there. So; just tried it tonight and WOW i am TOTALLY SOLD!!! It lathered like magic! It felt so great on my scalp! i really like it and think it'll be awesome for traveling. Now I don't have to buy small 3 oz bottles of liquid shampoo to take with me on short trips. My BF is going to love the smell, too..its so sexy. On the con side, i have thin hair and this didn't thicken it up any. Currently my hair is a little on the dry side; although my hair looks super shiny and healthy, I don't think it added conditioning to my hair - I didn't use conditioner purposely to see if this solid would add moisture.

Overall - will def buy this again. Awesome product!

this is my first time using this kind of product. i dont even use bar soap so i was a little taken back, but it was a gift(freebie) so i didnt mind giving it a try. its been a few hours since i used the product and my hair which normally without conditioner gets frizzy and dry it actually pretty tame and feels pretty moist. only thing that is a deal breaker, is that it kind of smells too strong. the lemongrass is overwhelming. i LOVE avobath (bath bomb) which has lemongrass but its not as strong as this so =T but overall this is pretty good, would i go and purchase it, eh probably not

I got Karma Komba as a free gift for going to the grand opening of a new LUSH store. I smelt it, and at first thought the scent was overpowering and not that great. But, I wanted to try a solid shampoo, so I used it anyway. I lathered in on the top of my head a few times and the payoff was great. I was able to lather my super long hair without using a lot of the product at all! And, happily the scent wasnt as strong when I rinsed, and actually smells rather pleasant. And the best is it got rid of all my knots, which NEVER happen. My hair goes down to my waist, and is super thick, but after I took it out of being in an eloborate braid, it was still so easy to brush through. Definitely buying this again!

I walked into LUSH to get another tub of Curly Wurly and caught a whiff of this Karma Komba! I used it as soon as I got home, planning on using R&B to help condition afterwards, but the oils in this shampoo made my scalp and hair feel incredible! I still love Curly Wurly, but Karma...I'm sold! Love everything about it :) Thank you Lush for incredible products Every time!!

This was my first time using a solid shampoo and I know that I will continue to buy these. I had no problem getting a lather on my hair. I am a black woman with natural, very curly shoulder length hair. What most people don't know is that usually the first wash does not produce a generous lather. The first wash usually removes whatever oil and buildup is on the hair. After you rinse, the second wash is usually what gets the job done.

I made sure my hair was nice and wet, with very warm water, wet my hands and got some water on the shampoo bar, and did as the instructions said: run the bar down the left and right sides and the back of the head. I had no problems with this method. Sure there was not a lot of lather produces like with liquid shampoos, but the lather is what dries out your hair! Those who are experiencing dry and damaged hair from this product are probably using too much of the shampoo in order to get a lather which I strongly believe is the problem.

I usually have to wash my hair in sections because it tangles. But when I used this shampoo I had NO tangles! My hair felt more moisturized than with any other shampoo that I have used recently and I could see the difference when I got out of the shower. My wide tooth comb rand easily through my hair and putting my leave-in conditioners was not problem! I will definitely be purchasing solid shampoo bars from now on!

I love the smell of this bar, and I use it when I don't have anything else. But honestly, it tends to roughen up my hair a bit and make it feel dry in the shower. My hair is FINE but thick; as in each individual hair is small, but altogether I have a lot of hair with a nice amount of volume. I received this for free at the LUSH Grand Opening Party at my nearby mall that just opened about 2-3 months ago. I got it because I was one of the first 100 people to RSVP to the party. It has an enchanting, patchouli fragrance to it, which is probably it's biggest plus. I must confess that i will stick with my ultimate shine shampoo, which is less harsh but works wonders. I wash my hair every 2-3 days, and it does not get very oily but does start to get tangley and flat so I wash it when that starts to happen. If you have very healthy oily hair, maybe this would work for you, but NOT if your hair is dry. (:

As a swimmer, Karma Komba is the only way I can maintain my long, super thick hair. I can't get away with only washing my hair once in the shower, and with the smell of KK, I don't want to skimp on a second wash! The smell lasts forever, and really is nice. I didn't buy a tin for my Karma Komba, but I set it aside on a soap dish until it dries before putting the dish (that also holds my Fresh Farmacy) into a drawer. I have no problems with it melting or turning mushy- just let it dry! As soon as I get out of the shower, I run a wide tooth comb through my hair and am ready to go. I don't need any other products to keep my hair managable!

I have the luck (I guess you could call it that) of having dry, wavy, fine hair that requires alot of love to look good. I also work a very dirty job that requires a daily hair washing, so I need something that cleans well without destroying my hair.I have tried so many shampoos and conditioners over the years and I decided to give the solid shampoos a chance. Boy am I glad I did!

I love the Karma scent and I already use the soap, body lotion and bubble bar regularly, so I knew this would go well.

The bar is very easy to use. It takes me three strokes through my hair to get a good lather. It cleanses thoroughly without killing the moisture in my hair. I still follow up with Veganese but that is because of the normal dryness of my hair.

I was so excited about the idea of a solid shampoo bar, as I go through the liquid grocery store stuff so quickly. I am totally obsessed with the Karma fragrence and that is definately why I tried out this shampoo. It lathers so quick it has taken me over 3 months to use the whole thing (and that is between my UBER thick head of hair and my hubby's equally thick hair so that's impressive). The only downside is that it seems to dry out my hair quite a bit which is especially bad in the summer when I am out in the dusty sun multiple days a week. That is the only downside and I would reccomend this shampoo bar to anyone who is NOT prone to dry hair and it smells good all day!!

This is the first solid shampoo bar I used. I didn't expect the tons of rich lather it gave me! It left my hair (and hands) feeling soft and clean. Love it. Left my hair feeling clean but not stripped of moisture. Thank you Lush!

This is the first item I purchased from lush. I thought the idea of a solid shampoo was brilliant - and Im glad I tried it.

I have thin, slightly oily hair. This gets it squeaky clean for sure. The smell is absolutely intoxicating.

You definitely need a conditioner though, because after using it without conditioner for a week I found my ends were really dry. I started using Veganese with it and now everything is perfect and back to normal.

The salesperson first showed me how to lather in my hands and then apply that to my hair - but that didn't get much lather at all. After reading reviews here, I now swipe it along the top of my hair twice and the underside twice, and I get TONS of lather.

Great job Lush! Will always keep coming back for this one.

I used this bar for the first time today and I love the results! I was already a huge fan of Karma, so I figured Karma-scented hair was the next step! Loved the smell in the shower, but I was also really impressed with how soft, shiny, and thick my hair felt after! I didn't even use conditioner or blow dry, but it looks and feels like I did! So glad this wonderful scent comes in so many great products!!! I would highly recommend reading through the solid shampoo descriptions and trying one that sounds like a good fit for you!
