Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) listed the Lower Duwamish River – a five-mile stretch through South Seattle – as a federal Superfund site in 2001. The Superfund List is a roster of the most contaminated sites in the country. The Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition and its partner organizations have been working since then to secure a thorough cleanup of the Lower Duwamish. Founded by local environmental, tribal, and community organizations, the coalition has been formally recognized as the “Community Advisory Group” for the Duwamish River Superfund Site.
