Sodium Bicarbonate and Citric Acid
When LUSH co-founder Mo Constantine invented the Bath Bomb over 25 years ago, she based it on the bath cube, but packed it with a much more exciting fizzy compound.
The simple combination of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and citric acid (basically lemon sherbet) makes our Bath Bombs burst in a mass of fragrant fizz as soon as they hit the water. Both ingredients are gentle on the skin too, which suited Mo as she was looking for a way to help people, including kids, have a really amazing bathing experience, even if they are sensitive to bubble mixture. We add different colors and essential oils to the basic blend, as well as soya milk, glitter, paper confetti, natural butters, fruit, rose petals, sea salt and seaweed to name a few. Result: soft water, scented skin, happy bather.
