Dandruff, dry scalps and sore, irritated heads will soon be a thing of the past. If you’re suffering give your scalp a good run down with Snake Oil. Melt it into your fingertips and massage it right into your scalp. Lavender, tea tree and peppermint essential oils kill offensive dandruff-causing microbes and soothe burning and redness. The cocoa butter base softens and moisturizes the scalp to reduce that terrible itchy feeling. Leave the powerful essential oils to do their work for twenty minutes or so, and then wash it off with Soak and Float shampoo. Use it regularly until you're fixed.
Features
- Scalp shedding like a snake?: Our blend of softening natural butters banish flaky bits.
- Smells like: Cade oil may smell like a camp fire, but nothing beats the effectiveness of this antimicrobial oil for treating dandruff.
- Loving lavender: Extracted from the flower of the plant the oil is antimicrobial and soothing for a variety of skin and scalp conditions.

"Extremely effective product, leaves scalp soft and dandruff free. The smell is not as bad but it is potent while on your head, think a camp fire. Once you shampoo and rinse, the smell will be gone. I use it once a week by rubbing the product and applying at the roots. I am not using a lot of product each time so the bar will last me a while. It also does not leave the hair dry and tangled which is what I disliked about dandruff shampoos. I typically follow the treatment with Lush Trichomania shampoo or the Hybrid solid shampoo bar.
Also by reading other reviews I find out it works great to repell lice (good for kids). I will keep buying it, it works great for me.

My partner has eczema and had a really bad flare up about 2 months ago. Since then we have tried everything and spent a lot of cash trying to calm his skin down. Eventually, we thought of Lush and tried the Dream Wash and Dream Cream. They're ok BUT the snake oil bar worked miracles. He rubs it into the affected patches 20 mins or so before a shower (using dream wash or sensitive skin formula wash). Just 2 days of using the snakeoil made a huge difference. It's still going down and he no longer looks as though he's been sprayed with acid (he had it round his eyes as well - looked like his eyes had been stitched together at one point). A couple of very raw weepy patches on his arms have 'healed' over and no longer crack open. He now applies good quality body butters morning and night to keep his skin hydrated and moisturised as well as the snake oil before his shower and he's finally starting to get comfortable in his own skin again. It smells bad but by holy cow it works.

I have been dealing with nasty flakes my whole life. I had never used Lush haircare before, but since I knew all the other products I liked never failed, that I should try their hair treatments! This is the first hair product I tried, I was excited to try this because of all the reviews. However after a few weeks of using the product, I was disappointed. It took me a few tries to get this product right. I would put either too little or too much (i recommend starting with too little). Leaving my hair still flaky and itchy or completely saturated in oil. Once I found the right amount for my scalp it started effectively working, but if I didn't wash my hair for a day or two the flakes would come back, sometimes double the amount. If you only have a few patches of flakes, I would strongly recommend this, but if you unfortunately have more than it might have to be a daily routine or what I did is leave it in over night and wash out when you wake up.
Also, I haven't been able to use this product as much, because of how strong the smell is. Even though the product is vegan, my vegan boyfriend wont even go near me. He runs away saying it reaks of pork. It really doesn't, but if you have a sweet scented nose like I do, you might have to put a clothes pin on.

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
I have bad dandruff and have tried a number of different treatments. I also use the soak & float shampoo bar which is quite effective but also quite drying to my normally oily/combination scalp, and I think the snake oil bar compliments the drying effect of the soak & float. The snake oil bar might not be suitable if you have a particularly oily scalp though.
I purchased this product after a particularly bad week of dandruff, in an effort to soothe and relieve the itching and flaking. I think snake oil definitely relieves a dry flaking scalp, however it is difficult to melt and apply (especially if you live in a cooler climate). If it came as balm or an serum it would be easier to use compared with a solid bar, and I'd give it a higher score and maybe even recommend it.
I usually shave some off with my nail, then melt in my palms before massaging into my scalp. I also tend to leave overnight and wash out in the morning. I recommend using a vinegar rinse once a week (1/4 cup brown vinegar + 3/4 cup warm water) to remove any build up.
I know many have commented on the smell; I have to say it doesn't bother me at all and is nothing compared to the intensity of the soak & float solid shampoo!
I use this product sparingly so think it's good value as a little goes a long way. you're more likely to get build up if you use too much of it.

