Wolf Awareness is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing positive attitudes towards predators in general, the wolf in particular, and an appreciation of the environment of which all of us are a part.
We work in partnership with scientists, First Nations, local communities and NGO's to increase understanding, improve tolerance levels and promote coexistence among humans and wolves.
Wolf Awareness functions as a critical link between scientists and the public, to help people achieve a greater awareness of wolf conservation issues. We aim to foster coexistence through research, outreach and informed advocacy.
How we helped
Lush's support has allowed for the increased capacity of Wolf Awareness' research and outreach ""Wolf Coexistence Programs"". They will continue to educate about the important ecological role of this apex predator and methods of coexistence.
Some Alberta municipalities are still using bounty programs under the pretense of reducing livestock depredation by wolves and coyotes, although this method is known to be an ineffective management practice. These practices not only cause unnecessary suffering; but they also can lead to negative ecological consequences and ultimately lead to more conflicts among livestock and wild canids.
Outreach work in these areas will help to minimize livestock depredation events by educating about proven and effective non-lethal husbandry techniques.
