The açai palm (Euterpe oleracea) is native to tropical Central and South America and suited to tropical conditions, growing along riverbeds and wetlands.

One tree can produce several fruiting clusters of deep purple berries, which are known as açai or Amazonian palm berries. The inner growing bud of the açai palm contains an exotic delicacy, known as palm hearts.

Packed with antioxidants, nutrients and phytochemicals, the açai berry is now classed as a ‘superfood.’<
