The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is an environmental health and justice organization supporting communities adjacent to the state’s oil refineries and chemical plants. They want to create an informed, healthy society that holds the petrochemical industry and government accountable for the true costs of pollution and hasten the transition from fossil fuels.
How we helped
Resisting the Bayou Bridge Pipeline is a specific plan to prevent the construction of a 162-mile pipeline that would pollute drinking water and destroy protective wetlands. While the pipeline is an obvious threat, it’s also an opportunity to strengthen our statewide movement. The Standing Rock Sioux in North Dakota inspired Louisiana. As that same company threatens communities along Cancer Alley, long polluted and disrespected, inhabitants are seeing the power of invoking culture and faith in their battle.
