Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is extracted from the flower of the plant. It is antimicrobial and soothing for a variety of skin conditions.

Scalp shedding like a snake?

You need to give it a good rub down with Snake Oil. Dandruff is caused by many things, including yeast-like microbes, and made worse by stress. Lavender, tea tree and peppermint essential oils kill offensive dandruff-causing microbes and soothe burning or redness. The cocoa butter base softens and moisturizes the scalp to reduce that terrible itchy feeling.

It means business.

Snake Oil treats dandruff and it smells like it means business. Melt it on to your fingertips, then massage it right into your scalp. Leave the powerful brigade of essential oils to do their work for twenty minutes or so, and then wash it off with Soak and Float shampoo. Use it regularly until you're fixed.

My partner has eczema and had a really bad flare up about 2 months ago. Since then we have tried everything and spent a lot of cash trying to calm his skin down. Eventually, we thought of Lush and tried the Dream Wash and Dream Cream. They're ok BUT the snake oil bar worked miracles. He rubs it into the affected patches 20 mins or so before a shower (using dream wash or sensitive skin formula wash). Just 2 days of using the snakeoil made a huge difference. It's still going down and he no longer looks as though he's been sprayed with acid (he had it round his eyes as well - looked like his eyes had been stitched together at one point). A couple of very raw weepy patches on his arms have 'healed' over and no longer crack open. He now applies good quality body butters morning and night to keep his skin hydrated and moisturised as well as the snake oil before his shower and he's finally starting to get comfortable in his own skin again. It smells bad but by holy cow it works.

I have been dealing with nasty flakes my whole life. I had never used Lush haircare before, but since I knew all the other products I liked never failed, that I should try their hair treatments! This is the first hair product I tried, I was excited to try this because of all the reviews. However after a few weeks of using the product, I was disappointed. It took me a few tries to get this product right. I would put either too little or too much (i recommend starting with too little). Leaving my hair still flaky and itchy or completely saturated in oil. Once I found the right amount for my scalp it started effectively working, but if I didn't wash my hair for a day or two the flakes would come back, sometimes double the amount. If you only have a few patches of flakes, I would strongly recommend this, but if you unfortunately have more than it might have to be a daily routine or what I did is leave it in over night and wash out when you wake up.

Also, I haven't been able to use this product as much, because of how strong the smell is. Even though the product is vegan, my vegan boyfriend wont even go near me. He runs away saying it reaks of pork. It really doesn't, but if you have a sweet scented nose like I do, you might have to put a clothes pin on.

Comments about LUSH Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:

I don't have horrible dandruff--mostly I get a buildup of dead skin on my scalp (which is gross, but bear with me), which can translate into flakes, but mostly just makes my scalp REALLY itchy. I have really thick hair that gets too dry if I wash every day, so I usually wash every other day or so. Even so, by the time I get to wash my hair (sometime the second day), my scalp gets pretty itchy. I went into Lush looking for something to help, without having to switch to a full-blown anti-dandruff regime (Soak and Float and the like), and the salesperson recommended me to try Snake Oil.
It's a little hard to get used to putting it on--especially with my thick hair, it takes quite a bit of rubbing to get the oils down into my scalp. But it definitely helps. During the "waiting period" (I usually give it 30 min-1 hr to soak in), my scalp seems to itch a little worse than normal, but that may be because I irritated my scalp a little trying to get the Snake Oil into it. Anyway, once I give my hair a good wash with Rehab, my scalp is no longer itchy, and the dead skin buildup is nearly gone. So far, I've been using this on an as-needed basis, because it leaves my scalp fairly itch-free for a couple weeks between uses, but I may try using it with every wash to see how that works.

This product WORKS. I have itchy flakes in the cool dry winter and this product is AMAZING! Left it on for an hour, Brushed hair from scalp to ends, then washed with soak and float. I will say, don't try and go out after this is definitely a before bed treatment, as you really need two washes to make sure you don't look silly...shower before bed and first thing in the morning my hair feels amazing and not a scratch all day!!!!!

I am a believer and a convert! Living in a really humid atmosphere, I have horrible scalp problems and found out about this product on this website and decided to try it out. It took me while to figure out how to use it. It takes bit of work to melt it down and really get it to the scalp, but what a great product. I am one of the few people who actually don't mind the smell, so that didn't bother me. It works really great if you use the Soak and Float to shampoo (shampoo 2X, the snake oil leaves a greasy residue). What an amazing company with amazing products!

