Fresh Papaya (Carica papaya)

Fresh Papaya (Carica papaya)

Papaya (Carica papaya) is a South American evergreen with a branchless trunk. It is found in lowland tropical forests. It has seven lobed palmate leaves up to 28 inches across. The fruits of the tree approximately 18 inches long, pear-shaped and have leathery skin. The pulp is apricot coloured and houses many round black seeds in its cavity.

After being spread by the Spanish and Portuguese, it is now cultivated in all tropical regions.

Medicinally, papaya is used externally for deep wounds. It is also thought to reduce scarring.

The fruit is highly nutritious, containing vitamins A, B, and C, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and iron; it also contains malic and pyruvic acids, two potent alpha hydroxy acids, and the enzyme papain.

We prepare fresh papaya by removing its seeds and its stem, chopping it and blending it into our products.

We use fresh papaya in our Curly Wurly shampoo with fresh lemon juice to cleanse the hair and add beautiful shine.
