Ban the Fin
In August 2011, we asked our customers to join our campaign partners, Shark Savers, and LUSH by taking the pledge to not eat shark fin soup and to put pressure on local Government to enforce a ban on the shark fin trade. Every year, tens of millions of sharks are captured and killed for their flesh, cartilage, oil and most importantly, their fins. Shark fin soup is commonly served at banquets and weddings in the Asian community, and the increased demand for it has greatly contributed to a cruel and wasteful industry. To raise awareness about the issue, we sold a limited edition Shark Fin soap to raise funds for Shark Savers, and asked our customers to sign a petition in favor of banning the shark fin trade.
Founded in 2007 by six long-time divers, Shark Savers is a leading non-profit organization that is dedicated to the protection of sharks. Shark Savers has over 10,000 members in 99 countries that are working together to educate the public about shark conservation.

Your purchase of Shark Fin soap allowed us to make a $46,400 donation to Shark Savers. Only two weeks later, Shark Savers presented your petition signatures (all 5160 of them in the United States) at a California State hearing and a ban on the shark fin trade was signed into law!
