Katy’s LUSH journey began in 2009 at the Robson Street store. Here, she abandoned her ego, donned a Sex Bomb costume and spread LUSH love through the streets of Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics. Since then, Katy’s worked in LUSH manufacturing as a manager-in-training in the Gifts department and has most recently joined the Copy team where she’s excited to share her LUSH passion through the written word (though she’ll miss the Sex Bomb costume). Katy’s a self-proclaimed cheesecake connoisseur and crazy cat lady. When she’s not LUSHin’ it up, you’ll find her hiking the north shore trails or perfecting her sangria recipe.

Valentine's Day Crafternoon

DIY >> LUSH Life >> Handmade

In classic Valentine’s Day fashion, we’ve used heart shapes in loads of our Valentine’s Day inventions: from Neon Love soap, to Love Locket Bath Bomb, love is certainly in the air! To complement these romantic treats, we’ve created these easy-to-make (and adorable) heart-shaped Valentine’s Day bookmarks. Give them to your lovers and friends to celebrate the season.

What you’ll need:

A few sheets of felt

Pen or marker

Scissors

Embroidery thread

A needle

Hot glue gun

Paperclips

1. Start by folding your felt in half, and cutting out a small square. The felt tends to grip onto itself, but to make sure it doesn’t move while you’re cutting, pin the two halves together using a spare pin or needle.

2. Draw your heart shape using a pen or marker on one side of your felt.

3. Cut out the heart, making sure your two pieces of felt stay together.

4. Now that you’ve got two hearts, choose one and start your stitching!

5. Use a simple stitch forward and back, through the edge of your heart, until you’ve gone all the way around.

6. Get your hot glue gun, and glue your two hearts together, with the paperclip in between. Press softly! If you apply too much pressure, the glue might show through your felt.

7. Wait for your glue to dry, then give this adorable bookmark to your valentine!

These cute little hearts could be used to create lots of other heart-shaped gifts: glue one onto a fridge magnet, a hair clip or to a handmade card. Try using recycled paper or fabric to give them a unique touch.

Happy crafting!
