Quick Tips: Gift Wrapping

Want to know the secrets behind our beautiful gifts? We wrap each one by hand, with love.

Unfortunately, not all of us are as a talented as our Gifts team. While it is the thought that counts, presentation does too. We put so much care into choosing the perfect gift - and then a tumble with the tape, a tussle with the paper, and a knotty situation with a bow gets us all tied up.

One trick to gift wrapping at this time of year is a generous helping of extra patience courtesy of rum and (vegan) eggnog. Another is to get professional tips and advice from our experts. We stopped by Gifts and Milena, head of our gift wrapping elves, (who's fingers are swift, and her bows mighty), went through step-by-step to show us how to get sharper corners and perfect bows. Thanks Milena!

We've tried wrapping a few since taking the course and we can report that while our wrapping is still not as good as hers, it's been vastly improved!

Wise Men Shop at LUSH

Modern day wise men! Looking for gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh this Christmas? You can find them all at LUSH. My name’s Anton and I work at our Robson Street shop in Vancouver, and things are starting to buzz with the holidays coming up so quickly. Our shop does get to be a bustling one this time of year, but don’t let the crowd scare you. Trust us, it’s a party in here. Come on in!

Guys, We’re Here to Help

When you walk into our (or any) LUSH store, you’re likely to be greeted with a big, smiley hello. Don’t be intimidated by our zeal! We’re just stoked about helping you find whatever it is that brought you in: whether you’re restocking your bathroom with your favourite products or checking things out for the first time, we’re happy to show you around and tell you about what we’ve got.

Looking for Things to Put Under the Tree?

Finding the perfect gifts for your friends and family can be a tricky exercise, so let us do the heavy lifting for you. (I mean that metaphorically, unless you do end up going for our LUSH Legends gift, which I’ve affectionately nicknamed “Big Red”. You’ll see why when you drop by.) We’ll need to know a bit about the people in your life to make good recommendations for them, so if our questions start getting personal, we’re not being creepy. Knowing that your sister plays basketball, for example, lets us tailor our suggestions to include goodies that are great on sore muscles. We ...

Vegan Gingerbread Cookies

Chase away the winter chills with this recipe for Vegan Gingerbread Cookies loaded with sugar, spice, and everything nice.

These treats are so delicious even the most discerning Santa will never know that they're dairy and egg-free. If your cravings for spicy treats are on high, after you empty the cookie jar of course, is the bath tub for some warming confections to really heat up your holidays.

For warming soaks that stop the shivers dead in their tracks use our crackling Cinders Bath Bomb or our slightly tipsy Father Christmas (he's had a few nips of brandy). If you're more the bubbly type crumble Santa's Sack or Rocket Reusable Bubble Bar in to your tub for voluptuous spicy bubbles. You nostalgic types needn’t worry either, we brought back your beloved Gingerbread House Bubble Bar to our online-only Retro shop too. With this many warming treats think of the money you'll save on your winter heating bills!

But first, let's fill that cookie jar with... Vegan Gingerbread Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, room temperature (solid)
  • 1/2 cup fancy molasses
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract<...

To Give or Not to Give: Consciousness in Giving

The holiday season has officially landed. The spirit of giving is a big part of our holiday tradition. We are blessed to live in the most economically prosperous and resource abundant continent in the world. Having been given so much already, it’s hard to believe we could possibly need more. But we do. We need upgraded computers, newer cars, more advanced toys for our kids and let’s not forget clothes, because we must have the latest fashions.

As we all know, this time of the year is fraught with mass commercialism and consumerism. I might add, I’m proud to say that LUSH doesn’t advertise anywhere outside of our storefronts, nor do we participate in the biggest retail events of the year, Black Friday or Cyber Monday. We believe in candlelit baths, but we also believe in the safety of our employees.

Since we have all have had our fair share of the guilt-ridden consumerism talk, courtesy of the media, I’m not going to harp about over-consumption. We already know that in modern western society, we are over-consumers. Yes, some of us are of the “bloodthirsty for deals” mindset, taking down retailers’ front doors and attacking the guy who picked up the last Beanie-Baby… you know who you are. Some of us are of a holistic mindset, known as “conscious consumers”, and would rather make gifts or buy handmade presents for loved ones from local artists or fair trade organizations. I’m of the latter variety… Getting trampled for a 40% off plastic toy poodle just ain’t my style. But, what this all amounts to is that all of us, with as little or as much as we pu...

Merry Music for Happy Holidays

It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas! There's nothing like the familiar sound of your favorite Christmas carol (or Hanukkah song) to get you in the mood. We've certainly been getting into the sprit of things with music ourselves. One song leads into another, and we find ourselves reminiscing together (while working, of course) about all of our favorites, year after year.

Just for fun, we asked LUSH HQ to share their top holiday picks with us and from that we created a LUSH playlist. Here are just some of the reasons why we press play, year after year:

"My favorite is the instrumental version of "Christmas Time is Here", which is one of the jazz pieces the Vince Guaraldi Trio recorded for the 1965 TV special "A Charlie Brown Christmas". It isn't exactly a carol, but to me, it's synonymous with the feeling of the season. The piano part captures the relaxed atmosphere of time well spent with good friends, and the leisurely pace of the brushed drum beat is the aural equivalent of a stroll through fresh snow." - AQ, Web Team

"I really like, Baby It's Cold Outside," by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Jordan. Ella Fitzgerald just has the most amazing voice and it just means Christmas to me when I hear it. It's also a nice slow song to dance to with your love under the mistletoe." - Ali, Marketing

"I love singing these songs really loud, when no one else can hear. They remind me of being a kid, when Christmas was really fun." - Caitlin, Web Team

"All I Want for Christmas" By Mariah Carey is my absolutely favorite Christmas song because:
