Ultimate DIY Summer Picnic

Posted In: DIY

With summertime comes sunshine, and there’s nothing we love more than spending the day outdoors and enjoying a delicious picnic. In honor of the start of picnic season, we’ve decided to share some of our favorite tips and tricks with you!

Stay Local

Why waste gas and energy by driving to a distant picnic spot? Stay local and explore your own community on foot or by bike. You may find a new favorite spot just around the corner!

Go Reusable

You probably have plates, cups and forks at home, so why bother buying plastic utensils? It’s estimated that 40 billion plastic utensils are used every year in the United States alone, most being thrown out after only one use. Go easy on the earth and simply use and wash the ones you already have.

Make Use of Mason Jars

If you have some old mason jars sitting around, put them to use at your next picnic! Your Homebased Mom brightened up her picnic blanket with a beautiful centerpiece and we’ve found some delicious mason jar recipes for individual servings of almost any dessert.

Have a Seat

Picnics don’t need to happen on a traditional blanket. Try switching things up by setting up in the back of a truck, use decorative pillows as seating or find a beach and make yourself comfy on the sand. Find inspiration for gorgeous picnic setups on Hello Society

Put it in Pots

Don’t fret when you run out of Ocean Salt! Your empty LUSH pot makes a great container for transporting your favorite picnic snacks. Whether it’s granola, yogurt, blueberries or dip, these pots were made for holding the freshest ingredients. Muffin tins and egg cartons also make great reusable and recyclable food containers for all your picnic goodies. Check out even more ways to reuse your empty LUSH pots.

Wrap It Up

Some may argue that it’s not a picnic without a basket, but we like to find creative alternatives. Instead of a picnic basket, try using two of our colorful Knot-Wraps to make a backpack that can carry all your picnic supplies. After unloading everything from your bag, untie the wraps and use them as a tablecloth to serve your lunch on.

Make it a Movie Night

What’s more fun than a picnic? A picnic with an outdoor movie! With a projector, a bed sheet and some speakers, you can turn any ordinary picnic into an outdoor movie screening. Check out Momtastic’s DIY ideas for creating the perfect summer theatre…just make sure you don’t forget to bring the popcorn!

Use Fresh, Local Ingredients

With the summer sunshine comes fresh produce from your local farms. Stop by a farmer’s market for all your seasonal ingredients and supplies. Not only will you decrease your carbon footprint, you’ll also help support the farms in your community! Plus, picnics are that much more satisfying when you make your own delicious food. Check out our LUSH-inspired recipes on the blog for everything from BBQ treats to popsicles and cocktails.

We hope some of these tips have given you the inspiration to create the ultimate picnic. Did we miss something? Share your ideas with us in the comments!