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
Several folks I've talked to about this product complain about how awkward it is to apply in its bar form. I agree -- so what i did was get a plastic squeezy condiment bottle (you know, like you put ketchup on your hot dog with at the deli counter) and chunk the bar up and put it in that. then i put the bottle in a mug and run boiling water around it. leave it for five or ten minutes and shake it around inside the bottom of the bottle. Test the oil for heat before you put it on your head, and then go to town on it. The pointy tip on the bottle gets down to the scalp so you get more of the product where you need it and less on the hair. Regarding the product itself, yeah, it smells. But it smells better than skin problems look!

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
My scalp has been mad at me lately - once winter hits, I get itchy (to the point of scratching sores on my head) and flakier than a snowstorm. I read the reviews and figured, okay, why not, I'll try this bar. It smells like a bacon truck on fire (and not in a good way) but wow! It is extremely effective. Minutes after putting it on I felt relief from the itch, and after washing it off I noticed a substantial decrease in scalp flaking! I wore it overnight with a cap covering my head, and definitely needed two shampoos to get it all out. I recommend pinning up long hair in a ponytail to get it out of the way before applying this; otherwise your hair gets most of the oils.

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
I love the snake oil bar, it's very effective for my red, flaky, angry, scalp. My only issue is that I can't melt it in my hands enough to get down to my scalp through my thick hair. What works for me is chopping little chunks off the bar and placing the hunks where I need them, then I melt it with a hairdryer. Perfect every time!

Works on dandruff!
Pros
- Clears Up Dandruff
- Easy to Apply
- Gentle
- Improves Hair Health
Cons
- Smells Bad
Best Uses
- Dandruff
Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
I use this product 2x a week and leave it on all night. It washes out fairly easy, I shampoo twice with a anti dandruff just to make sure there is no residue left from the snake oil.
It doesn't hurt or burn like some dandruff treatments. Give it a try, yes it smells kinda bad but you get used to it. It helps with fungal dandruff because of the anti bacterial oils.
Great product, will keep buying. One bar lasts a long time.

Melt some in the microwave!
Pros
- Improves Hair Health
- Nice Tingle
- Takes Away The Itch
Cons
- Greasy
Best Uses
- Itchy Dry Scalpdandruff
Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
I always use a paring knife to shave a few bits off the bar, then melt them in a little dish in the microwave. Then, I apply the melted oils with my fingertips directly to my scalp. I often leave the treatment on for longer than 20 minutes, but even 10 minutes helps in a pinch.
A double-shampoo is usually required (Soak & Float bar); my hair is left bouncy and clean and my scalp won't itch or flake for at least a week.

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
If you have scalp Psoriasis this product is meant for you.
First I want to say DO NOT let the smell of this bar cause you to not purchase! I was extremely turned off by the smell to the point where I actually didn't buy the bar at first and then decided to give it a try when I realized I had nothing to lose. So I went back to the store and bought it. I cannot even explain how grateful I am that this product is in my life!
A lot of people complain that this is hard to use on the scalp because the bar doesn't melt easily in your hands, so I melted it in the micowave and it worked great when applying! All I did after melting was simply poor the hot oil on to my scalp. I massaged my scalp then let the treatment sit for an hour. Once finished I washed my hair with the Soak & Float bar....you guys, after 11 years of having severe Psoriasis of the scalp I finally found a treatment that actually works. This will leave your scalp build up/scale FREE! I still have minor dandruff but I will take ANYTHING over my Psoriasis.
THANK YOU LUSH!!!

