New Year, New Beginnings
Happy New Year!
Now that the holidays have almost all passed, (the 12 Days of Christmas end on January 6th), the hangovers are slowly subsiding, and the pants that fit last week are now cutting off circulation; it's time to celebrate a new year. There are so many ways to ring in the New Year - polar bear swims, shiny new calendars, and maybe even new pants. And of course, there's that tradition that never seems to stick - resolutions.
At LUSH, we believe in the right to make mistakes, lose everything, and start all over again. We also believe in keeping it Fresh. A new year, and a fresh start never gets old with us. While change and starting over can happen at any time, there's nothing like the optimism of a new year to revaluate, set goals, and make it happen.
There's no right or wrong way to make a resolution - you don’t even need to call it a resolution. You can approach it from the perspective of wanting to take action on some part of you, or you can see it as an opportunity to look forward to events and celebrations of the coming year. So whether you want to stop biting your nails, finally take the leap on a decision you've been procrastinating on, or make a collage of aspirations - it's completely up to you.
The most important thing to consider when setting a resolution for yourself? Have a positive attitude, and set clear, attainable steps to make it happen. Don’t try to do too much at once. They say it takes 28 days to break a habit; why not break those 28 days up into 28 daily goals to get you on your way?

LUSH Careers: Holiday Helpers
It’s not uncommon for your regular nine-to-fiver to need a little extra holiday cash. For this purpose, many turn to retail in November and December to fill up their weekends and evenings spreading holiday cheer, making some extra cash, and taking advantage of some great employee discounts.
With every retailer hiring temporary staff for holidays, it's really a job-seekers market when picking where to spend those long hours on the sales floor. LUSH virtually doubles its retail and manufacturing employees between Halloween and New Years, but we don’t have to hire completely from scratch. We’ve been hearing about some amazing Temporary Holiday Staff in our shops that return year after year to spread the LUSH love at holiday time, so we called around to find out why they choose to come back to work for LUSH every Christmas season!
Michael came back for his second Holiday with LUSH at our Christiana store in Delaware. When asked him what attracted him to working for LUSH he said “I love the products, as a college student studying plants, learning the ingredients and what they are good for has been great.”
Michael isn’t the only staff member who finds working for LUSH a good supplement to their education, many students of environmental studies, cosmetology, massage and aromatherapy, find that and education in LUSH products helps bring their classroom learning to life. It's been another incredible year at LUSH; these are just some of our favorite memories from the past 12 months.
Time For An Oil Change
Oil spills affect everyone, and this May we continued our campaign to create awareness and fight the negative impacts of oil. Keystone XL and the Northern Gateway pipelines are billion dollar propositions in the US and Canada that would have pipelines crossing our expansive continent in order to export oil resources. Both the construction of the pipelines and the risk of oil spills would have catastrophic impacts on the environment, our communities, and industry. Thank you to everyone who came out to join the discussion and made your voice heard.
Emotional Brilliance
After months of secrecy, (even in our own offices), we launched Emotional Brilliance on July 21st. We chose the date because it's LUSH founder, Mark Constantine's birthday and we thought that such an important product invention deserved an equally important day. And so this is Christmas. Another year is over. We hope you had fun.
When we look back and reflect on the last 365 days and all that we've experienced - we know that we couldn't have done any of it without you. You've welcomed us into your communities as we opened new shops; you've celebrated our new product inventions (and have been as excited as we were); and you've supported us as we continued our fight against animal testing, protested pipelines, and stood up for animals in the fur industry. You've also helped us expand our reach with Charity Pot, and we were lucky to have some of you join us on a Charity Pot trip too.
This isn't just about soap either. We love all of the ways you connect with us - whether you're stopping by your local shop, chatting on the Forum, or posting pictures, sharing stories, and keeping us entertained on Facebook and Twitter.
We don't take any of this for granted. We know we aren't the only cosmetics shop around and we're very grateful that you choose to share your bath and shower with us. But most importantly, that you're truly a part of the LUSH family.
