I wanted a hair mask to make my hair smooth and shiny, and an associate at Lush actually recommended that I use Marilyn. I was wary because I know it's meant for blondes. I was afraid it would leave my hair with some weird coloring because I have medium brown hair (natural). I didn't want it to be brassy or orange-ish.

I finally worked up the courage to use it, and I fell in love! I have very long hair, but I do not think that you need a lot. I get my hair a little damp with a spray bottle and then work in about a quarter of the pot. I leave it in for as long as possible, at least 30 minutes but as long as overnight if you can. When I wash it out I don't use shampoo or conditioner, I just make sure to get it out as much as possible with cold water.

It leaves my hair so soft and perfumed! My hair looks shiny, healthy, and smooth after using Marilyn. It does not lighten my brown hair, so don't worry! It definitely helps to bring out natural highlights and undertones. It gives a lot of dimension to my hair and kind of makes it look as if I went and got a glaze at the salon.

I would use it maybe every three weeks or so, or if you feel that your hair looks dry or dull.

Marilyn isn't just for blondes!

Honestly, the only reason this doesn't get the full rating is because the scent is ever-so-slightly lackluster. However, the product is GREAT at keeping my natural blonde hair looking shinier, softer, and healthier -- even adds a bit of brightness to it, too. I usually keep it on for well over the suggested 20 minutes (more like an hour or two!)

It is totally a must-have product if you're not so good with getting trims every 4-6 weeks (like me who goes for, um, months without one!)

I bought a pot of this today, and actually used it as a conditioner after shampooing rather than a leave-in deep conditioning treatment (as recommended by my trusty sales associate). I have thick, dry hair (but my scalp gets pretty oily after a couple days), and struggle finding a balance with my shampoo/conditioner because I can't wash my hair every day--otherwise it feels like a horse's tail. I also am not a blonde, but have blonde highlights. As heavy as this is as a deep conditioning treatment, it's actually a great conditioner--moisturizing without being heavy. I applied this just on my ends (working up a little towards my crown & stopped there), and left it in for about 3-4 minutes while I washed my body before rinsing. My hair is super soft without feeling weighed down. As far as brightening my blondes, it's a very subtle difference; maybe with time it'll be noticeable, but honestly it's not a huge deal--I'm happy enough with the results I've gotten already. So if you're already a die-hard Marilyn fan or looking for a different kind of conditioner, give this a try.

Wow. Seriously. I tried this on a whim after reading previous reviews on the site. I am a natural brunette but highlight my hair. I had a horrible experience at a salon back in May that resulted in severe damage to my hair and a horrible color job. My hair was brassy, orange, and dry. I have since switched salons and have spent tons of money on color, treatments, and products to help get my hair back to healthy. I received Marilyn in the mail today after ordering at the end of the week (score one for Lush's amazingly quick shipping and handling of orders!). It was my day off work so I immediately went to work at giving it a try. I used not even a 1/4 of the tub (I have medium, shoulder-length hair that is fairly thick). I left it on about 25 minutes and let it sit while I folded laundry. Afterwards I hopped in the shower and washed my hair with my usual shampoo and conditioner (Bumble and Bumble Gentle Shampoo and Super Rich Conditioner). I just started blow drying my hair and had to stop. I couldn't believe that I actually can see a difference in my highlights. It's time to go to the salon again, my roots have grown out a bit, and I'm starting to get some brassiness showing through again. However, this product pulled out some of the brassiness I had in my hair and really brightened my blonde quite a bit. Plus my hair feels AMAZING! I expected it to help, but I was really shocked at how well this work. I'm a believer! Thank you Marilyn!

I purchased this because it was labelled for blondes, which I am. However, it was kinda greasy! I've been using it differently than Lush suggests by applying it to my entire head and wrapping my hair in a towel to sleep on before I go to bed, then rinsing it out and shampooing/conditioning afterward. It has done wonderful things for my dry hair! It's a fabulous deep conditioner for a once a month treatment, but probably not more often. I would recommend it for those with dry hair.

I'm not a natural Blonde: my hair are bleached and very dry and damaged.
I'm not impressed by this product. It didn't do any bad to my hair, but didn't improve anything neither... My hair look exactely the same before and after a treatment, so I feel like I wasted my money.
I used this product twice a week, 30 minutes before my shower/shampoo for 2 months. I even tried to let it sit overnight on my hair, and again, I didn't notice any difference. It really didn't do anything for me.

I LOVED THIS! I bleached my hair last week, and used a deep conditioner right away, and used the same deep conditioner again after toning my hair. Then, yesterday, I put this stuff on for about 25 minutes, rinsed it out, shampooed my roots with Shimmer Lights shampoo for blondes, and then used the same hair conditioner I had used previously. This time, my hair was A LOT shinier and SO SO MUCH less tangly! I can run my hands through my hair! I will definitely keep buying this product! ALSO: I personally loved the smell. I found the chamomile aspect very soothing. But that's just me!

I almost always try new products with Lush, but every time I empty a tub of this stuff, I replace it with the same. I'm about about the darkest blonde, so my color doesn't change much, but I find the light penetrates my hair more, when I use this product, if that makes any sense.

