How to choose your shampoo

Tips and Tricks

Our history is deeply rooted in trichology – the study of the hair and scalp. Mark Constantine, LUSH co-founder and product inventor, is a trained trichologist; his proficiency in crafting fresh hair products for any head is what makes choosing a shampoo at LUSH a special experience indeed!

Hair washing with Curly Wurly LUSH shampoo

We make 17 different shampoos—including a dry shampoo—each with its own beautiful blend of fresh, effective ingredients. “I suppose what we try to do at LUSH is create products to get your hair to do what you want it to do. There are no hard and fast rules,” says Helen Ambrosen, LUSH co-Founder and product inventor. We don’t put hair into ‘dry’ ‘normal’ or ‘oily’ categories; instead we choose to prioritize ingredients and the effect they’ll have on the hair and scalp, resulting in many different shampoos! Read on for a few tips on how to choose the one for you.

LUSH shampoos for strong hair

If your hair needs a strengthening boost, especially if it’s long, breaks easily or is often heat styled, you’ll want to find protein-rich ingredients to nourish the hair. Olive oil helps increase the tensile strength of your hair (to stop snapping and breaking) and can be found in our Rehab shampoo. Curly Wurly, our coconut pudding of a shampoo, is packed with softening butters and oils, as well as protein-packed free-range eggs. Cynthia Sylvia Stout contains organic vegan stout, a medieval remedy to make hair smooth, strong and glossy!

LUSH shampoo for big hair

Does your perfect hair day involve bounce and volume? Then, you need a shampoo made with our favorite volumizer, sea salt! Big shampoo is bursting with sea salt, seaweed, citrus oils and juices for lots of beachy-inspired lift and shine. Banishing residue, dirt and oils from the scalp and strands helps encourage liveliness in hair—the zesty fruit juices in I Love Juicy, for example, are powerful cleansers. Daddy-O shampoo also clarifies using sea salt, lime oil and lemon infusion for a light, carefree feel.

Lush shampoos for dry hair

Searching for something moisturizing? Try Blousey. Its fresh banana and blend of softening butters keep hair hydrated and feeling fab. It’s also gentle enough for color-treated or fragile hair. Godiva, our bestselling solid 2-in-1 shampoo bar, is packed with organic butters and oils and a gorgeous jasmine fragrance for supple hair. If you’d like moisture and a lightweight feel, Fairly Traded Honey is made with 50% quenching honey and 25% linseed mucilage, making this self-preserver a great choice.

Lush solid shampoo bars

Healthy hair starts at the root! If your scalp feels congested or out of balance, reach for Jumping Juniper shampoo bar. Juniperberry, lavender and rosemary oils help balance a temperamental scalp. NEW shampoo bar, with its spicy and stimulating oils of cinnamon, peppermint and clove, is made to encourage new hair growth. If an itchy scalp has you scratching your head, Soak and Float was made for you! Cade oil is a smoky and cleansing essential oil, and is paired with rose and lavender to soothe a troubled scalp.
