Our Environmental Policy

Reducing our impact on the Earth
down arrow

We believe in protecting people, animals and the planet!

It’s a company-wide commitment that flows through our products from our hands to yours. We take this commitment to environmental stewardship seriously, and we’re conscious of how our products and business practices interact with the environment. In doing so, we are using creative and innovative solutions to make a positive impact on the planet instead.

Packaging

We love it naked

When we say “naked” we mean products that you can buy with absolutely no packaging at all. Bath bombs, bubble bars, massage bars, body butters and solid shampoo bars have all been created without the need for excess packaging. Creating products like these is at the core of our philosophy. We'd rather put our efforts into what goes inside of our products and shops instead of packaging.

Waste

Less is more

By not using packaging, we’re reducing our carbon footprint. When we can’t eliminate waste completely, it’s important for us to look to the simplest forms of packaging to do the job and use post-consumer or post-industrial recycled materials that are 100% recyclable, compostable and biodegradable whenever possible. For example, the packing peanuts we use in our gifts and shipped products are made from a natural vegetable starch, so they’re 100% biodegradable!

Sustainable Sourcing

We take great care when sourcing raw materials

We use our buying power to affect positive change in the world. We give our love (and money) to suppliers that respect the environment, as well as the animals and people living there. We work diligently with all of our suppliers to minimize our environmental impact, and in some cases, even improve it.

Transportation

Good planets are hard to come by

As an international company operating in 46 countries, we use fresh materials from all over the globe making sea, land and air transport our biggest contribution to climate change. In an effort to maximize efficiency, raw materials are brought to our factories, where we make our fresh products using a local workforce to supply local markets. We work closely with our transportation providers to source low-impact and ethically responsible fuels for moving materials and finished products around North America, and use ground shipping over air whenever possible.

Energy

Our inner chi

Energy is embedded in all that we consume, from our supply chain through our finished products. We employ all possible methods of energy optimization and efficiency retrofits within our manufacturing facilities, distribution centers and in our stores. Our electricity used in manufacturing is matched with renewable energy from wind and low-impact hydro put into the grid, through Bullfrog Power.

Water

326 million cubic miles is all we’ve got

As we share our water with the entire planet, we feel that it’s a precious resource. We monitor how we use water at our factories and are constantly working on ways to reduce our consumption of fresh water resources. Even linen service providers help us, by treating and reusing their own water onsite! Also, by selling our products directly to you with no packaging, we avoid using incredible amounts of water.

Our Green Stats

- Our pots and bottles are made from BPA-Free, 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic.

- The paper bags we use in stores are made with 100% post-consumer recycled paper and are compostable.

- Shipped items are packed in biodegradable plastic bags, recycled paper and/or biodegradable filler and eco-friendly packing tape.

- Our gifts are wrapped in 100% recycled paper and packaged with biodegradable filler.

- Our solid shampoo bars help save over 450,000 liters (118,800 gallons) of water each year.

- 100% of our electricity consumed, is replenished into the grid with renewable energy from wind and low-impact hydro, through Bullfrog Power.

And no matter how far we’ve come, we are always striving to improve.
