About Us
No Animal Testing
We never test our products and ingredients on animals, or engage with third-party suppliers to test on our behalf. LUSH also will not buy any ingredient from any supplier that tests its materials on animals for any purpose.
While some companies only preclude the use of ingredients tested on animals for use in cosmetics, the LUSH policy states that we will not do business with any supplier that is engaged in animal testing for any purpose, be it cosmetics, food, pharmaceuticals, etc.
All our suppliers must sign a statement saying that they adhere to this policy, and the statements are re-sent to them on an annual basis and reiterated on each purchase order for ingredients. In addition, the entire supply chain is audited by an independent consultant to ensure that suppliers remain in compliance.
How Can Our Products Be Safe?
We feel that not only is the testing of cosmetics on animals unnecessary and unethical, it’s scientifically unreliable. We want to know that our products are safe for humans, so our products are rigorously assessed then tested by a panel of human volunteers. It helps that we prefer natural ingredients with a long history of cosmetic use, and when we use synthetic ingredients, we choose only those with a proven safety record.
Does LUSH Campaign Against Animal Testing?
We support the development and validation of non-animal testing methods and will actively campaign for them to replace outmoded, cruel animal experiments. LUSH is also actively engaged in trying to stop the use of animals in Europe’s largest animal testing program, REACH, and to ensure that the EU Cosmetics Directive, which calls for a ban on all animal testing for finished cosmetic products and ingredients by 2009, is fully realized and implemented.