I shaved my head the other day, using low-quality razors and no shaving cream. Obviously, my scalp became very raw and irritated- everything hurt, from showering to putting on shirts to laying my head down. I went into Lush and asked for something that would calm my skin, and they suggested this. From the second it touched my scalp, the irritation started going away. It felt like laying down on a cool pillow or putting aloe on a sunburn. I don't have dandruff, and I don't know about it making hair shinier, but I do know that it made my scalp feel amazing. I'm wearing a bandanna on my head right now, and it doesn't hurt a bit.

This is a wonderful product! I've been struggling with a dry scalp for months and this seems to have done the trick -I've only used it once. Can't wait to see how my scalp improves after multiple uses. The smell is not the greatest (bonfire mixed with a faint smell of meat?) but it's not the worst smell in the world. I found that once you start to melt the product in your fingers the essential oils come into play and it starts to smell more like a yummy peppermint. If the smell bothers you too much to use it at all, your scalp clearly didn't bother you that much in the first place. As always, a great and effective product from Lush!

This product was amazing! I've had scalp and dandruff problems since I was a teenager (usually in the wintertime), and I've tried all of the drug store shampoos, and apple cider treatments, but this by far worked the best and I saw immediate improvement after my first use! Hopefully after I finish with this bar, I won't have to worry about my scalp again! The only issue I really have with this product is its bar shape because it really affects how I apply it. When I massage it into my scalp, the thick texture stuck on my fingers tangle with my hair, and I noticed a LOT of hair falling out while I applied this, but perhaps it may be do to a different health issue. In conclusion, it's awesome and very convincing! I just hope I won't have to have to consistently use it to ward the dandruff off. I guess Mother Nature knows the best~

Comments about LUSH Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:

I have never come to LUSH to write a review before but I felt I HAD to come over here and gush about Snake Oil. My husband and saw it in-store a few weeks ago and since he happened to be suffering a wicked case of dandruff we decided to give it a try. That night I massaged a generous amount into his scalp and he left it for about half an hour before washing it out. Immediately we noticed a huge difference in the look of his hair (most noticably, the total absence of dandruff!) It has yet to return. I have never seen a dandruff/itchy scalp product work so well for him--or myself! This week it was my turn--I was flaking huge embarrassing chunks right at the front of my scalp so I let my husband rub it into the affected area. I get this type of dandruff once or twice a year, particularly when I am very stressed out--sometimes I can go through a whole bottle of dandruff shampoo and it doesn't completely clear up. After one application of this stuff to the crusty parts of my scalp it appears to have gone. I have NEVER found something that works this well! Keep this one forever, PLEASE, LUSH!! PS-It looks very funny for a little while while you let it do its work on your scalp. My husband and I called it "Snape hair." As soon as we washed it out, the greasy stringy look was gone. :)

Comments about LUSH Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:

I recently had my hair done in an undercut, and was shocked to see ugly, red, flaky patches of skin on my exposed scalp. I was absolutely appalled. I've always had dandruff and itching, but this was an entirely different animal, almost painful.

I bought Snake Oil yesterday and used it last night. I personally love the smell (mix of peppermint and bacon and a little bit of campfire). I have it on my head right now and I love the way that it soothes and calms my angry, angry scalp. I plan on buying a ton of it before I go back to school.

I should also mention that I was pleasantly surprised at the price. It's less expensive than a prescription shampoo, definitely smells better, and does really nice things for my hair in general.

I have horrible seborrheic dermatitis; I've had it since birth, and sulfates and other chemicals in commercially available shampoos and conditioners make it WAY worse. I got to the point recently where the only thing that wouldn't leave sores on my head was shampooing with plain baking soda! An employee at Lush threw this into my bag, and I haven't had so much as a stray itch since. Yes, it smells lousy, but it's not horrible, and it washes out. If you have really bad scalp issues, you'll ignore the smell!! I've already recommended this to others.

                  Service and delivery comments:

I would like to thank the Troy Michigan Lush for recommending this product to me. Their customer service is perfect. This product replaces actual prescription medication for me.

This product is great. As some have stated, it has an "interesting smell", but it reminds me of some stuff my grandmom used to use on our itchy scalps when we were little in the "country" so it wasn't offensive to me. I literally parted my hair and ran the bar down the parts. The heat of my scalp "melted" the bar right in. I left it on over night and washed my hair the next day. I haven't had an itch or flake since. I plan to use this atleast twice a month. I have added it to my must haves from LUSH, which include, Snowcake soap and King of Skin. I LOVE LUSH products!

