The Smell of Freedom is a blend of three distinct fragrances that are gorgeous all on their own, and combine to become a mesmerizing, powerful perfume. LUSH perfumer Simon was inspired by his experiences meeting three survivors of hardship to make the perfumes. He used materials local from each country to create brand new fragrances. Fire Tree, the first scent, is a citrus, herbal and woody fragrance inspired by an Australian aboriginal artist. Old Delhi Station blends ginger, clove and black pepper and Oudh Heart, with its powdery and woody scent uses materials familiar to Arab perfumery.

I picked this up the last time I was at Lush. The name drew me to it but I liked the smell too. Since taking it home and wearing it I've kind of fallen in love with it and wear it everyday. It last for a long time and I always receive compliments on it. The little tube is easy to carry and is just a little bigger than most lipstick tubes.

I took a risk and bought a few perfumes online; this was the only one I didn't like. The description says the scent was inspired by people who have endured hardships, which I hopefully interpreted as the scent of spices, nag champa, or musk. But after actually trying it I'm convinced the people who inspired the scent cleaned toilets all day, because it smells like cheap air freshener in a public bathroom. In fact, someone came up to me after I'd put it on my arms and made a similar comment. However, the fragrance does evolve. The initial scent is strong and lemony, then after it sits on the skin a few minutes the warm jasmine notes come up, which is better. I layered it under my jasmine lustre powder and it works well. Since returning it would be too much of a hassle, I'll keep this one for layering.

My favorite perfume. I love how natural this scent is, but it is also very distinctive. It calms me down, makes me happy, and it has a definite sexy factor. I get heaps of compliments when I wear it and who doesn't like that? Basically, it is just awesome.

I really enjoy the scent of this solid perfume. Buying perfume online was a bit of an uncertainty, but this scent is really pleasant. It reminds me of the Godiva solid shampoo, if that helps anybody out. I think it is because of the jasmine. The tint is strange though. I can only imagine that one of the darker solid perfumes would require you to be careful not to get a streak of tint on your neck or something.
I love that you can drop it in your purse and not worry about perfume spilling everywhere!

This fragrance opens with an overwhelming odor of lemongrass, which if that were my favorite, would be great. I found it less than complex and it actually reminded me of air freshener which is not what I want my perfume to smell like. That plus the sickly yellow color it leaves on your skin means I will be returning this one. I really hoped to fall in love with the new perfumes, but this one is not it!

I had a great experience in the Lush store (NYC, UWS). I was curious about the new scents and the girl asked me to close my eyes and name my favorite scent. Being difficult and odd, I said "Hardware store"... a moment later she held out smell of freedom. The canister smelled odd to me, but when she tested it on my wrist... it was right (of course I tried some others), but Smell of freedom is warm, subtle and a just a little bit rustic.
