Lush supports the people and animals of Nepal

Posted In: Charity Pot

On April 25th, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. Dozens of aftershocks followed, including a 6.7 magnitude earthquake on April 26th and another 7.3-magnitude earthquake on May 12. Thirty-five of the seventy-five districts of Nepal have been affected in the Western and Central regions, including the Kathmandu Valley.

With thousands dead and many more injured, the negative impact on the area is undeniably tragic. To support recovery from this devastating event, Lush is partnering with two of our Charity Pot partners and others to assist local Nepali organizations in Dhading, Laltipur, Sindhupalchok and other remote communities.

This women’s rights organization will be directing 100% of funds donated to two local Nepali NGOs: WOREC (a women’s human rights defenders group) and HIMAWANTI (an indigenous women’s group). These groups are providing emergency relief to all people in need, focusing on care for pregnant mothers and mothers with newborns.

One Heart World-Wide Nepal

One Heart World-Wide is a maternal health organization that will be setting up and conducting emergency medical aid camps. Donations will cover the costs of local medical personnel, travel, equipment and supplies.

This group is organizing relief efforts for the affected communities surrounding their main site. Donated funds will be used for food, fuel, bedding, extra clothes and pharmaceutical products including sanitary items for women, antibiotics, water purification drops and hand sanitizer.

Animal Nepal

Based in the Lalitpur District of the Kathmandu Valley, Animal Nepal is out rescuing and treating animals in the earthquake zone despite the fact that they have collapsed buildings at both their donkey sanctuary and their dog shelter.

How can you help? There are Nepalese communities living in most major cities across North America. A simple online search can easily connect you with a variety of organizations so you can support their local relief efforts. In Canada, the Nepalese Canadian Community Services (NCCS) offer more information for how you can help.
