Ground turmeric is made from the dried, underground rhizomes of Curcuma longa, which belongs to the ginger plant family.

This ancient Asian spice was used as a cheaper substitute for saffron in Persia, where holy garments were colored with it.

Used to color many types food, turmeric is one of the basic curry spices. It tastes refreshing and slightly peppery.

Curcumin, responsible for turmeric’s yellow color, which is one of the most researched plant-based substances. It is antibacterial and an antioxidant.

Turmeric has been used as food, cosmetic and medicine in India for centuries.

Hindu brides still apply a paste containing turmeric as a face mask to achieve a subtle glow.
