Porridge is perfectly creamy--and the scent makes me want to wrap up in a blanket and be next to a fire. It gives off such a sweet, toasty fragrance. The scrubbie oats are wonderful and just the right amount.
When the bar is at its smallest (and roughest), I knead the little bits and pieces into my washcloth and lightly exfoliate my body with it. I'm a total sucker for this soap.
I even keep a slice (inside of its paper wrapper) in one of my dresser drawers to give my clothes and undergarments the same molasses scent. Honestly, it's so addicting, I take a whiff of the bar whenever I'm in the bathroom.
Just be sure to keep it far away from the shower head, as it melts quickly. Also...shake off the bubbles and water from the bar when you're done using it--that way, Porridge lasts longer.
This is my second love...after my boyfriend who hand-picked this for me. Neither one of us had heard of LUSH until he visited his mother in L.A. He chose this one for me because he loves orange juice (which this contains) and for the oats (he knows I'm a lover of all things healthy)...and it's been absolutely perfect for me ever since.
Thanks LUSH...I've been a committed customer the day I got hooked.

After quite a few visits to this online catalogue and dreaming about all the wonderful products that I would love to try, I finally made a pilgrimage to a LUSH counter with a dear friend of mine to scoop up some goodies. (While I do shop online for quite a lot of different things, when it comes to beauty products I like to see them in person before I buy...so visiting the shop itself was the best option for me).
Among some of the brighter, flashier, and often more pungent soaps that this Lush location had to offer, poor Porridge might easily be missed. Thankfully, my companion (a happy Lush veteran) plucked a bar out of the gigantic soap quarry along the wall and brought it to my attention. I was glad that she did--Porridge is really quite lovely if you give it a chance. True to its name, it does have a soft oatmeal smell with a hint of clay when dry. I found this particularly nice because I'm rather sensitive to most smells and don't like anything that's overly floral or ridiculously strong. (I'm not the biggest fan of patchouli, for instance.)
Along with a few other products, I brought home a large brick of Porridge to enjoy. From past experience with handmade soaps, I know that they tend to run out quickly, so I decided to cut off a small chunk (about the size of my thumb) to use at first. This lasted three showers.
When wet, the oatmeal smell is a bit more intense, but it's by no means overwhelming. I was also a bit amused to find that the lather was almond-colored (instead of the usual white).
Under ordinary circumstances, I shower with a pouf (which I think is the best tool to get lots of lather). With Porridge, I scrubbed up with my hands because I was concerned that the little grits in the soap would tangle in the mesh of my pouf and be nearly impossible to rinse out. The lather in my palms was decent enough, but not the best.
Oh, those grits!!! They were the sole reason that I took off two stars for this product. I found them to be very annoying. There are far more packed in the bar than you'd think. I'm sure it's great for those who like their soap to exfoliate, but for me it was just a big mess all over the floor of my shower. I just flushed them down the drain--but I wonder if I can continue to get away with it over time. Would my entire brick's worth of Porridge clog my pipes?
For my third shower experience with Porridge, I tried tying what was left of my thumb-sized chunk into a wash cloth and securing it with a hair band. It solved the problem of messy grits all over the place, but the washcloth seemed to absorb all the suds and it was a little bit more difficult to get myself clean. I don't really blame the soap--I know you can't get much lather with a washcloth to begin with, but I couldn't figure out another way to solve the grit problem.
I might go back to hand-lathering and invest in a good drain cover to protect my pipes from the grits in the future.
Other than that--Porridge is really something special. It smells good enough to eat, and, more importantly, I felt clean after using it and it didn't dry out my skin at all! (A common problem that I have with handmade soap.) If Lush would make a nice little grit-free version of Porridge that I could use with a shower pouf I would be 100% satisfied. (Maybe it could be called Cream of Porridge?)

I love porridge! My dad got this for me and at first i thought it was weird because of the texture and it was going to make my skin irritated(I have very sensitive skin.)I loved the scent from the start though. I started using it and the scent filled my shower with an amazing smell, like caramel kind of. The only reason I gave it four stars was because the oats fall off as you're using it. They did not clog my drain but they annoyed me a bit. However they were very exfoliating so I did still enjoy them.

The scent of this soap is amazing. It's very comforting and smells great on the skin. I use this soap everyday and it is one of my favorite Lush products. The only downside is the mess. The oats tend to accumulate in the shower. I've started scraping off some of the oats when they get too clumpy so I don't have to deal with the fall out later.

I got this as a free sample when I ordered Honey I Washed the Kids. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. The oats were exfoliating without being to harsh. The smell was very pleasant, and lingered a little after the shower. I think the oats might get a little messy as the soap gets used up, but so far so good.

I use porridge soap on my face every night. The scent is delicious and the lather is wonderfully rich. My skin feels amazingly soft afterwards! One caution: Don't rub the soap directly on your skin -- the oats are too coarse for the face.

