fresh and warming scent

What a clever, clever (and rare) perfume. It genuinely 'turns' on your skin. Starting off with a minty few moments, it gradually settles into a gorgeous oakwood base with hints of a faraway sweetness. Made with ingredients that have been around for centuries, like oak and hay absolutes, which warm the scent up, and mint on top to keep it fresh. Masterpiece.

Features

  • Calm before the storm: Combines the fresh feeling of rain with a darker, smokier character as it warms on the skin.
  • Peppermint oil: Strong, fresh fragrance and gives a cooling effect to the skin.
  • Main notes: Oakwood, hay, beeswax, nettle, English peppermint, mint and Roman chamomile.

I was reading the reviews for this perfume and I was so intriqued I had to buy it. I was definitely not disappointed. It's completely different from any other perfume I have. It's spicy and earthy and it changes hours after I've applied while not losing its potency. It may be different for other people, but on me it loses some of its spice and smokiness and gets a little sweeter as the day goes on, definitely reminiscent of hay.
The one negative thing I would have to say is that it smells a little soapy when I first apply it, even in the tiniest amounts. It's not a terrible smell though and it fades after a while.
I like dabbing a little bit on my fingertips and running them through my hair. I did that this morning at 7am and now at 2pm I still can smell it!

        Best perfume I've ever worn

When I first smelled this in the tube it smelled very masculine and spicy. The first time I wore it I was truly impressed with how much the scent alters over time. It started out like peppermint and smoke, faded into something reminiscent of a hay loft in a barn, and ended with the mildly sweet and dusty smell of wooden bookcases and old paper. I spent most of the day smelling my wrist to see how the scent changed. It makes me think of the French Quarter, really.

I do think body chemistry has a lot to do with how this particular fragrance smells on a person. Lots of reviews said it smelled masculine but to me it smells like a more mature woman's cologne instead of a sweet or flowery smelling, obviously feminine scent.

Also, I have sensitive skin and am especially allergic to roses. Most perfumes seem to have some sort of rose oil in them, which will make me sneeze at best and break out in a rash at worst. The Smell of Weather Turning is the first perfume I've been able to wear at length without issue.

I received this as a gift and the smell is wonderful! I put it on my wrists and neck. I originally commented that I liked a friend's solid perfume (she has Dirty), but was a bit too intense for me. Weather Turning is much more unassuming and mild.

Whether or not you like this scent is definitely on a person by person basis (as all perfumes are, really). It starts very woody/campfirey and then changes several times throughout all day to end on a more sweet note with hints of amber and musk in between. Again, it probably depends on the person wearing it how much of those changes you perceive, but it does seem to be a totally different scent at the end of the day. Very cool!

I also could see why some would say this is more of a masculine scent, although I tend to prefer that over flowery "feminine" fragrances anyway so it's right up my alley. I does seem to be more of an autumn-time fragrance to me (evokes memories of school and leaves and cool weather), but I have been wearing it daily nonetheless.

All in all a great product!!

A friend sent this to me as a bit of a joke, since I live in rainy and windy place and revel in both. I was saddened, at first, that it doesn't smell at all like petrichor, or changing weather, or weather of any kind. It smells like candlelight and wooden furniture and warmth. Gorgeous, complex, and sexy. I love it.

Once it gets on your skin for about 10 min this smells like the inside of a cedar sauna, maybe with a campfire going outside. Straight out of the tube it smells like freshly cut greens, or a christmas tree, sorta...
it mellows out to a smoky men's cologne type of scent, so I'm not sure I'm going to wear it (I'm a lady...) at least not on its own. I love karma and vanillary, so maybe it will mix with those. If you like a non-feminine scent and/or are a dude, this may be for you. It's definitely interesting! I guess I took a risk ordering this without smelling it, but the discriptions were so intriguing! I dunno, I can't really even tell if I like it yet! So many interesting scents from you guys, keep it up LUSH!

I admit I was initially attracted to this product by the name. It just sounded intriguing. I rarely use perfumes as I have asthma and overly strong fragrances can aggrevate that, so I was a little apprehensive about trying it.

I use this on my stomach (not a usual area, I realize, but it keeps it a little further away from my nose) and find that I can get the occasional whiff of it during the day without being overwhelmed. It lasts all day on me - I was surprised to still be able to smell it when I went to bed.

