Superbalm
How to use
Take a small amount on your fingertip then massage gently into the scalp – it’s not really for the hair so try and be careful to apply it directly to your scalp. Leave it for about 20 mins then rinse out carefully, before shampooing and conditioning.

Super Scalp Treatment

Itchy, dandruff-ridden scalps are a literal pain. When the scale builds up on the scalp and can't be removed by shampoo, this is the scalp treatment you need. LUSH co-founder Mark Constantine is a trained trichologist (student of all things hair) and has come up with this supremely soothing ointment of coconut oil, candelilla wax and salicylic acid (formed naturally from meadowsweet) to soothe and moisturize scalp while softening and ridding hair of loose flakes. For anyone with a dry, troubled scalp. You won't want to use anything else.

Features

  • Feeling blue? Chamomile blue oil soothes irritated scalps. The balm is actually a dull blue from the chamomile blue content!
  • Suitable for vegans: With no animal by-products, this scalp treatment is suitable for vegans.
  • Lovely lavender: We use lavender extensively throughout our hair and skin products for its relaxing, cleansing and soothing qualities

I have very fine hair that needs to be washed practically every day, and as a result, sometimes my scalp gets insanely dry. This results in an itchy, flaky scalp that bleeds and scabs whenever I scratch it. Not cute. Shampoos didn't help, and Superbalm seemed to be just the thing for my extremely uncomfortable head. It was very, very difficult to apply because I have pretty long hair, and applying it directly to the scalp was a challenge. Because of that, it felt like it was knotting my hair as I was trying to apply it. If it was a thinner consistency it would be easier to seep down to the roots. At least the smell didn't bother me, unlike a lot of other reviewers. My main issue was that I had to shampoo my hair 5 times for it to even START to rinse clean. That being said, my problem scalp is not remotely itchy! My hair is also a little shinier, but it has a slightly waxy quality that still hasn't washed out. I would only recommend this to men or women with very short hair, or those who have smaller problem areas (not their entire head).

      Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

This is by far the worst product I've ever had the misfortune of using in the history of Lush. With a scent reminiscent of Icy Hot, this incredibly waxy, greasy paste appears to do nothing to improve scalp dryness and instead appears to leave a thick film over hair that cannot be removed entirely even after FOUR WASHES. While struggling to scrape this filmy product from hair during rinses, it also has an unfortunate tendency of burning your eyes terribly should you not multitask and cover your eyes while furiously scrubbing your hair to remove it. Love Lush, but this is not even remotely up to the usual standard.

        Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

I'm not too thrilled with this product. I have a very dry, flaky, itchy, and sometimes oozy scalp. Yikes! I have tried plenty of different methods to heal my sorry scalp, and I thought this product would be the perfect solution. I've used it, as directed, parting my hair and applying directly to the scalp, leaving in for 20 or so minutes, dry shampooing, and then shampooing in the shower. I've done this about 5 times. When the product is present on my scalp, it helps the itching tremendously, but I haven't seen much result for long-term solution thus far. I love lush, I love their products and what they stand for, but for what I paid for this product, I'm rather disappointed. I hope it works for you!

          Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

I was at first unwilling to use this product. I went to my local Lush to purchase the Snake Oil. I mostly liked the Snake oil because of the smell and how felt afterwards. It didn't really solve my dandruff problem, but I liked to use it none the less. When I was presented with the Superbalm, I walked out of the store. It smelled weird, it was smaller, it was out of my price range. But as my dandruff and itchy scalp worsened I returned, bite the bullet, and bought it. After using it the first time, the entire health of my hair and scalp improved instantly. LITERALLY! The flakes were gone, my hair was soft and shinny, and I again felt great after using it. Im typically pretty skeptical about using Lush products for their purpose (I love the smells so much I could care less if it worked) and I have never written a review before. But the Superbalm really, really helped my itchy head and its been 4 days and no flakes, itchiness, not even oily yet. I couldn't be more pleased.
I have: Thick, Curly, Medium length hair. I only had to use about centimeter off the top of the tin. Still plenty more if i need to use it again

                Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

I read throughout ALL the reviews, and was downright giddy when this came in the mail. I had already washed my hair the day before, but washed it again just for kicks. It was in oil form when it came but within hours of being in our fridgidare of a house is solidified. I applied by rubbing a finger into the product and applying to my roots about a inch at a time. Being a dandruff sufferer and in line to inherit our family line of psoraisis, the application itself was soothing. It felt so good not to be itchy I left it on for nearly and hour. After applying my shampoo to DRY hair and then rinsing and repeating not only did my itchiness feel soothed but my whole head felt rejuvenated. After my routine blow dry and flat iron, my hair had RIDICULOUS body to it. I got so many compliments that day!! It is two days prior and my hair has flatened a bit (due to wrapping my hair - black girl term) the body is still there. This stuff is crack for your scalp!

                  Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

I walked into my local store to get some help regarding my problematic scalp. I have seborrheic dermatitis and have never found something that really calmed everything down without over-drying. The lovely lady at the store gave me a sample to try before committing to the entire tin due to how sensitive my scalp can be. I tried it later that evening with fingers crossed. I was careful to use a little (about the size of a small grape) to start with and rubbed the balm into my hands that quickly turned into a warm oil. I have very long, thick hair so I tried my best to keep it on my scalp instead of all over my hair when applying but found I did have to go back to my sampler to get a couple more dabs to finish rubbing completely into my scalp. The scent is very pleasant and fresh and I enjoyed the tingling sensation. I left it on for about 10 minutes (as suggested by the saleswoman) and went to shower as normal. I found that there was no need to scrub "extra" to get this stuff out. When I dried my hair about 20 minutes after the shower my hair was amazing! The oils clearly were what my scalp (and hair) needed! There was SO much shine and not oily or greasy looking! The biggest test to me was whether or not my scalp would itch the next day. This is usual with my current (well, now maybe ex) scalp shampoo. I was SO happy to find that my scalp was just as pleased as I was. I definitely think I am making the switch!
My only concern is how often I should use it. I will begin to experiment with maybe twice a week and work up from there due to the oils (don't want to overdo it!).
Overall, I am very pleased to have found and used this product!!

I love almost everything I've purchased from LUSH. My shower and medicine cabinet are full of their products. That being said, this product does not do what it is purported to do. I get really bad winter dry skin. This results in my scalp getting very itchy and flaky during the dry winter months. I used this product several times and was back to scratching my head about a half hour after I rinsed it off. As expensive as these products are, I really expect them to do what they are supposed to, and this one just didn't. At all.

                        Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

Got this at my local Lush yesterday. I planned on getting Hair Doctor but thankfully, they were out. When the clerk suggested it she said it was like Snake Oil but turned up a few notches. I was skeptical because I tried Snake Oil and hated it. But I'm glad I tried it!

I have a very itchy scalp that has a tendency to break out so I needed something to calm it down and help with the breakouts.

The process I used was to apply directly to my scalp (trying to keep it out of my hair as much as possible...but let's face it...some of it did get into my hair) and leave it in for 20 minutes. I did follow the tip suggested in video by using I Love Juicy (just happened to be the shampoo I use regularly)on dry hair, hopping in the shower and rinsing it out. Commenced with my shower, shampooed a second time and conditioned. It all washed out with no residue.

So far today my scalp is much less angry and I think some of the acne spots are drying up. I will definitely continue to use this a couple of times a week or whenever I have a flare up.

                            Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

Every winter, my scalp is terribly itchy and gets really flakey. When I heard about this product, I was super excited. People are complaining how it is hard to get it off but are watching the video on this website and getting clearer instructions on how to wash it off, it really wasn't so hard to.