I'm a guy with a medium-long men's cut. I'm about a medium-blond. I don't even know what it really did, but my hair is kinda glowing, and seems a little blonder, but not necessarily... a different color? It's a really neat product, I'm absolutely going to use this again. My hair is super soft normally, and I even noticed a difference in how nourished it felt. Pretty easy to use, as long as you don't get drippy globs all over the floor.

I really did not expect this to work, but when a salesperson in the store in Lahaina recommended it, I decided to try it. I just recently died my hair back to its original color which is blonde and it needed a little help. Marilyn actually made my hair lighter and softer as well! I love this and will definitely get it again and again!

Wow is all I have to say about this product. I have a reddish tint to my hair, with blonde highlights. It's thick, frizzy, wavy and very long. I put this on dry hair, wrapped it in a towel and left it on for about 30 minutes. I shampooed and conditioned my hair like normal and could already feel how amazing my hair felt. I let my hair air dry and the frizz was almost completely gone, and my hair was softer than it's ever been. It does leave my hair shinier and my blonde brighter, but how well it conditions is what blows my mind. This blows high end hair masks away. There is no doubt in my mind that I will keep purchasing this!! Give it a try!

I sprang for this goodie and man, I'm happy I did. My blond waves were starting to look tired and laskluster, but I didn't want to resort to damage-causing coloring to get them back in shape. Hello, Marilyn! I used 1/3 of the jar and kept it on for about an hour, then followed with Daddy-O shampoo and Retread conditioner. My hair is like buttah. So shiny and soft! My waves are refreshed, bouncy, and fabulous, and my blonde has been amped ever so slightly to a shimmery gold! SO WORTH THE MONEY.

I recommend tying a plastic bag around your head while you let Marilyn soak in, mostly to assist with absorbtion but also to help squash the delightful-yet-overpowering scent. The product texture is not thick at all...more like glue than clay. Be careful with the jar while you're buttering up, as a 'lil nudge with your elbow will cause a major spillover!

You can feel this product working it's magic! The product adds natural highlights to my sandy blonde hair. I do not apply the suggested 1/4 container to my long hair, instead I massage it throughout my hair randomly to accentuate natural highlights (in hopes that the product lasts longer).
It can also be used as a deep conditioner as well.

My complaint is how quickly I go through it. I have long hair and it doesn't seem cost effective to keep purchasing this product. I wonder if Lush could make it into a spray, maybe that would give you more bang for your buck.

I am absolutely in love with this product. It smells amazing when going on. I use it before a shower. I was told due to the length of my hair, I'd probably only get two uses out of the pot, but I barely had to use any. So I know I'll get more then that. I worked it into my hair, let it set for longer then the 10 minutes it was suggested to. Washed and dried my hair after the shower and my hair was so so shiney and healthy looking. My only complaint on it is that I wish I could find a bigger jar.

Now, I will admit, I abhor the smell of chamomile, but this product sounded so good, I just had to give it a go. However, I found no benefit to using the product. I applied it as directed, left it in for the twenty minutes, washed it out and followed with shampoo and conditioner. As soon as I got out of the shower I saw that my hair was a different colour, however that colour was a much darker blonde with hues of orange. For someone who dyes their hair a light ash blonde, I was not pleased. I'm going to try and counteract this with violet shampoo and toner until my next salon appointment, but until then I think Marilyn is going in the trash.

I bought Marilyn with hopes that it would lighten my medium/dark blonde hair to a lighter shade reminiscent of my childhood hair color - and it worked! However, I definitely didn't use the amount they say to use on my hair length because that just sounded ridiculous. My roots are the darkest, and my hair naturally lightens from there, so I really focused on the top of my head with the product. I also kept the product on for a longer period of time (around 2 hours) since my hair is thick and never takes well to any sort of color treatment. Also, I absolutely loved the smell of the product. Not gross smelling at all! And, my hair felt so soft and looked very shiny after I washed out the product. I'm very happy I am able to use a product that lightens my hair with natural ingredients rather than some nasty hair dye! :)

I have relaxed hair and I decided to do the ombre look back in March. I originally had some intense blonde ends going which I quickly got rid of for a more toned down brownish hue and caramel ends. I've been wanting to lighten the ends but did not want to damage my hair by bleaching and make my hair look terrible. I tried this and within 20 minutes I had a more sun kissed look and my hair felt soft and lovely! I only used it on my ends and used so little. The bottle will go a long way. So excited to own this myself!

I am a natural golden blonde. My hair is VERY VERY fine and a little thin. Most products are too harsh and break or dry out my hair. My hair gets a little darker in the winter and dye was always ruining the natural shine and softness I have. I bought this because I wanted to try any alternatives. It was great! It's not harsh, it's not heavy, and it brightens my hair in the winter. It keeps it soft and shiny even after styling. I recommend using it once a week.
WARNING: my sister is a brunette and tried this, it did not work as well. It kind of looked like a bad dye job.

Marylin was my first purchase here, and it was a wonderful introduction to the LUSH product line! I have strawberry blonde hair that was looking a bit dull and wasn't responding well to styling. After my first use, my curls seemed more defined and I had some shine! Basically, it brought my hair back to life, and it smelled good while doing so. I now use it once a week. Good stuff!