Definitely not your usual flowery perfume and I'm thinking of trying something a bit sweeter, but it is very nice. I'm also thinking of getting my husband to try it, as I think it would be even nicer on him!

I bought this on a total whim because spicy scents aren't really my bag for daily perfumes but I was intrigued enough to go for it and I'm so glad I did. It starts out grassy and minty, somehow managing to be warm and fresh at the same time. When it settles it's earthy and woody so it pairs with my two current favorites, dirty soap and tramp. As for the packaging I have no issues; since I am not a heavy perfume user I prefer solids anyway. Well done Lush, this is a beautiful scent.

This was something I bought on a whim; I was hoping it might smell like that sweet, meadowy-hay smell you might catch on a nice spring or summer day, or sweetgrass. It doesn't smell like that on me; if the sweetness was even there, to say it was faraway was an understatement. I DID smell the slight tones of honey warming up the scent; the oak is almost overwhelming, but it overall this smells like rain. Sometimes, it reminds me of the smell of laundry, but that's probably because my family uses all the outdoorsy-scented detergents. I mixed this with a touch of vanilla oil one time and a friend said it smelled like champa incense; I actually blend it with LOTS of Vanillary to sweeten it up. I have a habit of blending scents that smell good to see how they react; the Vanillary/Weather Turning blend on me reminds me a lot of that sweet meadow smell. This is especially amazing when going to sleep, by itself or sweetened.
I say sweetened because this scent actually can smell very masculine, at least on me; the oak, mint and bay notes almost drowned out the honey and chamomile with my chemistry. It smells intoxicating on my boyfriend, though, and the scent lingers for a very long time on my pillow. For a solid-scent, that was surprising and tremendous! This is a perfect scent for when you want to smell like it's summertime; highly recommended for the winter blues. It doesn't overwhelm any scent you might actually smell outside however, which was another bonus.
Downsides? It's easy to over-apply, which is why sometimes it's a bit strong smelling. It's *very* easy to push the solid scent stick almost completely out of the tube. It's much, much easier to break/smash the solid scent stick in half when trying to gently press the stick back INTO the tube. The set-up reminds me of a push-up pop. Other than that, I have no complaints about this product.
I don't wear this product every day, but I think it's perfect for meditating if Breath of God isn't your thing. If you need a moment to relax, or a scent for a male friend, this product is what you're looking for; I would also suggest it for when you're not smelling your....um....freshest, to be polite. Who doesn't want to smell like a lush, rain-drenched field during the summer?

I would recommend this to everyone and their brother. =D

This product is true to the description! The sent really does change on your skin. It starts out as an very herbal mix and turns into a warm, smoky sent slightly reminiscent of a campfire. Although the top notes don't last very long, the good news is that both scents are subtle yet distinctive. It'll be a great sent if you want to be reminded of the outdoors or spring showers.

Woah, it really smells like autumn! The Smell of Weather Turning is a perfect, crisp, fall day that you can enjoy anytime. The scent is subtle but very complex, and depending on what you use for lotion or a shower soap, you can bring out some very different traits of TSOWT. On its own, it smells like a rainy fall day...fresh and sweet with a bit of brisk woodsy notes. Lush's ginger lotion brought out the nettle and chamomile while more spicy scents like Chai shower gel emphasized the oakwood base. I love the portability of the Lush perfume solids, too. Give it a try, and wear it along with your favorite Lush products to enhance what you already dig!

When I first read about this product I was intrigued. I had to smell it, and the cheapest way to do so was to purchase the solid version of this scent. When my package came I was so excited that I immediately opened it, even though I was running late for work, in order to take a whiff.
It was.... interesting. I was disappointed. I put the tube down and went to work. Later that night I remembered, duh, that LUSH products usually smell different once you actually use them. I grabbed the tube and applied it to my wrists and neck and laid back in bed. I literally dreamt about laying in the middle of a field during a summer thunder storm and woke up to find my wrist pressed to my nose.
The scent is warm, intense, sweet (but not in a candy or flowery kind of way) and soothing. Many people will probably not like this scent because it doesn't smell like fruit or flowers, but it's for all these reasons that I now love it :)