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
I got this bar because I have a small amount of dandruff, not a whole lot but my scalp is dry. I also liked all the antimicrobials and the cocoa butter and shea it had in it for moisturizing. I had a tough time at first because I have really long hair but I didn't really know how to use it either, so I went on the lush site and learned (great instructions by the way), It reminds me of a hot oil treatment your rubbing in your scalp and of course its going to be oily. I think thats something people are going to have to understand when buying this bar,Its an oil treatment. I found it to be very effective and I didnt mind the smell at all. The smell did wash out with shampoo though. The biggest plus is the antimicrobials though! I will continue to buy!

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
Periodically my scalp gets itchy and pieces start coming off in big flakes, leaving red patches. Whenever I start to feel that itch, I rub Snake Oil into my scalp. Within minutes, the itchiness starts to subside. With regular use, the flakiness goes away all together. I have found that for me, there is no need to wash it out, which gives me the flexibility of using it right before I run out the door in the morning. I naturally have a very dry scalp and dry, curly hair, so I imagine that for others washing it out would be necessary to prevent hair from getting greasy. For me, a little extra grease isn't a problem.
The only downside of this product is that it can take a while to melt it into your fingertips, especially in colder weather. However, if you keep rubbing it long enough, you will be able to melt it. Also a lot of people don't like the smell, but I actually don't mind it. It's strong in a way similar to Soak & Float shampoo, but it isn't chemically.
Overall, Snake Oil does a great job on my flaky scalp, and the bar lasts a really long time too. Great value!

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
While I hate to have to say anything bad about anything that Lush makes, I have to confess that this wasn't for me. I have extremely bad dandruff and irritation due to eczema. Unfortunately this stuff wasn't strong enough for me, and since I have such thick curly hair, it was difficult for me to use as well. The smell is not great. In fact, it smelled like uncooked bacon and it lingered in my hair for a long time. My dog, however, loved it and tried to eat it.

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
I went into using this product knowing that it had a bad smell. However, LUSH does a very good job of warning the buyer about this. The smell is unpleasant but EASILY WASHES OUT! The results are completely worth the smell... I used it for "smelly scalp". My scalp had been smelling musty lately (I slept with my hair wet one too many times) and I had tried everything with little to no success. This product worked with one use! I used Trichomania solid shampoo to wash it out. I only had to wash once to get rid of the product smell. When I blow-dried my hair afterwards, I had no smell of either product or mustiness!! Fabulous product!

Cons

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
While being on Accutane/isotretinoin, my normally Asian oily scalp/hair has now dried to a pulp to the point of raining flakes/dandruff and entire scalp itchiness. I've tried other "moisturizing" treatments, such as Japanese camellia (tsubaki) oil, but none are as effective as the Snake Oil. After just 1 application, the itchiness has improved 98%, and the flaking improved 95%. After just 2 applications, everything is completely improved. Although the scent is not the greatest, the benefit far outweighs it.

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
Recently I've been suffering from a really dry, irritated scalp due to the recent cold weather. So of course I went to lush looking for a cure and even though I do not have any dandruff I bought snake oil even though I was really skeptical about buying it after reading hundreds of reviews about the horrible smell. It really does smell like minty-campfire- bacon, but I found that I really didn't mind it at all. It did take me a little while to figure out the best way to apply it.Its best to just melt it in your hands like you would with the full of grace serum bar. It takes awhile but eventually it works. I could not stand the smell of the shampoo bar that's recommended to go with it so I decided to just use my Seanik sold shampoo bar and it works amazingly at removing all of the snake oil. It worked so well that I didn't even have to shampoo twice. When I first used it, my scalp was instantly soothed and a lot of the redness I had decreased. I'm really really happy with it and I recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind the strange smell :)

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
I have had a horrible, itchy/dry scalp for as long as I can remember, and since I have my hair colored every 10 weeks it has gotten even worse. It wasnt't just "snowing", large, unsightly flakes became an issue. I have tried all sorts of OTC shampoos and "natural" home remedies, all to no avail. (I was very reluctant to go to a doctor because I was embarrassed by how bad it had gotten) I was researching online some different remedies and came across a forum with a specific comment from a woman saying that she had used Lush products and they had worked well for her. I looked at their products online, found the nearest store, and headed over. I purchased the "snake oil", "soap & float", "hair doctor" and "jungle". The first day my scalp was itching horribly, and I was afraid I had made a huge mistake, but I didn't give up. Today is day #3 and the flakes have reduced by 85%. I am amazed. Yes the smell is very strong, but jungle takes care of that, and the smell is a very small price to pay for the successful results.

