Litsea Cubeba Oil

Litsea cubeba is extracted from the May Chang tree, native to China. It is a small evergreen tree belonging to the Lauraceae plant family. It has leaves and small flowers that smell similar to lemongrass.

Litsea cubeba oil is extracted from the small pepper-like fruits of the May Chang tree by steam distillation.

The oil is pale yellow and has a sweet, lemony aroma, similar to lemongrass.

The main constituent is citral, making up approximately 85% of the oil. Litsea is known for its antiseptic, astringent and deodorizing properties.

Litsea cubeba oil is used in perfumery, flavourings, and aromatherapy. It is referred to as the oil of tranquillity.

This oil blends well with citrus oils, rosemary and lavendin.

We use Litsea cubeba oil in our Sandstone soap for its citrus scent and antiseptic properties.
