Neon Love: The art project that inspired our Valentine’s soap and gifts

You may have noticed a trend in the use of neon visuals with Neon Love soap, Neon Love gift and Lots of Love gift. These products and patterns were inspired by an art project that took place in the UK called 12 Months of Neon Love.

Beginning on Valentine’s Day 2011, two artists who were in a romantic relationship, Victoria Lucas and Richard William Wheater, collaborated on a project that combined their interests of time and neon artwork with their feelings towards one another. They emblazoned lyrics from popular love songs in neon writing on the rooftop of an industrial building that houses Neon Workshops. The writing was only visible to commuters on the train.

Each month the lyrics changed, and at the end of every month the neon artwork was auctioned off on eBay, which allowed the couple to fund their year-long project. As time went on, the love song lyrics began to reflect the stages of the artists’ own relationship and the emotions they went through as it eventually came to an end. Over the course of the year, the project reflected a spectrum of emotions that lovers go through, from “I love you just the way you are” and “...is this love, is this love that I’m feeling?”, to “Love, love will tear us apart, again”.