Comments about LUSH Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:

I bought this becausemy hair has been falling out like crazy for the past few years. I have oily hair and don't do any styling. I don't know if this is working for the hair I'm losing but it makes my hair so soft. I'm using it with new shampoo and veganese and it's working wonders. I put it in after dinner it takes me about 20 minutes. The bar is hard to melt in your finger tips so it consumes some time. When you put it on your scalp your hair looks like you haven't washed it in a month. The smell definitely lingers. I then put my hair in a bun and sleep with it in. In the morning I wash with new then rinse it and wash again. Comes out great without a smell.

This got rid of my flakes in one use! I am absolutely shocked and happy. One star off for the smell. It was pretty rough. Like a burnt, bacon, firewood smell. Other than that, I am in love. I've used it once, about 2 weeks ago and haven't needed to use it since. I'm thinking of using it every month just as a monthly treatment to keep me in line. I have used Paul Mitchell, Biolage and numerous other products to help with my dry and flakey scalp. NOTHING compares to this! I left it on for about 15-20 minutes and shampooed my hair 5 times just to be sure. I didn't want that scent lingering! I would recommend this to anyone that is dealing with a dry scalp!

Comments about LUSH Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:

my hubby has dandruff and itching that other products just haven't handled, so i bought him some soak n' float and some snake oil. both completely stunk up my normally amazing smelling box of lush. he started using soak n' float first, and has had some success, so we finally tried the snake oil bar. it was easy to melt on my hands, but his hair is THICK, so it was hard to get it to the roots, but after a while, i got it massaged down. he said he could feel it tingle. as for the smell...well, he hates soak n' float and he hates this too. i hate this smell a little less personally. it reminds me growing up on the farm making our own smoked pork and venison sausage, plus a fist load of mint and tea tree. it's strange and not very nice, but it didn't make me gag or anything. i found it's combination of oils easy to rinse off compared to some of the massage bars i've used, and the smell went with it down the drain...or at least what didn't was covered up by the scent of tramp. so far hubby's hair is very nice, soft and flake free...but i'm not certain how often he'll use this product. next time i'll try premelting to see if that speeds things up. if nothing else, he love the scalp massage.
final words about the smell...if the smell alone makes you stop using it, you weren't THAT bothered by your scalp...it's not nice, but there are worse things in the world. at least you get mint and tea tree in with the scent, compared to just nasty like with the over the counter tar shampoos..

Comments about LUSH Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:

Like many people have stated, I found that leaving the treatment in your hair overnight is the most effective way to use the product. Yes, I know it smells bad, but you get used to it after a while. After having the keratin treatment done on my hair, my scalp reacted in a major way, and huge flakes formed all over my head (eww, I know). The only thing that helped was this product.

Comments about LUSH Snake Oil Scalp Treatment Bar:

I have a super sensitive scalp and due to the changing seasons I've been having some issues with itching/sensitivity so when I saw a recommendation for this on a beauty blog, I thought I'd try it out. Not sure why, but it smells like bacon. My dog was desperately running around the bathroom because he was confused by the smell. It feels like bacon grease too. I followed the directions completely, and then shampooed 3 times with Rehab to try and get it out. No good. My hair felt like straw that had been styled with grease. GROSS. I ended up having to use Coal Tar shampoo to get it out. And double bag it then put it in a rubbermaid container to hide the smell. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Didn't help with the itching either :-(

nastiest stuff ever! stinks for a couple days and leaves scalp greasy but i sing snake oil praises every day!

my eczema is so bad that my scalp has welds and i scratch my head till it bleeds. plus large flakes begin to show immediately after a wash. i have a prescription but that stuff is toxic so i figured i try this before i went that way. glad i did. immediate relief that lasted a week. wonderful! word to the wise, use only on scalp.

This product has the most horrid smell. It actually worked to control my itchy scalp after one use, but i cannot get the lingering smell out of my hair. It wouldnt be so bad if the smell washed out after you washed your hair, but that is not the case. I washed my hair 2 times after the initial use and the stench was still present. The smell lingered in my hair for two days and my pillow still smells like campfire. I would not recommend this product to anyone who has a sense of smell. The smell is actually so overwhelming right now i feel nauseous.

I've used the Snake Oil bar several times now, and I've concluded I don't like it. I used it as instructed, warming it in my hands to melt some onto my fingers and rubbing it through my hair and scalp, let my hair sit under a shower cap about 15 minutes, and shampooed at least twice to get it out. Each time I used it, it left my hair feeling rather greasy, with a strange, sticky residue. I feel I've given this product a fair chance, and it didn't work for me. I will stick to just the Soak & Float, which works great for me, for scalp care for now.
