Orris Root Powder (Iris florentina)

Orris root powder is made from the dried rhizomes of the iris plant. Orris absolute, one of the most expensive perfumery materials in the world, is also made from these roots.

Its aroma is sweet, floral and slightly woody.

Orris root was used in the 18th century as an ingredient in wig powder. It has been a popular fragrant ingredient in face powders and dusting powders ever since.

Orris absolute is sometimes used to build violet notes in perfumes. When fragrances smell slightly like powder, they may contain orris.

We use orris root powder with rose absolute in our floral Tisty Tosty Bath Bomb.