I got this soap to wash my Sphynx cat with, she takes a bath ones a week and often other soaps leave a "film" on her but this one cleans "clean" and days after she is smooth and it seems to even controle her "body oil" production. It is her new faviorite!!

Oh, I love this. Smells like vanilla oats to me. Left my skin feeling verrrrry soft both times I tried it. Sure, you'll find lots of oats in your shower, but if you kick them far enough they become attracted to the drain. Unfortunately the only place the scent sticks to is in the palms of my hands. And the entire bathroom. Beautiful soap though. I would get it again!

I ADORE Porridge! I have keratosis pilaris (kp), which is commonly referred to as chicken skin. It's a harmless condition, it's just not pretty (basically, it looks like perpetual reddish goosebumps). To help keep it under wraps, the most important things are to exfoliate and moisturize. This soap does both! I use it in the shower, and it makes my arms fantastically smooth! I'm not saying that it makes it all go away, but my skin has improved greatly since using this product! Also, the redness tones down, so the bumps that ARE left aren't highlighted. DO NOT LEAVE IN SHOWER OR IT WILL MELT. Used in conjunction with Dream Cream, it can't be beat. It smells so great and sweet, too! :)

I LOVE THIS I got a sample the other day and I'm sooo going to order more! I have dry skin and all, but I also care a lot about scents and this soap smells JUST like oatmeal reminds me of the oatfix mask. the smell stays on if you aren't the type to put lotion everywhere after.The only thing some may dislike is how MANY oats are in it because they get all over the bath and ur body but Its what's to be expected in this.

I liked this product the first few times that I used it in the shower, but after a while, it started to not lather very well and it took forever to really wash my body and feel clean. I had to pick out oats so that it would lather properly. It made a huge mess in the shower and I had to clean up every time I used it. Overall not really my favorite product :[

i really like this soap! the smell is intoxicating and sticks around for hours. i used it in the bath and it is SO creamy & gentle. my skin didn't feel dry or tight after using it. the oats were gentle on my skin, but i don't think i'm going to be too keen on when the oats REALLY start to fall out and having to clean it out of the tub. and the soap quickly shrank on one use, so i think i'm going to cut up the rest of it and just use little bits at a time.

I absolutely love the smell of this soap, it's like chocolate oatmeal. The texture is also fantastic, like rubbing a smooth stone on your body. My main problem with it is that it didn't even last me three washings. I didn't even use it to wash my whole body, just parts. It quickly breaks down and the white part that holds the scrubby bits dissolves, breaking apart the whole bar. I couldn't tell if it actually left me feeling clean because it dissolved before I could get an accurate opinion.
Every time I'm at the Lush store now, I pick it up because it smells so, so good - but I put it back because it just seems like a waste of money to be able to use it just once or twice. I might buy it in the future, for a special occasion similar to how I'd buy a bath bomb.

I was very skeptical when I bought this soap. Usually I opt for more fruity and floral scents, and other soaps like Godmother, Sexy Peel, and Honey I Washed The Kids had become staples in my shower. The scent of this soap isn't bad, at all. It smells slightly like molasses, but in no way is it a sickly sweet kind of smell. It's pleasant, and is not overwhelming. I found myself liking it more and more with every use!
This soap is incredible. I expected some type of residue or tightness on my skin, since this was a bar soap after all. I was so surprised when I experienced neither! The bar produces a silky, luxurious and milky lather. Your skin will LOVE this soap. My skin felt nourished, not like I was stripping it of its moisture. I love the oats because they gently exfoliate and they may be a little messy, but it's not a problem. They are tiny enough to go down the drain and they rinse out of the tub easily.
After using it, I used a body scrub I picked up from a department store before I shaved my legs. Sadly, the body scrub left my legs feeling oily and extremely greasy! What a nightmare! It clogged my razor and just felt absolutely gross. No matter how many times I rinsed, the grease would not go away.
So I picked up my Porridge soap and ran it over my legs a few times. And BAM! The grease was absolutely gone! I was so shocked that a soap that didn't produce much suds would have enough power to cleanse like that! I was hooked!
After I toweled off, my skin was so smooth and soft, it was unbelievable. I went to go out that night and put on a dress that was above my knees. I was about to put on lotion on my legs (ash shows up on tan girls) but then noticed that my knees which are ALWAYS ashy after showers, were not ashy in the slightest. No lotion needed here!
I would say to definitely keep this in one of those elevated soap dishes and away from the shower when not in use. You'll definitely get more uses that way! I would and have recommended this to all my friends. I have used drugstore, department store, and other body stores' body washes. This tops them all, and I will be repurchasing for sure. You will not be let down!

I really loved the smell of this soap but I honestly wouldn't buy it again. First off, it doesn't last very long at all. Even kept in a soap dish, I got tops about a month of use in the shower. I found the soap to be rough as well especially as the soap wore down over time. It is extremely messy in the bathtub after a shower too because of the oats. Looking forward to trying another bar with less hassle than this product is.