Usually, on the day of after I wash my hair, my scalp is normal. I don't wash my hair everyday because it dries out my hair, so when going onto the second day, my head just gets so itchy and there will be tiny flakes. In the middle of the day, I would have to go to the bathroom, hide in a stall, hold my hair up with hand, point my head towards to floor standing up, and ruffle through my hair to get the flakes out. That's how bad it was.

Normally, I would put this stuff on my roots and go about my evening for about half an hour to an hour. I know it's longer than the instructions but I always get carried away with what I'm doing. When I enter the showers, I quickly put shampoo on the top if my head DRY, rinse, then shampoo and condition. My hair comes out perfectly fine.

                            Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

I've been using this once a week and it has made a HUGE difference for my dry, flaky, irritated scalp, which I know bleaching doesn't help with. I only wash my hair every three days, so the rest of the time, except when I am using the Superbalm, I use Soak and Float. My only issue with it, is that it is hard to wash out and leaves a residue. I also can't use Soak and Float to wash it out because that seems to really irritate my scalp and has the opposite effect, so I use a baby shampoo (since I have that on hand) instead and have to lather up twice, but it is SO WORTH IT for the results and I'm way more inclined to wear dark clothing.

                              Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

I LOVE this product. For a few months I had really awful dandruff that nothing could get rid of (and I tried everything, believe me). This was the only thing that actually worked. It cleaned it all up with just 1 usage. The first time I used it, it left some residue in my hair and was hard to wash out, but that's because I had yet to watch the video (above) that gives you a little trick so that won't happen (which they could make clearer but oh well). Before you put this on your scalp, you MUST rub this product between your fingers quite a bit before you put it on you head. It will turn it from the waxy texture that it has in the tub to something that looks/feels more like just a clear oil. Only THEN should you put it on your scalp. Since I figured that out, the product is easy to remove and will not leave any residue on my hair/scalp.
I don't apply it regularly, only when I feel like my scalp needs a little cleaning up (not terribly frequently). Also, I think it smells amazing, sort of foresty and minty.

I have had to use it daily to get results with the bad shape my scalp was in. It was covered in scabs and itchy all the time due to what I think was an allergic reaction to commercial hair care products i had used. After a month of nightly use, my scalp is nearly healed and healthy again. It is a bit hard to use and I developed a method of warming up the balm on my finger tips and them massaging all over my scalp. It is a bit hard to wash out but after watching the quick tip video for it a putting a bit of liquid shampoo in before i showered to break it up, it washed out much easier.

My husband used to use snake oil as he is dandruff prone. The snake oil would work miracles but was a bit hard to put on. So, when we heard about superbalm we got excited. However, it is just not as effective at reducing dandruff as snake oil. It does it but the effects do not last long and it leaves the hair pretty greasy. It is easier to put on but...it doesnt really work so why do it. I will say it does smell wonderful.

A fabulous treatment but do be careful not to go crazy and over apply - it will leave behind grease. I recommend shampooing thoroughly afterward because you have no fear that your scalp will remain conditioned.

It is fabulous! I always have a dry area at the front of my scalp where my calec parts and my scalp receives exposure to Florida's unforgiving sun.

I have never purchased a product that worked for my dandruff / dry scalp. I read other reviews about Superbalm and decided to try it out. I am SO GRATEFUL for this product!!! In just ONE USE I don't have any flakes, itchiness or dryness on my scalp... and it's been 3 days since I used it. I purchased the Juicy shampoo to help get out the greasiness of the Superbalm, but it came out with no problems. I am so happy and am recommeding this to everyone I know! I will scream it from the rooftops! Superbalm WORKS!

                                  Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

During the cooler months, I tend to have a dry, itchy and moderately flaky scalp. After reading the product description, I decided to give Superbalm a go. I have used this product once weekly for the past four weeks, and I am very pleased with the results. My scalp is no longer itchy or flaky!

