Flora, Fauna y Cultura de México, A. C.

For 30 years, the Program for Sea Turtle Conservation Rivera Maya - Tulum (TM) has worked to protect the local sea turtle population and is one of the most important projects of conservation of the species in Mexico. Through on-site activities such as prospecting areas, installing corrals for turtle eggs and releasing hatchlings, the program has managed to free 6,000,000 hatchlings and to protect 90,000 turtle nests on 13 different beaches. TM also runs eco-tourism trips, education campaigns and programs involving local elementary schools that raise awareness for the species and create a culture of environmental care.

How we helped

Funds from Charity Pot supported educational programming for 400 children and their parents in the Mayan communities of the municipality of Tulum, allowing them to get to know sea turtles, their environment and how to protect them.
