Witness to Innocence

Witness to Innocence is the only national organization in the United States composed of and led by exonerated death row survivors and their family members. The mission of WTI is to abolish the death penalty by empowering exonerated death row survivors and their loved ones to become leaders in the abolition movement. WTI challenges political leaders and the public to grapple with the reality of a fatally flawed criminal justice system that sends innocent people to death row. WTI seeks ways to support death row survivors and their loved ones as they confront the challenges of life after exoneration.

How we helped

The Charity Pot funding will allow Witness to Innocence to conduct a two-day communication training for 20 exonerated death row survivors to cultivate their public speaking and media relations skills. These exonerees will then be deployed to tell their stories and educate the public about the dangers of executing innocent people. This support will also allow us to work with a photographer and videographer to create high quality educational and promotional materials featuring the stories and voices of death row survivors.
