LUSH Hall of Fame: Fresh Face Masks

Few LUSH products are more posted, pinned, tweeted or instagrammed (is that a word now?) than our Fresh Face Masks.

Our customers love to smother their faces in our masks of fresh fruits, vegetables, herb infusions and essential oils, make silly faces, and then post it for everyone to see! You really are a weird bunch. But we love you anyway.

Have you ever wondered about the faces and places you might be sharing your shower with? Go behind the bottle and discover the who, what and where of four of our most popular shower products!

Grass shower gel, sourced by: Lee

Lee is a member of our intrepid Buying Team. He purchases wheat grass from Giddy Up and Grow, our supplier in Mission, BC, to make Grass shower gel!

Ro's Argan body conditioner, invented by: Rowena Bird

Confessions of an Undercover Boss

How does one even begin to describe the experience of lifetime?

I suppose by confessing that I was scared to death when asked to go Undercover on behalf of our CEO, Mark Wolverton. As someone who has been speaking about, and on behalf of this company for almost a decade, the idea of getting my hands dirty (and in LUSH fashion, clean again) was exhilarating yet frightening.

LUSH is a part of who I am. What if I discover it isn’t all that I believe it to be? What if the employees that I meet along this journey aren’t as happy as I am? What if I let the company down?

All these thoughts were running through my head and then I slipped on that blonde wig and embarked on a journey that changed lives, including my own. From the moment I went in disguise, I became Katherine. I shut off the outside world, boarded planes, slipped on the steel-toed boots, tied up my apron and quite literally lived the LUSH life for 10 days. Full of highs, lows, long days, sore feet, and whole lot of laughs - I was not disappointed.

What I discovered along the way were shining stars: Sina, Jen, Faeryll, Marjorie and Hoang each instill unique qualities that make LUSH the business that it is today. They all took me in with open arms and smiles despite some of my…um, deficiencies along the way. They exhibited kindness and ha...

Hair Care Myths: Don't Believe the Hype

Urban myths aren’t limited to horror movies; don’t believe everything that you hair… We’re cleaning up some myths about hair care.

More shampoo = cleaner hair

Don’t get yourself into an unnecessary lather and waste shampoo. Just a squirt (about the size of a quarter) is usually enough for long hair. Very long hair may take a little more. Our solid shampoo bars last for 50- 80 washes; evidence that a little does go a long way. The secret to clean, healthy hair is not the amount of lather your shampoo creates; it’s the ingredients in your shampoo. Read the labels, learn about the ingredients and know why they’re there.

You must shampoo every day

We sell shampoo so we could certainly benefit from keeping this one under wraps, but we believe in honesty. Shampooing too frequently can harm hair and lead to excess oil production. If you have extremely oily hair and shampoo twice a day, cut back to once. If you shampoo daily, try every other day instead. It can take two to three weeks for your scalp to adjust, but the benefits will be worth the bother. Wear your hair up or use accessories to keep your hair under control until the awkward phase passes.

You have to change shampoos frequently

While your mane may have its own quirky personality, hair does not get bored and ...

LUSH Careers: Living the LUSH Life

Many of us long-term LUSH employees are asked how we got our dream job at LUSH. Often the answer is that they started their career at the "top" as a part-time employee during our busy holiday season. We call it the top, because these are our customer-facing employees in the retail stores, and our product-making wizards in the kitchen.

No one is more vital to the holiday experience at LUSH, and their experience in this role helps to inform the rest of their career with the company. I know it does mine, and I talked to several fellow LUSHies who felt the same way.

Take Karla and Yuliya from our manufacturing rooms in Vancouver and Toronto. Karla spent her first holiday at LUSH in a local store, selling our products to customers before applying for a position in Manufacturing the following year - that was 6 Christmases ago.

“Something that has followed me through Manufacturing is the question, ‘Would I buy this?’ Being handmade LUSH products maintain an element of uniqueness with every batch, but if I can honestly answer, ‘Yes, I would buy this product,’ then I know it has meet the quality that I was trained to sell to customers. “

Yuliya was hired 7 Christmases ago in the gift wrap room. As a Buyer, she says of her experience in Manufacturing: “Having an understanding of the processes and how our products are made has a huge impact on the decisions I now make related to what product to purchase, in what quantities and how well it will suits our nee...