I live in Florida, and unless it is super cold (for us, that's 60 degrees F or below) this product loses its waxy texture and becomes very creamy. I just rub my fingertips onto the balm, and then rub the fingertips of both hands together and apply to my scalp. I repeat this process several times until my scalp is covered. On those rare occasions when it is cool enough here for the balm to have the waxy texture, I'll just rub the balm across my fingertips until it has melted. You really need such a small amount of product. I generally leave this on while I am doing household
chores, or a couple of hours. Following the product tip video, I rub some I Love Juicy shampoo onto my dry scalp and hair and massage it around until my scalp is covered. I let it sit a couple of minutes, and hop into the shower and wet my hair. I'll add a bit more I Love Juicy shampoo once my hair is wet and attempt to lather. Because of the oils in Superbalm, the amount of lather will be slight. I then rinse the shampoo out, and do a second wash, this time with Soak and Float. This always
lathers nicely. After rinsing, I follow it up with either Happy Happy Joy Joy conditioner or Big solid Conditioner, staying away from the roots and concentrating the conditioner from the ear area down.

I am very pleased with this product, and will continue to purchase.

During the summer months, my hair and scalp are happy. However, when winter sets in, my scalp gets itchy and starts flaking. (It's not a fan of no humidity.) I had been using Snake Oil and Hair Doctor. Then Snake Oil was taken out of stores, and my store was out of Hair Doctor, so I thought I would give Superbalm a try. I was seriously disappointed. It was really hard to apply to my scalp because of its waxy consistency. It was also really hard to wash out. My hair did look a little shinier, but I won't be purchasing it again.

                                    Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

So I tried a sample of Superbalm from the good folks at the Garden State Plaza, NJ LUSH and it was amazing. I've had chronic dry scalp since I moved from Chicago to NJ 3 years ago, and one application of this cured my dry, cracked, and flake-laden scalp! I applied this product with a small makeup brush, parting my long hair to get to my scalp. I left the product overnight, sleeping in a shower cap. I woke up looking like a soaked my hair in oil, but I washed with my regular shampoo & conditioner and bam... my scalp feels amazing and 80% of the buildup is gone! About the smell.. it's definitely strong but I liked it. I will be back to buy a tin! Thanks LUSH!

                                    Comments about Superbalm scalp treatment:

I've noticed that my scalp gets especially dry every winter because of the cold. It gets dry other times, but is especially bad this time of year. It is embarrassing and I'm sure others notice! I tried out this product after consideration (I've heard Hair Doctor can strip hair color) and I'm glad I did! After one use, I'd say my scalp is about 50% better and I will use it again tomorrow. The only thing I don't like is that when you use it, your hair will look very greasy until you wash it out but after shampooing, this seemed to totally disappear. It does have a slight smell but I didn't find that it was horrible or overpowering. It didn't really bother me. Also, it takes a very small amount of this product to work in comparison to a lot of the other treatments so each use doesn't cost as much!

Superbalm should be applied to scalp when the hair is dry because it is meant to be rinsed out afterwards before you shampoo and condition. Take a small amount on your fingertip then massage gently into the scalp. Try to avoid getting it on your hair, as its benefits are for the scalp. Leave it for about 20 minutes then rinse it out before you shampoo and condition.

I suggest using it on dry hair due to the oily nature of Superbalm. That way it has a chance to get soaked up and into the dry scalp. If your hair and scalp are wet, I don't see this product being able to work its magic as intended. I use it about 10-15 minutes before I know I will be jumping into the shower and wash it out with my normal shampoo (and conditioner later).

Superbalm does not contain any ingredients that will compromise color treated hair so if it does come in contact with the hair, not to worry! We recommend trying to focus on the scalp rather than the hair simply because it is formulated to treat issues at a scalp level.

With Superbalm, we suggest leaving it on for about 20 minutes then rinsing it out before shampooing and conditioning. We recommend shampooing and conditioning after use to ensure that there is no residue left in the hair.

Frequency of use differs from person to person, but we would suggest starting with once per week, and increasing use if need be.