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
Yeah, I wanted this to work, as my scalp has become sooo flaky, but when I tried to rub this bar into my hair, it made my hair heavy. I spent about 30 minutes trying to wash it out, but I still felt residue, so I just kept applying other shampoos, but still felt the initial residue of the bar. I tried it twice and the same effect. If you have black hair ( black people's hair) I wouldn't recommend this at all. My scalp was super flaky afterwards ( probably because I still had shampoo in it) and a weird texture.

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
I have scalp issues when the weather changes. I get really dry scalp and its embarassing. I've tried different shampoos for "dry scalp" as they claim and nothing really helped. I used this snake oil scalp treamtment with tresemme moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and My scalp and hair is amazing! I straighten my hair and always get fly aways, using the snake bar tamed those bad boys!!
Reviews mentioned that it smelled really bad, and ok it has a very light smell of plastic, but honestly for the results it can smell like swamp and I would still use it. It works wonders and I love it! Theres no tingle or burning which is awesome. The only issue i had with it was cutting a piece and rubbing it in my hands then applying it to my hair. I wish i could just take the entire bar and rub it in my hair. (I attempted this but the bar just started to slip and slide out of my hand). So I had to use a little at a time but regardless I'm using it.

Comments about Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:
This has been the only thing I have found that helps with my dry scalp. Dandruff shampoos didn't help. A few minutes after rubbing Snake Oil in, the itching is reduced to almost none. If I am good and use it regularly, I have no itching or flaking at all, and no red irritated spots. I tend to put it on in the evening and wash it out the next morning to give it time to really soak in. LOVE this stuff.

Hair growth or loss usually occurs for genetic reasons, however if you're experiencing hair loss due to stress, using a stimulating hair care product with ingredients like peppermint, clove bud, or cinnamon leaf, may help increase blood circulation to the scalp which is necessary for healthy hair growth. This bar is great for helping to stimulation and condition the scalp, so you may find it will help out your hair as well, but it's not a quick fix for hair loss. When it comes to more significant hair loss, it's best to consult your physician.Answered on 11/2/2012 by Megan from LUSH
Q:
Can you leave the product on overnight for extra treatment? :)Asked on 8/30/2012 by Registered Nurse Rischelle from Chandler, AZKnow the answer? Answer this question

A:
You could certainly leave Snake Oil on for longer than the suggested 20 minutes if you'd like! It should be noted, though, that actively massaging the scalp really helps this one to do its job, and leaving it on might not lead to a more dramatic effect. That said, if it does work well for you, please feel free to continue!Answered on 11/2/2012 by Brandy from LUSHA:
I leave it on overnight pretty much every time I use it and have no problems with my hair or scalp. It does sometimes rub off a little on the pillow, but that comes out in the wash.Answered on 10/26/2012 by Mir from Huntsville, AL

A:
No, you can use the bar many times. It's a lot like their massage bars... You use as much as you need/prefer for your scalp and save the rest for next time. Based on how much I use, I estimate mine will last for at least a dozen treatments.Answered on 6/16/2012 by Sarah Hope from San Diego, CAA:
I cut off a small piece and melted in the microwave. Then I applied the oil to my scalp. One bar will last you a very long time and it is definitely worth getting this product if your scalp is super dry like mine!Answered on 6/7/2012 by Carie from Dallas,TXA:
Oh no! One bar lasts for many uses depending on how much you need each time. I use this once a week and the bar is about half gone after a few months for me.Answered on 6/6/2012 by Bridget from Chicago, ILA:
No, you use it whenever you feel your scalp needs some relief. So you can use it for more than one use.Answered on 6/20/2012 by P.Y.Tatum from Glendale, CA
