Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary
The Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary provides a safe home for orphaned and endangered chimpanzees, and helps to protect and conserve the species in the wild by engaging with the public through environmental sensitization training programs. The sanctuary also fights to eliminate the cruel and wasteful pet and bushmeat trade that threatens chimpanzees in Sierra Leone.
How we helped
LUSH donated funds for the sanctuary to purchase a van that transports orphaned or injured chimpanzees to the center. In addition, LUSH purchased 15 cameras for the sanctuary in the Western Area Forest Reserve to monitor the well-being and security of the chimps from potential poachers.
